940-1501 Knifeworks Exclusive

The knife is too expensive in my eyes even after the price drop.I will pass on this one because of the steep price and save my dough for a custom.

Oh man, still with the MAP crybabying? Even with Spyderco charging $300-400 for Taiwanese knives? Even after KAI went to MAP and started selling their "LE"s direct only and at full retail? Even after Chinese, no-CS Kizer and Reate went from sub-$100 knives to $400+ in less than a year??

I feel like I am taking crazy pills. Benchmade is incredibly consistent and they are the only one of the aforementioned companies who is not putting more money in their pockets with the price changes. Made in USA with an amazing warranty. Get over it, please.

I still remember the price-fixing that was prevalent in the 1970's. Laws got passed that was supposed to prevent that but, of course, there are legal ways around laws. MAP brings back those unpleasant memories of 200% markups and zero competition based on price. I agree Benchmade makes some outstanding products and I just keep on buying those products despite my distaste for this particular business practice. Not being a crybaby....just stating an opinion.

Relative to much of the competition , map Benchmades are overpriced.

You get what you pay for.

Benchmade has a lifetime warranty with free parts and labor and Sharpening.

Supports local economy with living wage jobs.

I've even seen them repair discontinued Benchmade 42s with custom made parts.

$199.95 right now! I just grabbed mine!
As soon as I saw your post I ordered one. I've been wanting a 940 for a while now but I just couldn't past the aluminum scales. I didn't want to pay more than I did for my 710 Knifeworks with black and blue g-10. The price drop just sealed the deal.

I hear ya bro! I had a s30v 940 many many years ago but I got discouraged with it after breaking 2 omega springs. I left benchmade in favor of Spyderco, Strider, CRK and Cold Steel. After missing the mechanics of the 940 and it being the pinnacle Benchmade model IMO, I went on a search for a 940. The cheapest I could find from authorized dealers was around $174-$179 so for about $20 more it was a no-brainer to try this model out!

The 940-1501 is now $200, can't wait to try it out. I love the 940 design, just hated the green aluminum. Also want to get the 940-1.

My minty fresh 940-1501 arrived this morning, and it was probably the only thing that could have persuaded me to leave the warmth of my house. After braving the arctic weather, and plopped down in my chair and opened up the box. I was pleasantly surprised at the fit and finish, it is noticeably better than any 940 that I've handled. The blade is centered, there is absolutely no blade play, it opens with authority and the axis lock settles far on the blade shelf securely. It feels slightly thicker in the hand than the regular 940, and I love how the smooth G10 feels (especially now in the later part of Fall). I also noticed on mine that the very tip is slightly pointier than my previous 940's. Everything is fit and flush, there are no gaps between the spacers or in the pivot washers. I'm very happy with my purchase, I feel it was worth the price that Knifeworks has it at, and Roger is a stand up guy. Now I just need to get me a 940-1..... ( I would take some pictures but my phone camera is pretty sad, there are much better images of this beauty out there!).

How did the scales turn out for you? Is the blue pretty vibrant, or more subdued? I want to order one eventually, but I'd want a super vibrant blue on mine, as pictured on the KW site, not a darker, less noticeable blue, but it's a crap shoot as to what I'd end up with. Just curious, and thanks!
