A "Gentleman Badass" Folder

i would get a kershaw of some sort (i love the zings and grooves but some dont like the blade design) and get some wood scales from Philip Dobson i just googled his website and there not to pricy and i think they look great and should stay around 100 maybe alittle over after shipping for both if you price shop thru the internet for the knife. when i saw that picture earlyer in the thread i almost drooled i think kershaw is great bang for your buck now that i saw the wood scales i think ima get a black tanto groove and swap blades with my reg version so its got a black handle and get some of those scales.... should be nice

When I started reading the post, I thought "Sebenza" right away, but then I read the rest of the post :D.

I'd consider a G-10 Spyderco Delica or Endura.

Spyderco Centofante 3 or 4. I read an ad and they even called it "the gentleman's folder." Elegant, but quite bad ass.

I thought I had posted this already, but apparently not. Now that we're a year down the road from when this thread was originally started, I thought I would post about some higher dollar knives I consider to be be a "Gentleman's Badass" folder!:)

Though I'm not a real fan of SOG, I have had the bone version of this knife and it came with really excellent fit/finish/function, and sharp as a razor! Talking about the Architect. These are costly though and for that reason I haven't gotten another one. At $175 to $200 for the damascus model I would probably purchase it. Here goes;

How about Spyderco's Native 4 in carbon fiber on closeout at some places?
Or a Seki Cut Lum Encounter? Or AG Russell's titanium framelock Italian tactical or folding flat ground spear point? All of these are around $100 or so. Otherwise I would second looking at the CRKT and Kershaw offerings.

I use the Native 4 cf as my one hand opening gents knife. It was a Christmas present from my wife last year, one of the best gifts I've ever received, and yes she got that killer closeout price for 100 smackers.

OP said no FRN. But I love my Cento, and the smooth FRN with subtle design is very classy. The thin, Wharncliffe blade is easy to fall in love with. Pity they discontinued the 4. I'm sure the 3 is just as tasty.

Ken Onion/CRKT Eros IKBS flipper.

That blade almost looks longer than the handle, gotta be one of the best blade:handle ratios around. Looks like it fits the bill for what OP was asking for as well.

Wish I had read this thread earlier, just ordered a Leek from KC for my roomate, didn't know about the Kershaw OD1, though, which is barely more expensive and really cool looking.

Here are some that Dagon posted in another thread (credit goes to him, not me)

they are around $200. I don't have one myself but they should be great and they look splendid. Bring a bit of continental style to your collection:

This Viper Gent, cheapest olive wood version should be within your budget. Italian style, great quality, liner lock:

Also consider this lovely and dependable backlocking Lion Steel Opera, also lovingly crafted in Italy, here in buffalo horn, and it also exists in olive wood. Within your budget, and a really seriously good choice:

I can also strongly recommend the Perceval "Le Français", percisely built with a liner lock. Hyper elegant and available with different handles. Unfortunately you suffer from todays dollar/euro exchange ratio as it will cost you around $150. Truly lovely nevertheless:

Finally another wonderful French one is the modern "Le Thiers" by the excellent guys from Fontenille-Pataud. Different handles, and unfortunately also around $150.

I absolutely love the Native 4 CF! I own a lot of knives (most of them Spydies). The Native 4 is the one that makes into my pocket almost everyday.

I'm also looking for a gentlemen's folder and i have narrowed it down to either a bencmade nagara or a Spyderco Terzuola Slipit. I am pretty sure im going to go with the benchmade though, titanium+liner lock= :D

Nak-lock on the BM Nagara. It is much more similar to Spyderco's compression lock than it is to a liner lock.

To the OP, I would suggest the Boker Exskelimoor I. Bog Oak scales over blue Ti liners, blue Ti standoffs, blue Ti pocket clip, and a nicely satin finish 440-C blade. The opening mechanism is pretty cool as well. All well under $100.

These are not my pictures, but I do own the knife as well as the Exskelimoor II and the Exskelibur I.

I can think of a number of badass gent knives.

MT Daytona or UTx85

BM42MC

Valotten converted D/A Sebenza or Umnumzan

Anything by Burn

Waved double edged Spyderco Police 3

Just so I'd echo some outstanding suggestions already mentioned:

1. Lot's of the Lion Steel offerings. A personal standout for me is the Daghetta (Thanks to Dagon for the review!)

2. Seki Cut Bob Lum's Encounter (like that one very much too!)

3. Boker Plus (Several including the Anti-MC, Elegance and Titan )

4. Kershaw Splinter with quince Wood

5. Emerson A-100

6. Of course on Chris Reeve's Mnandi and AG Russel's Acies are there too but significantly higher in the price ladder

It seems your getting a lot of recommendations above the set amount so I'll add one more.

Mcusta- Pretty much anything they make, just pick one...
