A good Air Rifle?

A few years back, I bought my at the time benjamin sheridan .177. It's the old time 10 pump. I didn't want a 7 YO sling .22 caliber lead.

I put a Williams peep site on it.

I put the Williams peep sight on my Benjamin as well. It's definitely nicer than the stock sights although I am pretty accurate with both.

One way to test the maximum number of pumps it should hold is to see if there's still any air after you shoot by cocking again and pulling the trigger. If you hear or feel (make sure you don't load a pellet :D) any air at all, it was pumped up too much.
Mine will take about 10 pumps because I've made the chamber larger and put a different spring in the valve. Usually 6-8 pumps is plenty though.

My favorite airguns are the older Beeman Weihrauch R1 and R7, made in Germany of the highest quality materials and workmanship. They both have the exquisite clockwork Rekord adjustable trigger, and will shoot under 1 inch groups routinely at 30 yards with standard open sights, the R1 somewhat further. It has the custom installed higher powered Maccari spring.

In the R1's favor is its higher power, and the fact that there is an extensively illustrated and very thorough user manual written by an R1 specialist that used to, maybe still does, have a very respected airgun website (sorry, forgot his name). The manual discusses disassembly, tuning, repair, etc in great detail.

The R7 is a scaled down version of the R1, and as such is a delight to shoot because the R1 is pretty big and relatively heavy. It is easier to cock, carry, and tote.

Both guns are made to shoot tens of thousands of rounds and last indefinitely. They are heirloom guns.

I love my R7. It has the best trigger I've ever had on any gun. I haven't shot it much lately because I'm lazy! I have heard that the R1 will just eat up scopes if not rated for "heavy" air guns.

I have given up a little velocity by going with a Nitro-Piston .177 but I'm not sure I'm interested in using a spring gun anymore. The volume and recoil is so far less and the accuracy of mine (Remington Notro Piston) groups 5 pellets into less than a dime on a still morning. It's deadly accurate and easy to shoot accurately.
