711 vs bk9

Knivesplus.com I can get a bk9 for 72 and a bk2 for 60 which equals 132 dollars. A 711 is 119+14(for shipping)+30 for a sheath which equals 163 I could get a bk 2,9,and 14 dor that

But have either of you taken into account the variable weight-carrying capacities of European and African Swallows? We can never have a true answer until we determine the mean number of coconuts that can be carried by both the African, and European Swallows.

I like posting too. And I've been in the...sauce.

That's without shipping or tax. Your $132 would be more like $150 maybe. And your knives would still be inferior no matter how many of them you have.

Apples an oranges really. First off in respect to size, isn't the 711 a 7 inch Blade? That would make the comparison to the bk7. As for quality the bk line is great quality for the market its in, that being said its not in the busse kin market. I love my beckers and I've loved a few busse kin, but its apples and oranges. The science will tell us one thing, the fans another, and the companies another. so you really can only settle it for yourself, pick which one you like better based on your criteria like looks, profile, ergos, handle material, steel, etc. Buy a sheath for whichever that is, that you like. Be happy. Both will kick ass and be tough as nails.
This says it all, let's play nice

Those Scrapyards are attractive knives.
I sure won't want MORE than the BK2's 5" of 1/4" steel, tho. Too heavy.
The 9 will get you the reach for chopping if that's what you want, without the unnecessary extra steel (though the grind isn't as high, so maybe the difference isn't so great?)

One of those 711's in 3/16" would be more appealing, and a better comparison to the bk7.

No one said anything bad about SYKCO.....Becker knives are a GREAT value sure you can pay lots more for a better knife that isnt the point............Go back to general and recommend some more Cold Steel knives to people

Well why don't you just piss in our cornflakes, huh? I guess I should take my BK2 and throw it away now...useless piece of junk it is.
First of all...to the OP.
The Becker handle is better in every way..unless you have really small hands (like in the BK commercials)...JMHO.
While the steel used in the SY is a fantastic steel, with a great heat treat...I have seen BECKERS made by KABAR hold up damn well to any and all normal use...even some over the top abuse.
AND...that grand canyon choil or ricasso is just way to much on all the SY knives IMO. I like having leverage to carve with...that basically cuts your power on push cuts in half.
Now, I didn't say that BECKER was 10X's better than SY, but you did...and thats just nuts.

LOl don't get mad at Maddogg774, fanboys are fanboys, .. maybe he can explain the exclusive Ultra Convex Saber Bevel grind to us all

I'll say this, I still don't know exactly what a #711 is, but I have a BK9. It's a fantastic tool for the price. I'm not a Becker fan boy, though I do prefer BK&T. Is there a place or way you can handle both? I think we need to get away from the back and forth or this thread will join the recent string of locked threads.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but I do have knives from both companies with the same handles and finger choils and I have to say the handles are about the same size and I think the Scrap Yard handles are a bit more comfortable and better at absorbing shock. I wouldn't call the Scrap Yard finger choils "Grand Canyons" since they're also about the same size as the Beckers, I guess they just look bigger since they're square. No doubt the Becker Micarta handles are more durable, but with Scrap Yard's no questions asked warranty I don't really worry about it. Now, with that said I love the knives that I have from both companies. These are just my opinions, which are completely worthless.

Roger that, Covy Leader..Raven here...
I will stand down Murph..but he drew first blood..:)

If the 711 were 3/16'' like the 511 I probably would've ordered one. 1/4'' thick 7'' convex saber grind is way too much blade for my taste.
http://www.scrapyardknives.com/knives.htm

Scrapyard 711
Overall Length: 12.5"
Blade Length: 7 3/8"
Thickness: Approx: 1/4"
Steel: SR-101 / 58-60 Rc
Handle: Resiprene C
Blade Width: Approx. 1.65"
Grind: Ultra Convex Saber Grind
Finish: Black
Shipping and Handling $14.95

BK9
Stamp: Ka-Bar Becker
Edge angle: 20 degrees
Blade: 1095 Cro-Van steel
Shape: Clip point
Grind: Flat
Handle material: Grivory
Blade length: 9 inches
Overall length: 14-3/4 inches
Weight: 1.05 pounds

So really they're quite different. Decide if you want a 7'' or 9'' blade. The 711 doesn't come with a sheath so you'll probably need to factor in at least $30 for kydex. SR-101 is better steel than 1095cv as far as edge retention.

Personally I'd compare the BK7 and 711, not the BK9.

BK7
Stamp: Ka-Bar Becker
Edge angle: 20 degrees
Blade: 1095 Cro-Van steel
Grind: Flat
Handle material: Grivory
Blade length: 7 inches
Overall length: 12-3/4 inches
Weight: 0.85 pounds

Of the two I'd probably go for the BK7 because of the flat grind, cheaper cost, and it comes with a no frills sheath, versus the 711 coming with a cardboard sleeve on the blade. The BK7 sells for around $70 it seems, and the 711 is on sale for $120 + $15 shipping, which will be jumping up to $140 very soon.

Decisions decisions.
