#78 American Jack

And BTW, Travman, thanks for posting so many photos. You really do have a great knife collection, and I enjoy seeing them. I wish someone would post step by step instructions on how to post a photo from an IPhone gallery. I have a couple dozen I would like to show off.

Just noticed the 78 in Elderberry has the "Tidioute" on the shield while the smooth white bone does not. Wonder why? I do prefer the branding on the shield.

I have also noticed the pen blade partially blocks the nail nick for the spear blade on mine. The photos made it seem like it did not but the actual knife does.

Did an Early Reserve on the first day it was available so bought this without pictures (BTW, I'm not criticizing the Early Reserve system. I applaud it and wish more dealers would use some form of it). Looking at the closed knife photos of the two-blade versions on the CK website you can clearly see the largish pen blocking the nail nick of the main.

I'm also waiting on a Northfield jigged bone. Looking forward to seeing if the long pull eliminates this issue.

If you have a paid membership, you can upload right from the phone gallery.

Thanks for the compliment. This is the place to see some nice knives.

Just use the "Upload a File" button right next to the "Post Reply" button. (Edit: you do need to have a Gold Membership to see the “Upload a File” button. Otherwise you need to upload pictures to one of the free file sharing sites.)

In the photographs, yes it is noticeable. I should have stated I think it is less noticeable in the pre-production drawings from GEC used for Early Reserve sales. Just due to being a line drawing, a little harder to notice although I can now knowing to look for it. I am not criticizing the ER system either. Also not unhappy with the knife, just a little harder to open. I like having the large pen blade but agree an ambi nail nick would be useful.

It does look like it would be an issue. But in hand I find it useful as a bit of a fulcrum. But, it is easily remedied by dropping the pen if it is a personal issue. One of those things I wish was different - but not a deal killer.

Have to agree here. I received mine from CK and while it looks as though it would impact opening the main blade, it really doesn’t (for me anyway). It does look wrong and I’m surprised it wasn’t corrected at some point during the development, but to me it’s an aesthetic issue only.

Overall it appears as though the pull and snap on this new run are not quite as strong as on the initial run, correct?

I have not handled one from the prior run, but this one is a solid 6-7 in my opinion, with a good solid “snap” on closing. Very satisfying and no issues. Feels just about right to me.

Oh, wow. Now I'm even more excited about the single blade version. :) I have one on the way and a couple on pre-order but was wondering about the sprint tension. I don't like a really heavy pull, but gotta say 5.5-6 is ideal for me. Great size and shape, single spear blade, and the smooth bone options tick a lot of boxes for me. Thank you for that video.
