Todays a hard day around here but I feel I have to bring this thread back to the top today and thank all the people who helped to make this knife a reality, for Mary and Bobby.

Unfortunately Mary Brew-Sturdy has since passed away the summer of 2005 leaving her son with his natural father.

Never forget September 11 2001, Jim you'll always be missed, and Mar, at least your with Jim, we'll look after Bobby.

Thanks again to all who gave of their time, money, and support.

In all of the sadness of events preceeding and following threads like this convict me that the world isn't nevertheless so bad.
Condolences to you, T. Erdelyi and to all survivors (and to all survivors of victims of 11th September).

With September 11th so near and finding some old photos of Jim and his family I thought I'd bring this thread back around and thank everyone involved in the project once again.

Everytime I'm in The City, or see an old skyline with the Twin Towers in the foreground I get sad and then I get mad, Never Forget 9/11/01.

BTW Mods this thread started in The General Knife section, if you feel the need to move it to Community please feel free.

I'm not lookin' for money, this has already been done, the great people of BFC donated their time and money to make the knife a reality.

The reason I bring it up is these were great people who were heros and deserve to be in our thoughts, always.

Hi T. Erdelyi,Your story has touched me on many levels.Unfortunately I'm broker than broke & have nothing materialistic to contribute. We lost a lot of heroes that day.I hope that someday James' family can find peace & closure with his demise & know that he did not die in vain. After all there are people living now, because he was there.

Warmest Regards,
John

Unlocked and BTT just for today, thanks again everyone.

Have a drink or say a prayer for our lost friends and comrades, heck do both.

Jim we still miss you and Mary :( at least your finally together.

I'll never forget, know way! We have a memorial in our building that I pass by everyday that I'm on our base. God comfort those still in morning this day, amen!!

after what happened i still cant figure why/how bin laden is till walking and talkiing, imho a huge failure of this administration, shame on them!!

Never forget, always remember...

I just wanted to thank the people who contributed to this project, either in money, time, material and even good wishes, thank you all, you all know who you are and as people read is original thread they'll know who you are too.

A short update since the OP, Mary died couple of years after they found Jim's body, Bobby since then has been living with with his birth father, I hadn't seen Bobby since the death of his mother, a couple of weeks ago his Dad brought him to a weekend party his uncle, (my best friend since 2nd grade) was having.

He'd grown from a quiet little boy into a strong, confident young man of 16, he looks good, time with his Dad has been good for him.

When he saw me he came over and gripped my hand with a firm handshake told me how happy he was to see me again and to say thank you for the knife and plaque.

With a lame excuse about my beer glass bein' empty I covered the tears forming in my eyes by turning to the keg, (my glass was really empty, really)

By the time my glass was filled and I returned, I was fine.

He said the knife and plaque hang over his desk in his room at home as a constant reminder of that day and how evil people can be but also as a reminder better, still of how kind even strangers can be.

Thank you everyone, I send prayers and smoke to all who were affected by that tragic day.

To my mind, a great response to an otherwise horrible situation. Good job TE, and all you guys who contributed.

May God bless all who go in harms way to keep us safe.

thx - cpr

Jim's been gone 10 years now, we all missed him at Labor Day, (he was always a lot of fun when he could relax, RIP Jim we'll all meet again brother.

BBTTT just as a reminder, ALWAYS REMEMBER, NEVER FORGET and thanks to all who helped with this knife you all know who you are.

I saw Bobby on Labor Day he's lookin' at colleges already, he keeps the knife over his desk with a picture of Jim in Full Dress.

Thanks.

Well here it is, 11 years later, Jim's been gone longer than I knew him, his wife has since passed away from depression and grief and Bobby has grown into a young man. I don't see Bobby much anymore as he had since moved in with his biological dad but I still see the daily reminders of Jim and that day.

I'm sure the knife that the great people of this community had put together in memory of Jim and that day, still holds a special place in Bobby's heart.

Thanks again to all you who donated time, materials and kind words on this project from 11 years ago, it still means a lot to me and all the kind people here have helped to deal with the tragedy that happened on that day that still is etched in my mind, Thank yoa all.

This is the first time I've seen this thread on here. I just read thru everything and it almost brought tears to my eyes.

It is really great what you organized and all those that had contributed.

Its good to hear that Bobby is doing well and maturing into a young man. I wish all the best for him.

Bobby the little boy in the pic is now grown and had joined the Marines, always remember never forget.

And to the folks who helped me out this all together, thanks and take solace in the fact that Bobby carries that knife on his vest as part of his regular gear every day.
