A Bushcrafter for ME!!! :D

WOW!! I think that is my favorite scandi knife ever. That is simply amazing.

Side note- what type of camera did you take the pics with?

The first bushcraft knife I made of my design has been ground, tested, re-ground, and basically is not that appealing any more :D I am mainly using it for a reference for my handle shape these days.

Every other one I have made since then has gone to another home.

I knew I wanted to make me another, but I was uninspired by a handle material choice. Micarta is great, and there are some cool wood choices out there. However, since the knife was Scandinavian inspired, I was looking for something a bit more "traditional."

My first thought was birch. But is seems rather boring. Then I thought CURLY BIRCH! Yes, that was going to be it.

Problem was, I was having a HARD time getting some in the US. So, finally I gave up and ordered some from Finland.

I just finished up the knife last night, and I am EXTREMELY pleased with it.

Here it is:

Ahemmm, let me take a moment to pick my jaw from the floor wow what a knife, can you share with us how long it took to make this beautiful knife how did you heat treat it?

Brian,
You have no idea what frustration I'm feeling knowing there is a knife out there like that and it isn't mine:grumpy: Awesome work:thumbup:, you are truly skilled. If you ever work up a forum knife, I'm on the list.

Brian,

Everyone has said how awesome it is - I agree. Can I pick nits and see your response?

I wonder if black or Brown liners would have looked better. Thoughts?

Do you think the handle bevels (right near the coil) are to shallow? It looks as if they cut into the portion where your hand would rest. Are they comfy?

That is all I have - I looked at if for a while and wanted to give you some feedback that wasn't all Kudo's - hoping to help perfect your craft - but that is all I have.

I would buy one in a minute. In fact - PM me if you would take an order for one like this - not necessarily the handle material (expense) but the rest.

Good work.

That is simply the best example of a Scandi bushcraft knife I have ever seen. It's absolutely perfect in both form and function. If I had that knife, my others would end up in a drawer.

Make more and sell them!:)

No problem at all on the feedback.

In fact, that is how the bevels got there in the first place! Feedback from the excellent folks here.

That is quite funny. I thought about it for 3 days whether to do black or white. I think black would look awesome too. I had not thought about brown.

There is always next time, right? Now that I think about it, my next curly birch one will be done with black because I have them here.

Others that I have done were probably ground a touch closer to blade. You are correct. I wasn't too concerned about it on this one (mine) because I can always re-grind a touch, and re-finish.

With that said, it feels pretty good to me. I tend to put my thumb a touch farther forward, in which I think this one will work out well. However, I have only done mild stuff with this so far. I will do more testing in the next couple days, and see if I need to do anything with mine.

I really, seriously appreciate the feedback. Stuff like this helps me think of stuff I had not thought of. It is the only way to get better.

That is beautiful Brian! Great traditional choice of handle scales and TOP NOTCH craftsmanship! Enjoy!

Brian,

That is exactly how I wanted my comments taken. One last nit pick - why not grind the blade flat and then run up the tip like a J rather than a slight U in your grind.

If you look at a Muskratman knife or yours - vs. a Kosters - Kosters grinds his straight and then rises with the tip. You and Muskratman grind in a slight smiley face - why?

I hope that makes sense - if not - I will post a diagram.

Also Let me know when you make that one in black liners and get me a price. ;) I am dead serious.
