A Holy Grail!

At least he KNOWS what is waiting for him at the P.O.!! We dont know what it is, or how wonderful it will be when we see it! Charlie...I want a play by play....I want you to tell me what it was like opening the package and seeing the HOLY GRAIL for the first time by your own eyes!! I can't wait, I can't wait!!

I can't believe Charlie's Holy Grail is a Sebenza, not that there's anything wrong with that. Oops! :foot:

I hate it when that (this, waiting) happens.

I seem to live in a postal dead zone. My last outgoing Priority package took 5 days to arrive at its destination. I had a recent USPS shipment from MidwayUSA take 11 days to get here, and it was just an envelope. It's not like I live in the sticks. Oh, no: We have one Post Office for over 50,000 residents and 15,000 students (college town). There's never any parking, it takes 20 minutes to get through the line on a good day, and you don't even dare get near the place during Christmas. I can't tell you how many times I've put up with all that, hoping my new knife might have arrived.

Argh... Anyway, good luck waiting on your knife, Charlie! (Just needed to make a knife reference in this otherwise self-serving, whining post... ;))

This is Thursday, and you could have been to the Post Office already....
We are waiting....

It's almost closing time here (2hrs), have you peddled down to the PO yet?
Inquiring minds want to know. :D

Hey Charlie, I've got Fran and Russell sitting here with me, they drove all the way up for the show!!! Where is it "Huh, Huh?" LOL!

Eric

Hallelujah! Lord I am not worthy!!
It's been in my pocket for 2 1/2 hours now, trying to get home to take some scans!!

I am giddy with excitement!!:D It is better than I had hoped!!!!!!!!!

This knife has a bunch of shelf wear, scratches on the bolsters and such, but if it's cut ten things in its long life, I'd be surprised!! And it's certainly never seen a stone!!! :D
My guess is 1910-1912!!

Off to the scanner!!!

So, the moment has come! What you are gonna see is the original crocus polish on the blade, and the etch. I'm mighty sure we now have an original grind to show us an historically correct blade.
On the back, as was the custom, the finish is what is called "glazed", a fine grind, where the lines are still visible. The knife locks up tight as a drum, with no wobble, and snicks open and shut like my Bose WT (a worthy yardstick).
Corrosion spots are minimal, but are good proof it ain't been touched by no stinkin' Drimel, Dramel, Dremel or Drumel!
The swedges and saber grind are true lines; man this knife blows me away!!
It's gonna be the centerpiece of my Empire collection.
For those newer-bies, Empire made these on contract for Shapleigh's, along with the same knife stamped "Empire". Tony Bose has the nicest Ebony Empire I've ever seen. Maybe Kerry will post it here for comparison!!
Without further adoo bedoo bedoo . . . . lookee, lookee, lookee!

I hope you can see the etch, as it is a beauty! And as usual, my scanner adds gouges and mung that just aren't there. ENJOY!!

Congrats, Charlie, on a fine piece of history. She's a beauty.
