Simple. Remove the left scale and the pivot's right underneath.

Because some people (apparently you) like 3.5" blades and some people (me) prefer 3" blades. I work in an office and I save my 3.5" and larger blades for the weekend.
Thank you very much....Simple. Remove the left scale and the pivot's right underneath.
Too small for me. I'm sitting in my office right now after just having cut a banana with my 4" 760.
To reiterate others' comments, some states have 3" limits. And 3" knives fit better into an office environment. Larger tactical blades work best in the shopping malls, where they can attract the attention of high school girls (or so I've been told). When I was that age we used to flex our muscles, or what passed for muscles, to accomplish that, but times have apparently changed.
The Volli is similar to the Barrage in some respects and has a 3.25" blade. Worth taking a look at.I've been carrying the 581 daily for a while and was pretty excited to see the 586 announced as I thought I wanted a smaller version of said knife to save a little room in the pocket. I picked up a standard Mini Barrage in the meantime and I think it's a just a little too small and am glad I found out before dropping bigger bucks. Will have to handle one in person but I find the size of the 581 more usable and my hands are probably on the smaller side of average. I'd love a version with a 3.25 inch blade but between the two models there should be something for everyone. The 586 will be a perfect knife for some folks depending on what THEY like and that's all that really matters.
It's not the lock itself, typically the rattle comes from the stop pin. I would let the knife wear in before making any decisions. Many of mine have that slight rattle but the stop pin is designed to rotate and so floats in the frame. If it DOES drive you batty, Benchmade can fix it for you.
