A little OT... wood beauty shots

Over the last couple of weeks (perhaps longer), one forumite has been posting wood beauty shots on the Wednesday chat sessions. I mentioned last week that I planned to put up some beauty shots of my own... and it occurred to me... why waste time putting them in the chat room where few will see them? Why not post them here and let others show off some of THEIR as yet unused but beautiful wood?

So you may assume this topic is going to be picture heavy. Please feel free to post any beauty shots you have. Perhaps this will inspire some people to step away from the synthetics... just for a while. ;)

Never used synthetics in a knife handle, yet.

This one reminds me of Fiddleback... but the Board Horder had it labeled as Laurel Cherry.

Heres a a slice from a large block of dyed stabilized black ash burl i just got 3 sets of scales from. I could have squeezed 4 if i cut it thinner, which i should have.

Here is some Desert Iron Wood I have been saving for some special projects.
It is getting hard to come by.

Just posted these in another thread, but perhaps they work better here:

Hi David - no, not stabilized. I'm trying to get my head around a project for that piece, but haven't quite worked it out yet.

Roger, that Claro is exceptional! How big is it? I think an early Winchester model 12 diamond grade would look outstanding wearing that!

Thanks - it's an oversized gunstock board, so it's plenty big for some oversize bowie blocks. It's plenty thick, too. My wingshooting buddies all want to see it used on a custom shotgun - and they are all knife guys.

Getting close but still have a lot to do yet. Sorry about the crappy pics.

Scandi blade with some Aussie burl, and an old D2 RAT getting a facelift with some Elm Burl.

Heres some of my supply, lots of book matched pairs, lots of variety! Its nice for me to have choices in all my materials, it helps keep the creative (art) juices flowing, and knives on the bench. Ive been working alot of G-11 and micarta lately and my shop and lungs are yurning for some stabilized wood dust!:D Im a bearded respirator user so i always get a taste test :barf:! GHaile
