There's 2 ways to remedy this;

1.
Lock down shoptalk to paying members only. You want info-you pay. You want to ask questions -you pay. You want to post (anything) you pay.
that'll drive off alot of new members, and old, but it will eliminate crys of unfairness.

2.
Blow shoptalk open , make it free like it was before with the preface that if you're blatantly advertising and not a paying member you'll be banned,Period. Maybe the only way to eliminate this is to deny non paying members visible contact info, I don't know.

shoptalk is heading down a weedy garden path currently as people have seen by comments in other forums,

Sorry but you are SO FAR off the mark it's pitiful - yes Tai and are friends and collaborators, but I have a brain of my own and DID not premeditate or discuss this with ANYONE before posting (also you might use spell check). As far as avarice - you again are way off the mark - I DO NOT need this forum or any other to keep my business going (currently 9 months back ordered and NONE of the orders are via BF or any other forum for that matter ) - so get a life and take your attitude and put it where the sun don't shine. As for offering info for free - Kevin is just one among many - go look up my posts I have given LOTS of free info, but again this is NOT about me or Kevin or anyone else in particular, but about a RULE that based on current observation gets broken by some with allowance, but for others no way.......

Again this had NOTHING TO DO with Kevin, but rather that certain folks apparently get a pass on the rules and yes despite "opinion", based on the rules as recently posted, Kevin DID break them despite the spin...and as far as Kevin not selling to Joe public, bull puckey, he like many others who post here are professionals who sell their goods.....don't believe me? GOOGLE him and see what he has offered for sale.

And for those who want to keep up with Kevin - it's simple go to Knife Dogs- he's got his own forum there - makes you wonder eh? I also wonder where the mod(s) are........

as for the rest - my last word - and yep a sad day and you're right , but it's the the BF circle jerk/circle the wagons attitude has begun for the chosen few............

Makes you wonder what ??

You should have reported this to a mod, insted of bitching in the forum and creating the current shitstorm.

This is like going to a knife fight without any knives... LOL

I don't see any winning, so,... I'm out.

Makes me wonder why Kevin PAID to have his own forum over on Knifedogs but didn't pony up here........and again this was not about Kevin, me, Tai or ANYONE else but rather why some seem to get a pass re: the rules and others don't. As for reporting to the mods - I notice NONE have shown up here and now, so apparently I would have been spinning my wheels.....

No need to worry - I'm out of here PERMANENTLY - so have fun..........

I'm glad I clicked on this thread while the photo was still up.... An amazing piece for sure!!!! Kevin is an extremely talented maker and teacher. :)

Personally I like to see the work of men like Kevin and Chuck both.... posted right here in the good 'ol shop-talk hangout.

The rest of the ugliness in this thread is very dissappointing. :( :thumbdn:

Oh Man! This is ridiculous, and sad, and so unneccessary. We've apparently lost two highly skilled and respected makers. This could have been avoided.

OK, You want some action from the mods....you got it.

THREAD LOCKED

From me personally,
I am a bit ashamed at the conduct here when things like this come up.
The last bitch session from those who felt offended by the rule was silly,...this shows how ridiculous they can be.
I thought we had pretty well worked this out after the last dust -up, but it seems some folks will just sit around an wait for an opportunity to create more discontent. They regularly say, "Some good members here have left because...." well, look in the mirror.....you are the type of reason they leave!
Posting a short note that the photo in this thread was against the rule would have taken one post and maybe ten words....but NOOOOO...these fools have to post back and forth like school kids taunting someone, with their buddies egging them on.

A look at the posts on this thread shows that the people with registered and basic membership are doing all the bitching and those with the proper level to post photos of knives they sell have no problem with it. Sort of sounds like sour grapes. I offered to pay the membership for one of these folks, but he said it was the principal, not the money. One of the others sells $1000 knives and doesn't take orders anymore, because he sells everything he takes to a show as soon as he sets it out. He says that doesn't maker him a knifemaker level? Another says he gives us so much in free info and tutorials that we should pay him.

I am sure Dixie, tai, Wild Rose and some of the others feel that they are great assets here,...and they are..... but at times liken this, I doubt we really need their $50 as much as we could use the silence if they went elsewhere. I am sorry if my words here pi$$ someone off, but I am fed up with some folks here. If they want to go elsewhere, I have no problem with that.

I let this sit on the screen for an hour to make sure I wanted to post it....I still do.

Unbelievable.....
As you know BFc has always been a work in progess. It adapts to the growth and needs of it's membership. With the growth over the last few years, it has been necessary to create some new rules and procedures and enforce them more strictly.
We had been toying with the idea of keeping the Shop talk area having a bit more leeway in the membership area, but honestly this bickering over clearly posted rules and those who feel they are above them makes me believe that we should just apply the rules sitewide and strictly to be fair to our paid membership.

I myself find it hard to believe that notable makers with enough money to have a website, attend blade show and other such advertisement do not have a measly $60 to spend on a membership to the largest knife forum on the internet. This forum is a business just like your own, do you give your knives away for free because a buyer has ego enough to tell you that because of his notoriety he should not have to pay for knives? I bet you don't.

I think Spark has been more than gracious and more than lenient for many years now.

We appreciate all our members, from the unknown to the notable. We appreciate their membership as well as their contributions to the forum. However.... Your participation/contributions do not absolve you of following the clearly posted rules that EVERYONE must follow.

I think everyone needs to re-read this post from Spark:
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...tos-Who-can-and-can-t?p=10869652#post10869652

With that said, Don't think that if you are in violation of the posted rules that you will not be asked to upgrade.
The choice is ultimately yours, of course, according to how much value you place on the information and your participation here.
It seems to me that most knifemakers would want to be proud of their contributions here and would show their support to the site in the form of a paid membership where they can interact freely.
