I got a RAM not to long ago and I didn't feel as close to it as did most of my other knives, so I decided I would do some bonding with it :D. I took it apart, cleaned it, wiped off the factory lube and replaced it with some tuff-glide, sharpened it, and changed the clip to tip down. I don't really like shiny/silver looking clips so I decided I would try and darken it.

(Heres where the cheap easy mod is).
I used some needle nose pliers, a bic lighter, and a rag.
I held the clip with the pliers while I heated the side that I wanted to darken, once I held it over the lighter for a while I would wipe it off with the rag because sut or something forms on the clip and then repeat heating it with a lighter. Every time the clip became a little darker and darker. After a while I finally got it to where I am quite pleased with it. I will try and post pics of it later tonight.

(I know some people may find this method to be ignorant, but I am quite pleased with the look of my clip now :D.)

The flash makes it look a little lighter than it is.

Looks great! I am curious about how this effects the temper of the clip.
May have to bite the bullet and try this as well though.

I was a little worried at first about that, but I decided to go ahead and try it. The back side of the clip is still nice and shiny so I didn't affect the whole clip just the top. I was also worried about how it would feel and if it would stay on or scratch away easily. It feels nice and smooth just like I hadn't done anything to the clip and I have been rubbing the clip all day and color/tint isn't changing a bit.

nice pics HW. whats wrong with the knife with the hole in it? :D ;)

:D besides the fact that the clip looks like heck, there is some scratching on the G10, and lack of a back spacer which I don't mind I couldn't find nothing. Yep that para sure is one pretty safe queen ;).

(I also did that little lighter trick to the paras clip just to hide the scratches)

Also the thumb stud was missing when I got it .

You'd have get it pretty hot to affect the hardness of the clip. A small torch has potential to do damage, but I doubt a regular bic is capable of getting too hot (it would probably melt itself and explode first).

Well I will probably regret to admiting to this later, but for the past week almost everytime I pull out the para I find my pointer finger feeling for a flipper. And as far as finding a doctor I will be going to Gatlinburg TN this coming weekend to celebrate my birthday, and I will probably be stopping at Smokey Mountain Knife Works to get prescription refilled ;).

That's pretty interesting PG, I may have to do a little bit of research on it and then I may go ahead and strip the clip on my para and use some of that stuff on it.

It only works on non-stainless. ;)

Didn't think of that. Are the clips stainless?

I've got one that I can try it on. I'll report back with results when I do.
