A Day in the... Knife? Daily, What do you actually use your EDC for?

I just wish I could carry my knife at work, I'm constantly breaking down boxes and I have to go hunt down the one box cutter in the place to do it. would be so much easier to pull my edc out and get it done.

Today I got to use my Benchmade Bugout to cut the old tangled twine off the blades of the manure spreader.

The serrations performed this glamourous job like champs!

average day of of usage
On average, I don't use a pocket knife. Meaning that there are more days where I don't use a pocket knife at all, than there are days when I do use one. There are occasionally days when I use one a lot. Just depends on the day and what sort of activities I have planned. Typical work days, I don't need a knife for anything.

Opened packages, broke down cardboard
I also did this today. I opened a box by cutting the packing tape, then broke down the box into smaller pieces for the recycling bin. This is my most common use for a pocket knife. The knife I used for it was a Case 63087 Medium Stockman, because that's what I had on me at the time.

wouldn't a kitchen knife just be much easier all around?
If I am in the kitchen, I use kitchen knives. I have a nice (for me) collection of kitchen knives and they get used whenever I can. I need to get back into cooking more. I haven't had the time for it recently.

The only time I use a pocket knife for food is if I am not at home when I need to cut food. An example was when I used to take apples to work and cut them up. I had a folding knife I carried in my bag, dedicated for that purpose. I washed it off in the break-room kitchen after every use.

My daily knife takes a beating! I cut anything from, opening cement bag, cutting tyvek, trimming drywall, cutting insulation notching boards, prying staples. You name I've probably cut it!

My next knife. Can’t believe how light the Bugout is and how solid they feel.

Hopefully you don’t use yours also for food prep, though....:D

I was starting to think I was the only one...

I use mine daily, cutting packing tape, cardboard or slicing my lunch apple. Cleaning under my finger nails. Digging out a splinter. Hand cutting
a seal for a hose fitting. Many things but this is what I have used it for this week. DM

Opening packages and mail, but I use my knife most at work. Cutting rope, straps, shrink wrap, breaking down boxes, etc etc.

I use my knives for whatever the day trows at me.

I work in a store so there i use it probably 50-100x a day cutting open boxes, zipties, cutting off tags ect.

All light use though, zo naturally i have a ZT 0920 on the way.

Yesterday I used my Vic Farmer to cut bailing twine and a feed bag.Mid morning I came upon a tiny sparrow flapping it's little wings trying to get free of fencing wire that it somehow got its foot stuck between. I gently held it in one hand and used the awl on my farmer to spread the wire just enough to free it.Later that afternoon my para 2 was used to cut open a huge thick box containing a large screen tv.

That video should be mandatory viewing for all people who ask why you carry a knife!!!!!!!
I’ve cut myself more times on that goddamn packaging plastic over the years than I ever will with my knives. Crap is just evil!

Just thinking over the last few weeks my EDC has broken down many boxes, tightened screws, opened one can of soup, cut rosemary for dinner out of the backyard, opened 4 bags of planting soil, opened mail, drilled starting holes for wreath hangers, opened beer bottles, trimmed skin off the end of the Thanksgiving turkey, and broke up ice for drinks.

The key here is I'm not talking about just a main blade. My primary EDC is an Alox Vic Soldier where I use not only the main blade but the all the other tools including the amazingly useful awl.

Lol I have been doing that same thing for a few weeks. I also use my ESEE 4 to make stakes for snares around the farm I work. Skin the wabbits they catch. Start the fire/process kindeling, and cut up said wabbits when cooked. Oh and phesant just opened so probably process one of them soon. I cut/prune the plants with it when indont have my sheers. Cut legths of rope. Castrate cow. Open beers with the spine. Take the cover off of wires. Cut random stuff. I also use my SAK Pioneer alot. The awl is great for cleaning out bowls, and use as a dab pin
