586 Mini-Barrage M390

This is on my incredibly short list, along with a Contego. Just sold my Rift to fund a Contego, and I'll probably sell my 585 and 556 to help fund a 586. It will match my 581 perfectly. Tough steel for edc use, and classy/dressy enough for church or sheeple-ridden locales.

Because some people (apparently you) like 3.5" blades and some people (me) prefer 3" blades. I work in an office and I save my 3.5" and larger blades for the weekend.

Too small for me. I'm sitting in my office right now after just having cut a banana with my 4" 760.

Yeah, this is a mega want me. the 581 is pure love. The 586 will be pure love for folks with a 3" knife law in their area.

I also like larger blades, I do like the full size 581 though. I thought about buying the 586, but i also like a blade to be around 4". I do like my mini Grips for some reason though.

To reiterate others' comments, some states have 3" limits. And 3" knives fit better into an office environment. Larger tactical blades work best in the shopping malls, where they can attract the attention of high school girls (or so I've been told). When I was that age we used to flex our muscles, or what passed for muscles, to accomplish that, but times have apparently changed.

You seem pretty insecure yourself there, buddy. Sounds like you are working hard to insult people who prefer larger knives so you can feel better about yourself. Not certain why that's necessary though. I personally prefer a knife with around a 3.5" - 4" blade because it works better for me and is more useful in my opinion. I work in a office but also go out on tugboats and a larger knife is just more useful for what I encounter.

I've been carrying the 581 daily for a while and was pretty excited to see the 586 announced as I thought I wanted a smaller version of said knife to save a little room in the pocket. I picked up a standard Mini Barrage in the meantime and I think it's a just a little too small and am glad I found out before dropping bigger bucks. Will have to handle one in person but I find the size of the 581 more usable and my hands are probably on the smaller side of average. I'd love a version with a 3.25 inch blade but between the two models there should be something for everyone. The 586 will be a perfect knife for some folks depending on what THEY like and that's all that really matters.

The Volli is similar to the Barrage in some respects and has a 3.25" blade. Worth taking a look at.

Oh I do so want this, perfect companion to my much adored 581. Thanks for the heads up.

Well, I see BHQ has these in stock. I have not been notified that my pre-order has been filled with the site I ordered from though. :(

Looks like I'll be ordering mine sooner than I thought! (or I'll be getting a 51 Morpho sooner than I thought...)

I presume that BHQ mentioned above is Blade HQ. They have the silver plain edge version shown as in stock as of last night when I ordered one. I wanted the silver or black plain edge version and it turns out that the vanilla 586 is the first version shipping apparently.

Got mine today (#117, 1st run). Finish excellent as usual, but blade is off-center toward left by ~0.5 mm. It's almost touching the left liner. Since it's going to be an EDC, I can live with it.

Two weeks later: i accidentally stepped on the knife in the closed position and the centering is now perfect. Action (opening and closing) is smooth as silk. No rattles and lockup is tight. I think its a keeper.

I got mine today. I really like it, I do have one issue with it however. On mine the lock rattles when the blade is deployed. Does anyone else have this issue? Has anyone removed the lock completely?

It's not the lock itself, typically the rattle comes from the stop pin. I would let the knife wear in before making any decisions. Many of mine have that slight rattle but the stop pin is designed to rotate and so floats in the frame. If it DOES drive you batty, Benchmade can fix it for you.

Thanks jkarp, in this case it is definitely the lock, I can make it rattle by touching it with my finger. It's quite loose when in the "unlock" position. When in the "locked" position there is no rattle at all because of the tension. I dislike locks anyway so I may look into removing it altogether, if possible.

Love the knife though!
