A "Gentleman Badass" Folder

Yes they are actually that nice if you order them from Phillip Dobson (also known as Firebert) His work is stunning.

Here's his website: http://www.flickr.com/photos/26671647@N02/

He made all of the scales in that photo with the RAM's, JYD, Groove, and ZT 0650ST.

Thanks knivesand guns! excellent pictures. Nice collection of kershaws! It looks like the ram is much closer to the size af the zing/od-1/leek. Looks like I have 2 knives to pick up soon! Ram and OD-1. I already have a zing at dobsons getting custom black G10 scales, with red liner and red backspacer. I was thinking about getting the od-1 done to match! Back to OT from mlanghornes, you could not be dissapointed with any of these kershaws, I love the ones I have.

On the RAM - anybody handle the custom G&G models? I think they have IKBS and must flip like the wind.

You should look at some stainless steel spyderco, i think they are tough enough to take some damage and classy. I have the police model... well more badass than gentleman, the main drawback is the word POLICE on the blade.

I have two folders that possibly fit into this class:

1. Kershaw Spec Bump: S30v blade, G10 handle, stainless liners, assisted opening, innovative locking mechanism, Ken Onion design with one of the most ergonomic handles I have ever had the pleasure of holding, made in the USA, and it can take a beating. All of this for about $100 online.

2. Also, the Benchmade Dejavoo or Mini Dejavoo. This is an absolutely beautiful knife. If James Bond carried a back-up knife, it would be a Dejavoo. IMHO, this knife would not look out of place clipped in a tuxedo pocket. S30v blade, smooth G10 handle (almost looks like black stained wood), titanium liner lock, deep pocket clip, Bob Lum design and also very ergonomic handle. You can probably find this online for around $125. I've also used my Dejavoo for some serious cutting task and it has handle them with no problems at all.

If you are not flexible on price, I would chose the Spec Bump. I actually can not believe all that can be had in a knife at that price, along with Kershaw's excellent customer service. If you want I little more class and can up the price a little, pick the Dejavoo. Either way you will not be disappointed.

This is why I love bladeforums: knife porn a'plenty.

What, where, and how much? I'm sure it's out of my range, but it might displace the Sebbie as the "at some point, I must-nay, I owe it to myself- to buy..." knife.

My friend that is a sebbie Just with damascus and a one off handle i own one similar. The damascus is devin thomas. the owner is the only one that could tell you what the cabachon is made of. Sebbies are great save up and purchase one some day, functional art if ever it existed.

Here are some that Dagon posted in another thread (credit goes to him, not me)

they are around $200. I don't have one myself but they should be great and they look splendid. Bring a bit of continental style to your collection:

This Viper Gent, cheapest olive wood version should be within your budget. Italian style, great quality, liner lock:

Also consider this lovely and dependable backlocking Lion Steel Opera, also lovingly crafted in Italy, here in buffalo horn, and it also exists in olive wood. Within your budget, and a really seriously good choice:

I can also strongly recommend the Perceval "Le Français", percisely built with a liner lock. Hyper elegant and available with different handles. Unfortunately you suffer from todays dollar/euro exchange ratio as it will cost you around $150. Truly lovely nevertheless:

Finally another wonderful French one is the modern "Le Thiers" by the excellent guys from Fontenille-Pataud. Different handles, and unfortunately also around $150.

lotta cool folders shown but few people have kept within the OP's parameters:

- 3 to 4 inch blade, plain edge, conventional geometry.
- no plastic scales
- would look out of place on a battlefield (i.e. not a scary shape, & no black g10?)
- one-hand opening
- pocket clip
- capable of serious use
- price close to $100 or less

I am still of the opinion that the ultimate value in this class of knife would be a Browning Ice Storm

Those are actually Firebert's knives. :D

YOu're going to have a lot of fun with that reborn Zing! He does awesome work--and yes you need to pick up the Od-1 and RAM!

The Custom's don't have IKBS, but something crazier... I think...

+1 on the OD-1 now. I picked one up today. Did not even like it while holding the blister pack in my hands. Got it home and opened it up, and it is a VERY good fit and finish, looks and feels like a >$100 knife. It's the sharpest factory knife I have ever bought. I prefer tip down carry, so clip is great for me. The blade style (is this a clip point?) is great. I am one of the biggest leek fans out there, but this knife has the potential to be a all around better knife than the leek.

to Kershaw - I would pay $100 for one of these in ZDP S90v or S110v

DMS1.....shhhh! Don't give them any ideas. Better steel 's a comin! :D

It is a Sebenza. Just a dolled-up one. :D

havnt seen it mentioned, spyderco Sage1, Carbon fiber scales, liner lock. beautiful well executed knife and can be had at just under $100 dont understand why so many post knives that are well above your price range.

The Daghetta is indeed a good suggestion. Relatively rare, well made, a strong lock, good price, chic mixed CF/G10 handle.

if you dont get the white bone one you're fine, but the reports i've heard before i bought one was that the white bone scales crack very easily. I will probably buy one when I come back stateside but the jigged bone model over the white bone. Other then that they are very solid, look similar to crawfords custom line.

Go for the small one too, the big one is BIG...weights over 10oz.

Having carried one the past few months, I agree, that is HEAVY.
