What do you guys think is a good overall edc knife just for casual carry. Like not task specific not for work just for that knife in you're pocket all the time. I been looking at a few things and im kind of stuck. My knowledge has expanded a lot since i first came here a couple months ago but im still very new to this stuff.
I been looking at a Spyderco Endura, those full flat ground ones look real nice.
Benchmade valox handled barrage. I seen some videos on it and it looks like a cool knife.
Those are the 2 that stick in my head but i dont know much about alot of companies yet.

What would you guys suggest? My birthday is soon and people have been asking me what would i want? Especially my parents, they want to get me something im going to actually use and not just some dumb crap in a box that will sit in the corner. I dont need nothing too fancy, i just want it to be easy enough to touch up and maintain the blade at home, and have a nice carrying pocket clip, doesnt have too be deep carry just sit in the pocket well and not be too obvious. I would also like it to have a nice ergonomic handle to fit well with a large glove sized hand. There is no tactical or self defense intentions, no hard use or anything like that. Just a good reliable blade that i know i can rely on if i need to cut something.

Suggestions guys please? It doesnt have to be either of those up there that i listed if you think there is something else that would be better.

I'd say a Vic SAK, like a Super Tinker or something like a Case Stockman...because I'm not a big fan of the one-handed opening "tactical" knives.

That said, Spyderco Delica and Benchmade Griptilian are excellent, "standard" choices from the "tacticals."

Obviously no pocket clip, but still one of the most useful EDC pocket knives I've yet to encounter...

I think you would really like a Benchmade 940. Very easy to carry and very smooth to open and close. Nice size blade in a small package. Good Luck! Kevin :D

Benchmade 710 D2 or Griptilian... although i prefer the 710, just a great overall knife! good ergos, great blade shape just under 4", excellent f&f, carries well, it was the first knife with an Axis lock. it is a classic. and in my opinion great value for your money...

let us know what you end up getting!

Everyone loves my small sebenza with wood inlays.

I can hard use it, simple tasks, and even play with. Not only that its pleasing to look at, a gentlemen's knife.

however I think a CR mnandi fits that bills a bit better.

My personal plug for the spyderco parimilitary 2 or the zt 561, both pricy, approx $150 and $170 respectively, and both worth it if you can swing the cash,

Just about every reputable knife maker has something that fits this category. All the above suggestions are great. Right now I carry a Bench made 950 rift and I use it for everything you would use a folder for. :D

Mini Griptilian or Paramilitary 2 would be my suggestions. The Paramilitary 2 is a hot item these days, but it's pretty small in pocket with a tough blade and easy to take care of (cheap leather strop would be perfect). The clip is pretty good on it, the only issue is that touching the blade up is really easy, but if you get it dull it will take a lot of work (S30V in that one). VG-10 is used on a lot of less expensive Spyderco models and is easy to sharpen, but it dulls much more quickly. For sporadic use, a knife featuring this metal would be good as well. The Delica and Endura are the most popular.

The Mini griptilian I've never used but many carry it as their EDC. There's a lot to like about it, but I'll let those with more experience tell you that.

Let me suggest you consider something else altogether - a Buck 501 Squire. It's not a one hand knife, it's not tactcal, it's not Blade Forums trendy. What it is is a very practical knife that can pretty well disappear in your pocket or worn on a belt with the included leather sheath. Less than $40 most places, takes an easy wicked edge (420HC stainless steel) and holds it well. And it's not a knife that will scare anyone even though you've got a blade nearly 3" long. I have three getting my first around 1980, my second in 2000, and my most recent just a week ago.

All the forum fanboys for Reeve knives will have you or your folks spend a ridiculous $400+ on a knife that is more about bragging rights than anything else even though they seem to be well-made. While I don't care the the thumbhole knives that Spyderco makes (just hate their looks) my usual carry is a Benchmade Mini-Grip with thumbstud and straight edge.

The recommendation for a Victorinox Swiss Army knife is a very good one. There are countless versions. I like the Cadet, Explorer, Farmer, Champ, Climber, One Hand Trekker, Ambassador and Classic (the last two I carry with my Mini-Grip or Buck 501 or 500.

If you want a "great overall edc" it's hard to do better than the Buck 501:

For a smaller choice, I highly recommend the spyderco dragonfly! It's small but it's cool, and will handle almost anything a larger blade will. A little larger, think bm mini grip and spyderco native. The native is actually a pretty cool knife in s30v and at only $65 seems like a good value! Larger knives, look at the manix 2 knives...and (though I don't own it) the caly 3.5 looks awesome!

If you like the Barrage and a spring assisted knife, a slightly smaller new knife is the Benchmade Volli.

Either a gold class griptillian or a crk mnandi are perfect as edc and usable in every situation.

Just to update you guys some. Still looking at a lot of the recommendations that you guys gave. But as for stuff like a Chris reeve and other 400$ things, its just not going to happen. I honestly don't see why you would pay that much for it tbh, and i just honestly don't need something that expensive to be carrying around all the time. I don't want to start any kind of arguments or anything because of feeling like this, Its just not something that's for me, at least not right now anyway.

Give it time. Before you know it you'll be saying to yourself, while opening your second Sebenza, "I remember when I thought people were crazy to pay $400 for a knife!"

Lots of good suggestions here. I will second the Victorinox Pioneer and the Spyderco Dragonfly2. Both fall into the "at some point everyone needs to have one" category... IMO.

EDC knives are typically small-medium sized. I found an Endura was a little long for my tastes.
What's your budget?

Kershaw: Leek, blur, Skyline
Spyderco: Tenacious, Sage I or II, Delica, Caly 3 or 3.5.
Benchmade: MiniGriptillian, 940, 707

There are others as well, but those are ones I've owned and they are all great choices. The Sage II is probably my favorite.
