Photos A cool looking design from Ozark trail

People can buy, what they want - even the Ozark

Personally, Id prefer the aforementioned Opinel .... or the Ontario above.

Huh, shipping?

Ahh, so the OP had shipping calculated in the price of the $4 Ozark, got ya' - I did not realize that.

Walmart is pretty much ubiquitous to everyone in the continental US. They do not carry Opinel, and I don't know of a single retailer, big, small, mom and pop that sell #4's for $7. Maybe $10 if you are lucky. But basically arguing over a few dollars. Are two or three tan flippers worth it for the price of an tiny Opinel? Maybe for someone who wants multiple knives to toss in a few drawers. I don't know anything about the knife the OP posted, it looks pretty shoddy to me, I wouldn't buy that one. But the tan flippers are well worth $4, and some might argue it can compete with many knives in the $15 range. Big dollar stuff here!! Now let's start comparing a $4 knife with $20-30 knives ad nauseam.

Hey Rolex, Omega, Breitling... are you picking up what I'm putting down? You better ask somebody.

Wow, I’m joining this party really late, but I’m secure enough with myself to jump in, even on page 7!

OP, I will admit that the stag scale, demascus bolsters, and coated blade make an aesthetically appealing combo. Yes, there, I said it. I agree. I’ll also admit that knowing the quality of such knives, I’d never pick one up unless it was to do something stupidly destructive...which isn’t entirely an impossibility. :D

Here is my experience with an Ozark Trail folder. Right after I got my WSKO, I wanted something cheep to practice on, so I went to pick one of these up at WallyWorld. It was somewhere around 5 bucks.

Yeah, it's a complete piece of :poop:, but I was actually kinda surprised that the blade was centered (not sure why some of our favorite companies can’t do that consistintely at thirty times the price) and the wood scales (whatever they’re made out of) actually fit pretty well. What really surprised me was how well I liked the size of the little cheepie. I decided If I ever found a quality knife the same size, I’d try to pick one up...which I eventually did.

I keep the little :poop: around for abuse and occasional fidgeting. I didn’t think it would ever lead me to one of my all time favorite knives.

I bought that same wood handled model almost 2 years ago but gave it away because It wasn't left hand friendly.
My dad mentioned buying something cheap to leave in his truck to open his mail with other than a jiffy cutter and he liked it so I gave it to him.
Apparently it's worked well for him for this purpose.

If we were able to imagine that the knife was not a POS, the parts lined up and they used nice materials (like real bone, wood, bolster material and a blade steel that I might have heard of) I understand you (and I) liking this knife. I'm currently not into modern folder type knives that are void of natural handle materials, have lettering on the knife and in the worst examples have a z-hunter, mall ninja type theme going on. The worst of which come with a complimentary do-it-yourself vasectomy if it opens up in your pocket :). However, the modern folder/flipper knife is really growing on me. I used my son's and I have been on the lookout. What I need is a gateway drug like a good version of this knife to get me addicted to the modern folder :). I think I see it too, but it is a bit hazy.

It may not be a flipper buy you could start with the case trapperlock.
Other than that, I'm sure there's something out there for you I just don't know what it is.

Btw this knife has been holding up so far and I think it may end up on my work bench.

I saw the exact knife at Wally World and did not buy it.

My Gayle Bradley 2 that was in my pocket at the time said if I bought it....
It would hold it breath till it turned orange.

My ten year old got mad at me for looking at those! He's like why would you even look when you have lots of good knives at home and an xm-18 in your pocket right now? Are you gonna buy one? No, of course not. I said, but I can't help but to stop and look.

But whatever man, if a $4 Walmart knife gets ya home and makes ya feel good, more power to you. I do myself have some of the fake g10 style WM beauties myself, I got some so the cub scouts could practice with them.
