Photos A cool looking design from Ozark trail

If you are happy with the knife, then I am happy for you. People can spend their money any way they want. I, personally, wouldn't buy one and I don't like the look of it (damascus looking bolster + stag looks kinda ugly to me).

Let's look on the bright side. The OP had a cheap honeymoon with the knife. It scratched the itch to get a new knife for only 4 dollars. Imagine how much money that saved him for future sandwiches.

I think your knife looks like a cheap piece of junk.
I feel sure it is from a knife knut point of view. It is beneath my standards normally and I don't even look at knives at WM any more unless it's in the glass case and that is normally just to see what there selling.

Have no problem with Ozark Trail knives as long as you know what you're buying. Yes, mostly junk. But the junk does cut stuff.

Agreed, perhaps I should have said put that 4.00 towards a sandwich :D.

I'd rather people buy a lower end knife from a reputable company than spend 4 dollars on a ticking time bomb.

There was a small Asian food market in our town that made what they called a "Saigon Sandwich" for $3.50 at lunch time.

I don't know what was in it, and it's probably best I never asked, but that damned thing was delicious. Wish they still made them.

Monster-in-law got me one of these Ozark Trail pieces once, as she knows I'm "into knives". Ticking time bomb is correct, I disposed of it pretty quick. The only knife I ever had that was worse than that one was this abomination she got me for Xmas called "eye of the dragon" from none other than the Franklin Mint.

If you want to buy a $4 Wally World special, that's fine. But don't expect a rush of avid agreement here at BFC. That's simple common sense.

.... There are plenty of budget friendly knives out there, made by reputable companies, that will serve you far better than that particular blade. On one side, you can say, "It was only $4, if it breaks, oh well!" On the other hand, you could have put that $8 (you said you bought two?) into something more worthwhile... I can't say I understand your philosophy much.

Kind of reminds me of an old work buddy: He would buy screwdrivers by the dozen from Harbor Freight, his reasoning being that if they broke, he had a handy replacement. I informed him that I only needed to buy a single screwdriver from Klein, not only would it be unlikely to break, but if it did, the company would be there to square me away. Sure, my Klein screwdriver cost as much as a couple dozen from Harbor Freight but, guess what? He either broke or lost all of his, perpetuating an unfortunate cycle, but I still have my good old Klein, a decade or so later.
If one goes back in time a bit, Hickory & Steel started out here mostly talking about knives such as the Ozark Trail or this kind of price range type knives. He upped his consideration a bit, but I see he still likes the cheap stuff. (I might add, functional cheap stuff.) That's okay; it makes the retail world go around. On the screw driver thing (as compared to a knife), I mostly buy the better grade of hand tools and almost all will have guarantees with them. BUT, you can still loose them and warranties usually don't cover loss. I compare with a digital camera (from Best Buy), I ask does your warranty cover water damage? The answer is YES as long as you recover the broke item from the water.

By far the best Ozark Trail $4 knife is the G-10 tan flipper, but for some reason it seems they discontinued it. It is a solid knife and gets very sharp. I have two, wish I had bought 10 of them. There are a couple others that are ok, but most of the others are just $4 worth of knife IMO. The tan flipper re-sells on auction sites regularly for $13-15.
I applaud you for being an individual and shamelessly stating your opinion. But heads up, you just jumped on the wrong band wagon, flip through the 5 pages of reaction the last guy got for trying to convince people of Ozark trails quality. By and large edged knife looking things like that are despised in these parts, and now you're talking about discontinued models and resale value? Stop now before meaner forumites than me "eat you alive" with snarky comments :p :D

Ya, and it's $75.
Eeesh! Why, Ontario, why?!
Wonder why he edited his comment about a bad USA knife vs the ops crap ozark knife out.

Any of you three own the knife being crapped on in the post from the member qouted? Why and how is it worse than the Ozark?

I have no idea if it is better or worse than the Ozark knife, I just don’t like the look of either of them. Fair enough?

Yeah, I didn't read the 5 pages of posts between there and here. I just had a question for Hickory n steel.

D'you plan to pimp this knife a little? I would like to see how it would look with tan micarta slabs instead of that nasty plastic, and maybe some copper screws.

A lot of work to put into a $4 knife, I know, but on the other hand, you don't have much to cry about if you screw it up.

I don't own either of those knives. My comment was to the fact that knives we may consider crap need to sell for much more than $4.

If I am going to put micarta slabs on something that cost me $4 (aside from time), I will buy a 3' bar of 1084 and make a few knives.

I would be willing to bet that a properly HT'd blade from 1084 will have an edge that would outlast the edge on this Ozark Trail knife while cutting cardboard. On top of that, the 1084 should still be tougher than this OT knife.

This is the only Ozark trail knife I own and I dont plan to buy another, I don't look for knives like this ( I did collect cheap stuff like this as a teenager but got rid of them all )
It was just an impulse that I'll test out for a week just for fun.
Before I even joined here I was pretty much done with this stuff ( testing a cheap slipjont every once in a while is a different story )

Plastic stag is not my thing.... years ago I believe Schrade used plastic stag on knives costing much much more (Uncle Henry line I think) and to me they simply looked cheap.

I have followed your posts since your joining. I know that this thread is mostly about fun. I did a thread over in the gadgets forum on a pocket weather station that looked cool and not so cheap. The limited reaction was similar to this.
