Right. So I tried this trick, although with a propane torch. Got it essentially red-hot and let it cool, twice.

Doesn't look as dark. Is there soot coloring the ones done by lighters?

Riff, you got a very nice even color, even if it isn't quite as black as the liners. Nice looking none the less! :thumbup:

Looks good. Should be much less conspicuous than the original stainless.

Hmmmm...I wonder what would happen if one got the clip really hot, and then quenched it in water or oil? Would that affect the color?

Try peanut oil. It has a very high flash point. Might just work.

Hey riffraff, I did just that ...at least 2 times and did notice the color change darker a bit faster. I didn't continue to do it, because I was afraid to change the heat treatment (if any) on the clip and make it weaker. It definately changed the color a bit faster.
