5th pocket

I don't actually have "fifth pockets" on any of my pants these days but the guys posting about the Spyderco Dragonfly aren't wrong. I've got a few that just live in the little breast pockets of jackets and such. I sometimes put one in a flannel shirt pocket. They are good, little, and light. The way the set up the grip and choil help it to fill the hand in use.

The Wharncliffe is my favorite but at least if you want stainless, VG-10 is it. Not a bad steel but not sure if it satisfies the "good steel" itch. There have been various sprint runs and such with the regular blade shape. There is currently one regular-production version in S30V but it comes with pink scales. I thought about dyeing them but I instead used it as an excuse to try Flytanium scales. Definitely recommended, unless you need the traction from the FRN. Even with extra weight from the titanium, it is a very light knife. Aside from aesthetics, they make the knife a lot more solid and the rigid titanium back spacer makes it easier to reassemble.

I bought this knife SPECIFICALLY to carry in that pocket. All other small knives are now redundant.;)

This is a SCALE RELEASE auto by Chris Crawford. A meticulously made and super snappy auto that comes in at 3-1/8" closed and 5-1/2" opened.
It is exactly the knife for my “coin” pocket.

Very cool CC Scale Release. Ideal 5th pocket!

Pretty much any small knife of your liking will do. As already mentioned, it depends on the size of the 5th pocket. I have some Wrangler Riggs jeans that will hold knives horizontally with handles up to 4 1/4 inches long.

The Byrd Robin from Spyderco’s budget brand is one of my personal favorites. It most closely resembles the Spyderco Dragonfly. It offers a slightly bigger handle and steel liners with a lower grade blade steel and a lower price. The Robin 2 not pictured here has a full flat ground blade.

My 5th pocket carry nearly every day is the Victorinox Rambler. I love this tool set, use the scissors, screw drivers and toothpick quite often. Also if I have a big scary tactical folder, I will pull this out to make small cuts in public to avoid creating a panic among any non-knife types that may be around.

Victorinox makes a number of outstanding small folders. I have never heard anyone criticize their steel. Some folks swear by their little SAK.

Chris Reeve makes a few smaller folders. A Small Sebenza might be made to work.

There are companies that make casual looking "tactical" pants tailored like jeans with larger pockets.

I echo the sentiment of a few others; Spyderco Dragonfly in whatever flavour of steel suits you.

The Rambler is my favorite for the perfect number of useful tools without getting too bulky. I keep one on my keychain.

In my watch pocket, a little pearl handled knife by W.H. Morley & Sons (1913-1927) for when I'm feeling fancy. ;)
