Ho! Ho! Holy Cow!!!

Awesome group of SHBM's ya' got there, Paul!!!

.

I know a few fir trees that need some Straight Handle lovin'... :grumpy: :grumpy: :grumpy:

Two real possibilities, one that the handles have been replaced.

Two, and this is the one I would most likely go with, is that a Factory fully coated false sharpened swedge is just more Rare than the 300, what ever the reason for or how it was produced.

Jerry would false sharpen the edge if asked to do so at the time of order in the old days, he would also Truly sharpen the Swedge if asked, you might pay extra for it, But Jerry was eager to please, get an order, make a sale, personalize the knife a little, all part of the Charm.

The "1 of 300 " grind has been popping up on a lot of late model and cstm SHBM's for a long time now. It is an easy grind to do. All of the Jungle Assaults from blade 2006 were such grinds. However, 3 of them WERE made from original 1 of 300 blanks, I have one, Mulder has one and Eric has one. They are not, however, considered 1 of 300's because they do not have the original heat treat that sets the original 300's apart from the later models as Andre well knows.

hey Paul!...and you called me a "HOG" ....no way your the HOG!:D

AWESOME COLLECTION! just WOW!

How can you tell that the heat treat process was any different? Other than asking Jerry himself?

M-T minds are curious...

Thanks for the info and comments guys! I'm lucky to have some of my favorite knives! It's hard to find these puppies :D

well, if you want to spend the money you can go get one rockwell tested and that will confirm it.

Your SHBM acquiring skillz are extra-ordinary!

Ok,

There is more to the First 300 or so Battle Mistresses than Meets the Eye.

More than just the Angled cuts on the swedge, or the Handles.

It would be cool for Jerry to Share with the world the History behind the Development of the Knives, That is not my Story to tell, But I will keep Suggesting it here from time to time.

Edited to add

In my last post
I was saying that there are less Busse Battle Mistresses with the False Sharpened swedges with Handles with Holes than there are with Handles with bolts, Less means more Rare.

The funny thing is that I just got my mitts on a 1/300 from a trade and after cleaning the micarta and comparing it to the swedged SHBM pictured in this post, not only do the handles look to be the same (just different fasteners) but the swedges are EXACTLY the same, as is the blade grind and choil. The only difference is that the swedged one has an asymmetrical edge on it (which could have been added if the knife were a 1/300 that might have been sent in for a refurb and ended up with hollow fasteners). If I were lucky, I guess there's a chance I have a refurbed 1/300 :D

Yes, there were many 1 of 300 leftover blanks that over time were made into extraveganza type knives or grab bag knives. They were, however, not HT'd like the first 300 so in effect they are not part of the original run. My Jungle Assault SHBM is an original 1 o 300 blank. However, it is not a 1 of 300 because it is HT's the new way at the newer Rc point.

Dennis,

Do you think if could've been a 1/300 that was sent in for a refurb when the smooth coating was still being used and the last SHBM's were out with the hollow fasteners? :p Just speculating. The shape it's in would probably mean it's one of the Ganzaa knives like you said. Dunno if I'd ever get to getting it rockwell tested, but that would be some great luck to find out it's an original....just refurbished later on (which threw everyone off).

Though I don't think I'd refurb a 1/300....maybe someone else would though. Maybe didn't know what they had.

maybe, but the holes for the slotted bolts are smaller than for tubes so you would think that they would have put bolts in again. Considering that the handles look factory and not the later type that many after production run bm's came with. But who knows. It may just be. Have an Rc test done on it and you will know for sure.

Wow! I'm impressed with your collection AND your collecting skills. I need a seminar.

Keep your hands off the SHSH's. :p
Maybe I should just be glad I got the ones I have before you started looking and HOGging them all.

See you finally admitted in undeniable fashion that you have SHSHs:D Now you'll never hear the end of it:)
