a heavy tool for survivng th first 24

As has been pointed out by a few, I have come across as condencending and arrogant.

Even though this was not my intention, on reading my posts a second time & thinking about it, it is a pretty fair description.

To any who may have been offended I offer a sincere appology :o

I can assure all that it won't happen again

Kind regards
Mick

You don't have to go anywhere mick, especially after that. The thread could have been way worse and it is good that everyone still kept jovial.

G'day Pit

I'm a slow learner, but it has finally dawned on me that I have misunderstood the "wilderness" part of W&SS.

As has been correctly pointed out, I'm from a different place & time from most here.

Since what I have to offer is irrevelent to the majority, it's time for this dinosaur "to go the way of the dodo". :D

I wish everyone, many safe & happy future experiences in the outdoors :thumbup:

Kind regards
Mick
All due respect, I think you're going too far the other way.

No one wants you to leave.

I won’t always agree with another’s technique nor will they always agree with mine. What I have learned is to respect the decisions they’ve made, choices of tools or techniques they use…they may not work for me, but I won’t discount that the other individual’s skill and preference can make them work for their own uses.

ROCK6

Rock6 said it best.

There's been too much "You way sucks, my way is the only way" going around lately, IMO. I'm as guilty of it as anyone else.

Maybe we can ALL just take more of a "if it works for you, it isn't stupid" attitude, and continue on?

I mean let's face it: we live in the modern world. We've read all the stories of people getting into survival situations, and it's rarely the prepared person. We rarely hear about prepared people getting into such situations because the story is boring "Yep, I got lost, made a fire, cooked some SPAM, woke up the next day, oriented myself with my map & compass, and went home." Not newsworthy.

OK, in modern times, the actual likelihood of needing any of this is slim to none. We do it because it's fun.

Let's go have more fun.

Don't worry we've all had our moments. It's what keeps the chats interesting.:D Plus, it's really hard to convey mood in writing.

G'day Mick,

I just wanted to post in this thread one more time, to convey a point that I have. We all share a love of the outdoors and wilderness skills. I wish I had the skills and experience that you do. I have been on this planet for 32yrs, soon to be 33yrs, and in that time, I have gained some woodland skills. Not much, but I am still learning everyday, and that's the point.

I have learned much from the members of this forum, including you. Guys like you, Pit, Riley, Tony, Rick, have all broadened my knowledge base of what it takes to make it in the woods. Here's why, your an Aussie, Pit's a Canadian, Tony and Riley are Yankees (Northern Americans), Rick's from another planet, but its nice there and they like him. I'm from East Tennessee. There are others here as well, don't feel like I left you out on purpose, this will be a big enough wall of text anyway. Back to the topic at hand, diversity in our regions is what has lead us all to be smarter and more rounded individuals.

You're not a dino and should not go exstinct on these forums. For a reason, tomorrow there will be a noob getting on here, and he will not know anything, and you will teach him something. It maybe the something that keeps his ass alive in a tough spot. Nuff sed.

Big knives, little knives, axes or machetes, there is as much diversity in our tools as there are our regions. Keep the posts coming, I'm only 32, I still have alot to go.

Sidenote: I've always wanted to see Australia, but not the city, the bush is where I want to go. Now, I know if my pink, fat ass was out there by myself, I'd be spider food in a day. If I was going to pick a guide, should I go through a guide service, or look your dino ass up one day, when I get rich enough to get there?

Be cool and Be careful Mick, I hope you stick around.

My opine We Live in a modern world where we go to work/commute from most part Urban or travel from rural so look at what will work in both.
Me I keep a Machete and smaller blade Plus a CS RifleMans Hawk and CS Shovel in the car ,in my INCH bag a Estwing Hachete these two Have Mass to blast walls or locks or chop wood.
Now over 20-30 years these tools have been used many times to do what has to be done and Not Failed the most Hot/ New/ Tac/ are nice but will you leave it in the car?

I will ALWAYS believe that a Big Knife can do things a Small knife can do "better" than a Small Knife can do what a Big Knife can do.

Especially when it comes to making shelter..

YMMV

And an Axe better than either sized knife IMHO. I agree with you buddy about a chopper over a little blade, but when the weather turns and the day is getting late, do I want to hack three times as long with a knife, or get it done much quicker with an Axe. The knife is more fatiguing also.

Mick, I am the king of making an ass out of myself at this place and unless a mod kicks me off I`m not going anywhere. I say go the way of the doodoo instead of the DoDo, stick around we all have stuff to offer and you have a unique perspective and skills.

I was initially a bit put off at your post, but then that happens to me often enough from a variety of people. So to blow off steam I then go and insult Rick. Its a useful tool that more people should take advantage of....Its like confession, instead of 10 hail Mary`s you post 10 innuendo`s at Rick`s expense ;) Apparently, Talfuchre has been an angel this past 6 months. I`m sure that guy must be sinning somehow!

sniff, sniff... Talfuchre no longer fabricates entire threads solely dedicated to insulting me, anymore... That stings, man.

I think Rick ate him at the last "survival training" session.

A tarp is even faster than a rambo knife, tomahawk, hatchet, or axe at making a shelter. But that's just me.

Sorry if it's already discussed. I'm just too lazy to read this thread.

Psssst.... yeah you. Do you think he's talking about me?

I just blow a gasket on the simplest of things....Like when a pretty girl puts her hand on my thigh.....Maybe its Tourette's.....;)

and lighter. And less likely to hurt me when I'm tired.

Mick, hola

If this really is you falling on your sword then ho hum 'cos I see you delivering posts at other places. I very much hope it isn't though. Despite the fact that I don't take friends requests from anyone that doesn't negate the fact your are one of my favourite contributors here. And here's the thing; despite enjoying your content it is your style that I like. I have yet to see you ever make a personal attack on any target individual despite the way you hold your views. This forum requires disciplined people like that, you'd be surprised at how many I've had to put in my browser's Bozo Bin for failing to achieve even those minimum standards.

Either way mate I'm sure we'll speak again. Happy trails.

See, Mick?.... You have been Baldtaco-II approved, buddy.... THAT is not to be taken lightly, my friend. You CAN'T leave now.

and lighter. And less likely to hurt me when I'm tired.

I carry those too, I just don't mention it on survival boards. On survival boards I tell everyone that I light everything--even the pilot lights in my house-- with a firesteel and that I carry my EDC kit around my neck even in the shower.

If I were carrying one of these huge kits I see sometimes posted, I'd definitely have a poncho/tarp (at least if I'm not in a desert) and pot/canteen cup long before I'd carry my third knife, a big fishing kit, or ten pounds of comfort food.
