A little OT... wood beauty shots

I just checked Craigslist and found a guy in Shelton that is selling slabs of maple burl for $6 a BF with slabs that are roughly 2.5 feet x 3 feet, x 3 inches thick. He also has spalted maple burl for $8 a BF. Says they are good for table tops, but I have other ideas... if only Shelton was a bit closer.

This is a Black Oak Bunion I just slabbed.
The coloring is a lot different than the usual stuff.

Wow Mark thats some nice stuff. Whats the difference between a burl and a bunion?

The one on the left is what we call a burl.
There are pins on the exterior that show up as eyes inside the wood.
The one on the right is what we call a bunion.
Bulging growth that show more as swirly grain and some figure.
There are a lot of variations for both.

Mark - How will these be finally cut to shape? What will be the face and edge of the finished blocks?

That is some VERY intriguing wood you have there!!
