A Month Ago I didn't Own A Kershaw

Kershaw is the best bang for the buck when it comes to folders IMO.

I certainly agree with this...great knives at a value price.

The tip down carry is a deal breaker for me on the JYDs and I am not a huge fan of the large gap on the blade between the cutting edge and the handle, giving you less control and making the knife longer. It seems its a poor design that could easily be avoided as seen on their ZT line.

I absolutely cannot agree that JYD is a poor design. I find it to be excellant cutter and I don't feel any lack of tip control. I find the large blade in a small frame to be spot on. I will concede it is not a first choice for a push cut, but then I don't need to use it to stab anything. Do you own one or used one extensively?

Also with your concerns about recurves, I would suggest a Sharpmaker's tri-angle rods make problems sharpening a recurve a none issue.

Why so many import knives? Need more Kershaw USA models

draftpick, perhaps you should pick up a Kershaw catalog to see just how many USA models Kershaw has. Kershaw would like to offer quality knives to those who don't want to spend $30+ (internet price) on a USA-made knife. MUCH better choice than purchasing a S&W or a gerber! Also, Kershaw has made MANY more USA-made models for the upcoming 2011 year.

Couldn't disagree more. My Cyclones have a similar-sized gap/sharpening choil between the edge and the handle and I have never found it to be a hindrance.

I do have there catalog, 2010. But they are or have gotten rid of several usa models over the last year or 2 and have added close to 10 import models in the last year (Asset, compound, tremor, turbulence 2, vapor2, clash, volt2, tone) just what i can think of off the top of my head. How many usa models have they added? If they want to release a few cheaper models fine. I just don't like to see import models out number usa, and i think they have added more imports vs. usa in 2010.

I find it's a bit strange...I seem to hear lots of praise for Spyderco offering made-in-china budget knives (such as the Byrd/Tenacious/Persistence/etc series), but I rarely, if ever, hear praise for Kershaw doing the same thing. I personally don't like to buy made-in-china knives one way or another, it's just an interesting trend I've noticed.

2010 USA models off the top of my head. I might have missed some. Also there are variations of these models.

1000 OCC Anniversary
1425 Talon
1515 Random Task II
1780CB Rake
1790CKT TG1 Turbulence
2001 Rogue Auto
7000 Breakout Auto
3500 Speedform
3550 Speedform II
3600 Volt

As for imports, there are quite a few this year. Glad to see them too, I can't give all my customers Speedforms. :)
FWIW, the factories that produce Kershaw knives overseas are owned by Kershaw. They are not on a contractual basis like many other manufacturers.
