5” Blade Spyderco Police Model!!

Update from Sal on Spyderco forums..

“I'm waiting on prototypes from the maker, but we generally don't show photos of prototypes until we just a few months from delivery. At least that's the plan. Glitches are always possible and the disappointment associated with glitch is avoided.

The "purpose" of the designs is to try to get some "Real World Testing" on the concept of finger choil vs Handle forward for lock-backs. I think that mid lock-backs will be around for a while and we're always improving them. The space between the handle and the edge created by the space needed for the kick location is the area on which I'm working. I know it's a niche of a niche, but I'd like to expand my understanding there.

I tried to do it with the "Jumpers", but didn't pull it off and they were discoed due to slow sales. So I'm trying again with a mode that I think will attract more attention. especially now when I see the trend towards larger folders is current.”

I’d buy one, if the steel chosen is k390, xhp, m4, etc. Something that takes an aggressive edge and will hold it.

I’m out on vg10, or the other ultra-clean low carbide stainless options.

I think I'm leaning towards the choil model. I've been using the s35vn tenacious lately and have almost cut myself multiple times forgetting this spydie don't have one 😂

VG10 will be on both models! If one or both sell decently I’m sure Spyderco will eventually make it in CruWear or K390. That potential is a long way off though.

I don't need a 5" bladed folding knife, personally...the Police 4 is good enough for me, but K390 and Cru-Wear are always welcome additions. (As are some of the other excellent tool steels, M4, 4V, 3V...but I digress.)

How do you know you don’t “need” it …if you never try it? 😏

I don't "need" a Police 5 either but I'll "try" to buy one of both variations to add to my Police collection but I'm already dreading the thought of trying to buy them in one of those insanely frustrating Spyderco "drops" that I've participated in before. 🙄🤷🏻‍♂️

Oh I like that handle forward design. I bough the VG-10 and K390 Leafjumper just because I liked the feel in hand so much. Yet another one I don't carry often enough. So many first world problems.
