a great overall edc?

It seems like our knife tastes could be similar. I can definitely agree that the clip on the JYD is better suited to a junkyard. I would say to take a look at a Manix 2. The XL version has always seemed a bit large for me, but the standard Manix 2 can get you past those barriers you had with the JYD, the rusting, edge rolling, and bad clip.

I've had a Manix 2 in 154CM for a few years and the fit and finish is fantastic on it. Holds and edge well, but I'd probably go for an S30V variant if I were you.

Good luck bud, and Happy Birthday.

Start with a Spyderco Delica.

I have some nicer knifes money wise, but as a pratical knife for pocket time it is hard to beat the delica. Just my bias (call me a fan boy if you wish) Endura is a great knife if your hands are bigger or if you just prefer a larger folder. I would be happy wither either in ffg, but the delica is better size imho.

Check out some traditionals, like Buck, Case, Queen, GEC. Ride in the pocket far better than an endura. Really functional, comfortable knives.

Al Mar SERE 2000, Emerson Journeyman, or Spyderco Manix 2. It really depends on how large a blade you prefer.

I would absolutely suggest checking out the Spyderco Sage series. My Sage 1 is very smooth, ergonomic, and sits very nicely in the pocket. In addition I'll have to jump on the Para 2 bandwagon because it really is a phenomenal EDC blade. Last but not least would be the Spyderco Southard. It's been my favorite EDC lately and the ridiculously smooth flipping action on it has become quite addicting.

Caly 3.5 vs Delica. Same size closed, but the caly has a longer cutting edge. Also with the G10 and the wire clip, I'd take a caly over a Delica.

From what i understand the lock on that manix 2 is very similar to the lock on the benchmades? I was looking at a benchmade presidio and kind of liking it, was the presidio ultra. Seemed like a good quality to price ratio. Ive looked at the griptilian but something about the design of the knife just doesnt float my boat. Im going to check out the manix. Witch one is better though the g10 one with s30v? or the frcp one with bd1?

Idk after looking and searching around im starting to like the endura and delica less and less because of the lock. It seems like there are better and easier just as strong one handed locks.

Not sure if this kid is paying much attention to the recommendations offered.

Don't let the whole lock strength issue cloud your decision. In my opinion, folding knives are designed to do two things: fold and cut. If you're doing something with your folder that relies on the strength of the lock, you're probably doing something you shouldn't (any lock can fail under the right circumstance.) There are plenty of folders that don't even have a lock and they work just fine. That's just my two coppers for the pot. The Delica and Endura are both solid choices for an EDC type knife...

Good luck! :)

I think i poorly worded what i was trying to say. Im not worried about the strength of the lock, more of the just easy one handed opening and closing aspect.

also i have a question. On my jyd 2.2 it rusts really easy, i live in a fairly humid climate, fairly close to the east coast shore (don't feel comfortable exactly saying where). Is it that steel that rusts or is it the finish on the blade? I just dont wanna worry about after being in my pocket while im sweating at work all day and i come home and its discoloration spots on it from where rust is starting. I dont think i need some like super rust proof steel but just decent corrosion resistance would be nice. I always wipe my knife off at night before i put it away too.

Lock preference and comfort are completely valid. Sorry for getting a little preachy on the strength issue... :o

Does the Junkyard Dog 2.2 have a bead-blasted blade? If so, you could try polishing the blade. Bead-blasted finish is notorious for rust.

Yea im pretty sure its bead blasted 14c28n. It seems to rust easy and not really hold its edge that well. I mean it stays sharp but rolls real easy. I think i might like the benchmade axis lock because from what i see it seems to be real easy to operate one handed. I never personally tried it but it looks good. How does it hold up if anyone knows, does it last and is it real durable or do the springs for the lock wear out? Also how is benchmades 440c, the knife im looking at has 440c

White,

I think you would enjoy the G10/S30V variant better than the lightweight FRN handled option. The ball bearing lock is really easy to manipulate one handed.

And to CSG, this "kid" is replying and paying attention to the blades he likes and would enjoy. Seems like a natural thing to do when you're asking for recommendations. He may just not be in to back locked blades or traditional style yet, someday he may be. No need to bash him for having a preference.

So when it comes to maintenance on the manix 2 is it the kind of knife that needs to be disassembled to be cleaned or can it be cleaned while its still assembled?

I haven't had to disassemble mine yet, It hs been great for me in the time i've had it. All I do is just the regular maintenance I do with all of my blades, clean out the pivot/lock areas with a dry toothbrush and then add a drop of some type of lubrication to the pivot. Still smooth as can be.

Im really looking between thn manix 2 and the benchmade presidio ultra. The presidio ultra is just under 70$ and the manix 2 is right at 80 from what i can see online. Hard decision to make now.
