A "Gentleman Badass" Folder

Great, thanks for the great pic of the OD-1, looks like I'm buyin one now!

Wrong quote dude.

But you're welcome :) I've tweaked mine so that it is the smoothest frame lock I have ever held. It takes almost no effort to open it because of the cam which propels the blade--yet I have the detent to where it will still hold the knife closed. Truly a work of art.

I have a BM Nagara which is very sleek indeed, but somehow it doesn't seem to me that it's up to the heavier usage which the OP requested.

What I would recommend following the OP's specs is a Spyderco Caly 3 - you can find the high end version with carbon fiber and ZDP steel for around $125 if you look around. But the normal version with G10 handle and VG10 steel is also cool. It's being discontinued and you may well be able to find it at around $100.
This one is both very tough with a high end blade, and it's still elegant and compact. One of Spyderco's most successful designs in my opinion. I think it totally fits your needs.
An alternative: the Caly 3's cousin the Spyderco UKPK is also great. A modern high end slipjoint.

The OP's requests are either kinda out of his price range or out of his specs. Between $50 and $100.

Heck, a $28 Tenacious in G-10 is a workhorse, has more blade than a Caly 3 G-10 for 1/3 the $$ and can be EDC'ed easily too but it's not what I'd consider a gentleman's folder.

If you start looking for very classy small folders, like the Nagara, they won't take heavy usage.

I think he should get 2 knives. One to crank on and one to look stylish in!

You get what you pay for and there are always trade-offs, IMHO, no one knife can do it all.

You are correct, knivesandguns - I was doing 3 things at once and quoted the wrong post.

About the other knives in the pictures, are the rams all yours, and who did the scales? I like the black blade with the real dark cocobolo, looks like the ones that dobson did. can you tell me how the ram is for edc? I find my shallots and blurs a little too big for edc, and prefer leeks (ti/zdp or composite) or my zing are better suited for dress pants. Question for you - how does the ram compare in size to the leek/zing/od-1 sized knives?

How about Spyderco's Native 4 in carbon fiber on closeout at some places?
Or a Seki Cut Lum Encounter? Or AG Russell's titanium framelock Italian tactical or folding flat ground spear point? All of these are around $100 or so. Otherwise I would second looking at the CRKT and Kershaw offerings.

crkt/carson m4? i believe their is a model with wooden slabs...very neat knife, wish i could afford one atm.

I thought I read the spyderco volpe being described as a gentleman's knife so I got one for my dad for Christmas.

It's pretty bad ass!

That's actually firebert's picture. I LOVE the RAM for EDC! I carry it all the time in the summer--It's so smooth--smoother than an axis lock; it has no resistance except for the hawk lock holding it open and close. All of this, and it still has virtually no blade-play as well. I took out one of the springs in the hawk lock so that it is easier on the thumb when opening and closing. I only have a silver one--I think the black-bladed one looks classier.

Here's a few quickies.

Sorry for the slight thread de-rail--but these photos have to do with the OT ;)

How do you get those Kershaw R.A.M.'s with the cool different scales?

They're really beautiful but when I look them up online they're not so nice like that.

My Chokwe is a badass gentleman's knife. Titanium, S30V, G10, modern design with a cultural history. Fit and finish to rival an sebbie. And the best slicer I've ever seen.

Another possibility might be the Daghetta by Lion Steel. Interesting g10/carbon fiber handle and an interesting lock. AG Russell's sells it.

Yes they are actually that nice if you order them from Phillip Dobson (also known as Firebert) His work is stunning.

Here's his website: http://www.flickr.com/photos/26671647@N02/

He made all of the scales in that photo with the RAM's, JYD, Groove, and ZT 0650ST.

Those Spyderco Chokwe's are made in China right? That's what I was seeing online. Very interesting blade.

This is why I love bladeforums: knife porn a'plenty.

What, where, and how much? I'm sure it's out of my range, but it might displace the Sebbie as the "at some point, I must-nay, I owe it to myself- to buy..." knife.

LONE WOLF makes some killer knives that may be what you are looking for.

The longhorn, blackfoot, and raven are all under $100 (if you look in the right places) and they come with nice wood scales and S30V blades (maybe even CPM-S30V). I would also check out Lone Wolf's other models. they make some really nice folders.

Although a little above your price range, The Fallkniven P series seems to fit the rest of your criteria perfectly.
