A Chris Reeve-type titanium framelock folder.

How about a Military w/ a solid Ti frame lock on one side and a slab of G-10 on the other handle side. You'd have the grip of G-10 but the solid security of a Chris Reeves Ti frame lock on the other side. I think it'd be a pretty wicked setup. Steel options for the blade are many. Just something befitting of such a solid handle foundation.

I'd like a framelock based on the small manix. Make it SV125 steel and it will be one for the ages. It would last me and my son after me with it's bulletproof construction. Call it the "excaliber". It would obsolete several other companies overnight that couldn't keep up with the changing demands of the marketplace ( note reaction to Delica and ZPD 189, You better believe other companies noted the response)

Sal you have created your company ( I remember when your marketing was small ads in magazines :;) and climbed up the ladder as the leader in the industry in quality, innovation and now extra high performance steels for us steel junkies. You now have a responsibility.....heh heh. :;) Joe L.

I think the Military or Paramilitary screams for a treatment like this! My vote is for an existing model, such as the Millies. This has nothing to do with speeding up the design and production process.:D

I would also say for the Military. But if to start something smaller was needed, then start with the Paramilitary, and then if successful go with the full size military.

What Carlos said sounds good to me. It's key IMO to keep it ~3".
I feel the same as this:thumbup: . I find this mid size is pretty much perfect and would most likely appeal to the most users if there was only one size, IMO.

Caly Jr or Para Military are my favorite designs in the size we are talking about. Those two get my vote.

I'd like to see a new design. Three inch blade, full flat grind, spear type blade with some belly, no hump, but still a larger sized hole with an ample cut out on the opening side of the titanium scales to access it, 50/50 choil. Perhaps some kind of embellishing on the handles, nothing too gawdy, though.

just curious, why do so many favor ~3" blades? why this vs. 3.25", 3.5",3.75", or 4.0"? personally 3.5"-3.75" is my sweet spot....

My prefered blade length is 4-4.5 inches.

But ... we're talking Spyderco here. Little blades that cut like big blades.

Also, I note that I, as well as others, are subjected to NKP (Non Knife People) hysteria over normal blade lengths. Ergo, 3-inch blades.

If I had my way, I'd carry any blade I wanted to without being hassled. But if wishes were horses ....

I love Spyderco, but my Small Regular Sebenza has taken Spyderco's place in my pocket for the last 2 years. However, what I would love is a spyderco version if I could get one. I miss the Spyderco opening hole.

My ideal knife would be:

4" handle 3" Blade (you could always have 2 sizes of this knife for those who like a bigger blade)
Titanium handle
Pivot like the Sebenza has
All screwed construction (the fact that it is *easy* to take apart the Sebenza is part of its alure)
Flatground blade (which the Sebbie doesn't have)
Spyderco Hole (of course) - This is what I miss the most
Good steel (I'm actually happy with VG-10, but I'll take any decent steel)

If you make it I will buy it!!!!!!

edit: This is my 100th post!

Carlos,

Please, you gotta' find that original post, I haven't seen it.

What's Sal's take on this, I know for years we've said (been edge-u-cated) that the frame locks were not as strong as the better Spyderco lock designs. It's one of the things that really chafed the "super combat" crew, who preach their knives as so hardcore. Remember all that unpleasantness?

So, though I do like the Sebenza (better than the hardcores; even got to try one on a passaround) I couldn't see the reason to drop the coin when it was ultimately a lesser performer than, say my Military or my Para.

I understand my fellow forumites excitement, but what's a Spyderco version going to bring that makes it better and why make one now? Is it just because some will buy it, or can Golden build a better mousetrap?

I'd want a Caly or Caly Jr.

(I've been trying for years to try and figure out how to put a spyerco hole on a seb).

I don't think that he meant to rebuild, or copy a sebenza. Just, to add a Ti framelock to something like the Para. Now, that excites me. Even if it still had the compression lock, I'd be excited about Ti scales. Follow this with the full size Mili and I'm extatic.

Which part of the knife do you sharpen the most? I have found that when I had a knife longer than 3", I always just end up dulling more of the area toward the tip and at the base for finer work, and the area in between gets unusued. So, I didn't see much of a point in having so much knife that I didn't use. I use to think that it was foolish to buy small knives, when the bigger ones were only just a little more, BUT!!!!!!
BECAUSE handle width almost never (chinook is a good example of an exception) gets scaled up with the bigger folder the smaller ones are sturdier, stronger and most importantly, safer.

I have then asking about a knife like this for awhile. The most expensive knife I ever purchased was a bench made pinnacle that I paid $150 partially because it wanted to try a bench made but basically because I really wanted a titanium Chris Reeves frame lock spyderco didn't offer one. I still carry the bench made a decent amount specially for hacking pieces of wood around bonfires. Where sand is a big issue frame locks shine. But it doesn't take a very good edge being only a benchmade and I could go on about why it is not spyderco but you all know why.

As for the design of the knife I like the idea of a Calypso Jr. with a titanium frame lock

Or a lum Chinese possibly a native all of course with Chris Reeve style locks

As for steel cpm s125v would be my first choice price not being an option, but in reality I would be happy with a more reasonably priced steel. I would love to see this knife in the in the $150-$200 MSRP arrange it possible. Therefore no 125:o

Maybe this could be a Kevin Wilkins collaboration. He make some great Ti framelocks. He has permission to use the spydie hole too. Here are some pics from his site.
