#6375 Case Large Stockman

The only large stockmans I have are the first pocketknife I bought back in 1977, a Schrade, and an older Buck 301 I have somewhere. This thread has inspired me to buy another, a new Buck 301, which is on its way. Sorry, not a Case, but I wanted a large stainless stockman, and IMO, Buck's 420HC is pretty darn good. I plan to EDC this one alongside my other EDC stuff. :) Still, I credit this thread with putting the large stockman back on my mind. I don't spend much money on knives at all anymore, and very rarely now, too. The great thing about these types of working knives, whether Case or Buck, is that you can get a great product for little money.

This thread got me very interested in the Case 6375 large stockman, so I went looking for one of my own. I bid on a couple of them on eBay. One was a 1977 redbone model, and the other was a 1965-1969 model in stag (both with CV blades). Both were unused and unsharpened since the factory. I figured I would win one of them. As it turned out, I won both. I really wanted one made before the 1980's, when they pinned on the shields and the knives seemed just a bit better than the ones after the 1970's ended.

I decided to make the redbone one a safe queen, but I honed the edge on the stag one with my Sharpmaker, and decided to put it in my rotation. Here she is in all her glory.

I have to say I was amazed at how well this took an edge. The spey blade in particular easily pops hair off my arm.

This knife has super strong springs and locks up like a bear trap. The sheepsfoot blade in particular has super strong walk and talk.

As others have said here, this is a big knife. It fills the hand nicely, and when the clip blade is open I am sure it might look a bit intimidating to the uninitiated. Overall I have to say it is truly a classic.

Congrats DMA! Very nice score - two of them! Glad you're happy with the large Stockman. It's a big knife but it's one of my all-time favorites and sees ALOT of pocket time, easily the majority of time nowadays.

I have to say that after carrying this big boy for a couple of days that I really like it. It is very hand filling when used and the robust and sturdy construction just feels great. I think I will carry this one a while.

Just this morning I saw your picture of your beautiful new barlow and your peanut you were carrying and thought to myself that it had been a while since we saw the stockman. It looks better each time you post a picture.

It's fun to watch a knife age over time. Other's here have documented their knife as it ages and I've really enjoyed following those threads. Once a month or so I snap a pic and even I then look at prior pics and realize "Wow it IS changing and taking on character marks and scars". :)

Just a current pic as it approaches 4 months now. Still a huge favorite in my EDC line-up.

Beautiful pic and beautiful knife! It's great to see a well-loved and used knife.

I ordered a Case large stockman in orange delrin and SS, but of the same shape essentially.

Orange delrin? Is that a new one? I know i love their yellow delrin.

Here is a Rough Rider large stockman, a near duplicate of the Case 75 pattern. Of course, this one has the fancy bolsters.
The brown sawcut bone is a favorite of mine, as they look and feel great. Plus, this one came with beautifully even grinds.

I think I like seeing it so much partly because you first held yours 9 days before my 23 trapper slid into my pocket for the first time. It's fun for me to watch yours age and see what might have been and compare and contrast how yours is aging vs. mine.

That stockman is aging nicely, looking better and better.
Lots of beautiful stockmen in this thread
I've had in hand one of those 75 without shield, with sawcut amber bone, loved the look on that one, so i ordered an 18 stockman with the same covers, just because it's a bit more friendly to my pocket than the big 75, one of which i had in yellow delrin, but it was too much for my needs.
Capable, strong, but not pocket size friendly, at least for me.
I might pick up one of those 75 anyway at some point, with the sawcut amber bone, just to have it around, maybe put it in my backpack..

Hey, It's not a Case (although just as good IMO), but my Frontier 4" Stockman is definitely one that inspires confidence! It has that solid feel that tells me it's up to any task.
One of my favorite patterns!

Crap, I just realized this is about the Case LARGE Stockman. Makes my 4" look kinda whimpy. Ooh, now I gotta find me one of those!
