#81 Bull Moose Thread

Wow, great work! Looks very professional.
I agree that a clip point main and sheepfoot (or wharncliffe) secondary is a great blade combination, but I still appreciate the moose pattern (even if I don't end up picking one up). I hope they do another run on the #82 frame either as another stockman or with a clip main and wharncliffe secondary (same blade shapes as on the #82 Dixie Stock Knife, those were perfect).

Thank you! It was fun

It was delivered today. Heres a few pics. My first impression is that someone took my mod81 and dressed it up in a tux for a special occasion. The pulls are ever so slightly snappier on the northfield. The ebony is very dark. Looks great. Everything else on it is jst about perfect except that it has a spear point. I will be modding this one. The final pic is of my planned modification.

Here is the finished product. The swedge was not easy to do. I think it turned out pretty nice though. I may do the vinegar patina. Not sure though.

Nice work again! I agree, the swedges are hard. It's kinda hidden in my photographs, but they aren't perfect. If they weren't there initially it'd be easier to put them on. Blending grinds is just tedious and trepidatious.

Stag finally arrived today!

Wow, you picked a good one! That's beautiful.

I agree. I found that if I wobbled the blade, varying the angle that the belt was grinding as I went, it was easier and gave a more smooth transition

View attachment 801660 View attachment 801661 View attachment 801662 Wasn't sure I would really like this one but I'm warming up to it. That mod looks very attractive and I will probably have to go that route too!!!
Just received mine yesterday. The fit and finish on these stags are very good! Although, this pattern is not my scene. I am glad I only purchased this variant only. Too long for my use. I prefer patterns that are a little shorter in length but blades that are more stout(wider).

I picked one of these up in Osage. This is my first Osage and I'm really digging the covers. They feel satin, like the wood equivalent of the satin bolsters.

This is the chunkiest GEC I've handled so far (not counting the 71...that's just a different knife). I see why you guys are doing the spear mod though. The full length of the closed blade doesn't feel so ergo'y. But it's hard to grind off a shiny new blade...just...yet!

^Nice job on the mods! That swedge work looks pretty sweet.

I give up. I keep trying to choose a stag and I can't pull the trigger. Too many available. Obsessively comparing pics, and even taking notes.

Got any others yet? My ebony is just as smooth as my ebony 35. Some of the Appaloosa is really pretty, too. I wasn't in love with the stag 35 I got. It is overwhelming though, so many to keep track.

Yeah I have an osage and an appaloosa. I think I will just stay put on those. Really wanted a stag, but i figure if nothing is jumping out at me as "the one," I can live without.

Mind if I borrow your notes? Or is that cheating?
I, too, have been thinking about going stag on these.

This thread had slid down a little, but I just got mine. I had admired these, especially Riz!'s micarta with the modified spear blade. The big spear didn't appeal to me on this pattern, but I wasn't sure about hacking up a perfectly good knife.

Looks good, and the spear doesn't bother me in-hand:

The spear isn't in the way at all. Actually, I seem to be having a hard time finding that extra blade...

Looks as if this moose isn't whole...more of a half-moose. Turns out this knife made a pit-stop on its way to me with Jordan Fowler, aka JFowl31. He performed this modification for me, and I couldn't be happier. The result is a lot blade in a relatively small, slim package.

Archie Archie Saw this mod on Instagram yesterday. I like it. That'll be a great user with the micarta.

Dredging this up a little but thought this would be the best place to show off some new patina, finally. That polish job stayed shiny for a long time under EDC conditions, including chopping up apples weekly for lunches.

Salsa chicken for the family.
