Photos A cool looking design from Ozark trail

If I am going to put micarta slabs on something that cost me $4 (aside from time), I will buy a 3' bar of 1084 and make a few knives.

I would be willing to bet that a properly HT'd blade from 1084 will have an edge that would outlast the edge on this Ozark Trail knife while cutting cardboard. On top of that, the 1084 should still be tougher than this OT knife.

I would think so I could probably even make a 2 hour saw blade knife that holds a better edge.
I don't plan to mod this or anything, just test it for a week and see what happens.

Honestly, the only reason I would have one of these knives in my pocket is because I forgot stuff at home and discovered I needed to cut stuff asap and a quick trip to WM or Lowes or something to satisfy the need rather than a trip home.

A guy says he found a cheap knife that looked like some fun and a (relatively) much more expensive company might find the style interesting to work around. OK, no biggie. Here we are on page 6!

I have no idea if it is better or worse than the Ozark knife, I just don’t like the look of either of them. Fair enough?
Looks are completely subjective and relate in no way to quality unless the design impedes function. This thread about ozark knives and the main criticism this community has of them is primarily related to quality. You quoted a post that said the ozark is better than the Ontario without knowing anything other than how it looks. That is not fair enough. You will need to put more thought into your posts when involved in serious discourse to be taken at face value. Same with the other guy who commented and the member who posted the off topic jab at the Ontario (he knew what he posted was baseless, that is why he deleted it).

I think a Vic Secretary would be quite useful. I usually have a knife in my pocket and I usually have other knives inside my vehicle. So, it would be a really weak moment to pick up any Ozark Trail knife for me.

A number of years ago I bought a couple Frost Cutlery knives and decided to make Christmas presents out of them for young nephews.... in one case the first comment was "Frost, huh? Thanks" I just laughed.

I should have been clearer that I was responding solely to taking a glimpse at the OKC knife, linked to in the post, and that it was a reaction based on aesthetics. You may have noticed that my next post described the one OKC I do own, the Rat-1, as “excellent”. So, does that sufficiently explain my position? This is general discussion, I believe, and I merely responded to a link to an OKC model which I didn’t much like. I think that’s allowed, but being relatively new I could be mistaken.

Wonder why he edited his comment about a bad USA knife vs the ops crap ozark knife out.

Any of you three own the knife being crapped on in the post from the member qouted? Why and how is it worse than the Ozark?
I withdrew my comment lol because i have enough infractions here.
A rare review of this rare piece of crap that has high probability of folding on your fingers. Starts at 8 minutes. Just read the knives description lol. Back by popular demand , tough utility knife. The handle of it is nothing like anything else that comes out of okc. This product should hunt them forever. They are a great company btw this piece is just brought up for comedic purpose since we are discussing crap knives. If you think this is quality don't talk to me.

A much better explanation. Thank you. And of course your comment didn't break any rules, it just wasn't conducive to a productive discourse. I nor you know if that knife is any better or worse than an ozark. That is why your clarification on not liking the looks of the knife is important. No fault on subjective asthetics.

Edit to add. I also have a favorite in the Ontario Utilitac II. Id pay the extra $15-20 to get one over the op's knife.

Is that your review? Do you own the knife? I won't be clicking on random reviews as I don't know and trust the reviewer, the information is meaningless to me. I never said it was quality......or an abomination, that was you. I have no experience with this knife and nor does anyone who's experience I trust (bfc members or reviewers I have been following for years). Okc is a quality company. They get the benefit of the doubt way before crap companies like wall Mart knives inc. Your comparison is off.

Thanks. I can’t really get my head around these ultra budget knives, and in the UK we don’t see the Ozark brand anyway! I do associate OKC with good value, in my limited experience. I should have stayed a spectator in this thread. :)

Nah. If you dont take some lumps when new you never learn. I know i sure took mine when i was new.

This is the only Ozark trail knife I own and I dont plan to buy another, I don't look for knives like this ( I did collect cheap stuff like this as a teenager but got rid of them all )
It was just an impulse that I'll test out for a week just for fun.
Before I even joined here I was pretty much done with this stuff ( testing a cheap slipjont every once in a while is a different story )
https://www.flickr.com/gp/153731205@N08/40E4Tm mine's holding up fine so far.

Don't click on it and don't open any email attachements either. Stay safe in your bubble old man.

So I'll take it you don't own the knife and are only speaking about other people's opinions and or experiences. People who I don't know the quality of their perspective no less. Sorry, I'll take my information from personal experience or from sources I know and or trust. Your comparison of a quality, as you put it, "USA" company to a garbage overseas produced bargain bin knife was a fail. Then you topped it off with insults. Good show.

As I said before, i own an overseas produced Ontario knife. It is fantastic and punches way above its price. I'll give okc the benefit of the doubt over random internet reviews and walmart crap.

I applaud you for being an individual and shamelessly stating your opinion. But heads up, you just jumped on the wrong band wagon, flip through the 5 pages of reaction the last guy got for trying to convince people of Ozark trails quality. By and large edged knife looking things like that are despised in these parts, and now you're talking about discontinued models and resale value? Stop now before meaner forumites than me "eat you alive" with snarky comments :p :D

I read the thread, while I appreciate your "warning", you are welcome to eat me, but not in the way you describe.

I own a range of knives, but the most expensive in my collection is probably around a $200 blade (Benchmade 9000 auto which was a gift). I tend to be in the sub $100 range for the most part and while you may get a laugh out of a $4 knife that cut things, some of us also get a laugh about people who spend $500+ on a knife that will cut things.

Need to talk about the Ozark Trails knife, not each other. Else we are done here.

And with shipping and tax puts it around $10 min. even on Amazon with Prime. You are not getting any Opi shipped to your door for $7.

Huh, shipping?

Ahh, so the OP had shipping calculated in the price of the $4 Ozark, got ya' - I did not realize that.
