A Month Ago I didn't Own A Kershaw

I chanced upon a Kershaw K1760 Skyline two days ago and decided to get one.
I wanted to try this model with its Sandvik 14C28N steel (the blade looks bead-blasted to me) and single flipper.

The Skyline's finely checkered G10 handles, zero blade play, excellent liner-to-tang lockup, razorlike sharpness and its feathery weight at 2.3 ounces are some attributes I can say about it at this point in time.

I am looking forward to using it as my EDC in November.
Also, I am trying to get my hands on a Lahar (its slight recurve may or not be able to be sharpened freehand with a DMT Diafold sharpener).

SpeedSafe-based Kershaw folders are simply not allowed here (local laws) so my choices are rather limited but Kershaw seems to make the models that I want (liner-locks with Sandvik and VG-10), that being the Skyline and Lahar.

Some pictures of the Skyline.

You should consider a Junkyard Dog. It doesn't have the speedsafe assist.
Frankly my JYD is so fast to open it's hard to imagine why all Kershaw and ZT's are unassisted and built to the JYD's standard.

I'm still bonkers over my JYD.

The design looks good for sure, not surprising given that Tim Galyean the designer of the Junkyard Dog 1 and 2 also designed the Lahar.

I am used to thumbstuds on a folder blade, so I am rather concerned about not being able to close the blade quickly with my right thumb.

The pocket clip on the JYD 2 looks kind of weird, but I guess that it's a matter of individual taste.

Speaking of flippers, the Skyline does have a printed instruction sheet on the use of the flipper, it's fun to use the flipper but I wonder if flipping the blade to the locked position for a dozen times daily for EDC tasks can speed up the wear and tear of the blade tang and liner. This is something I have to personally experience myself.

Better order up that Lahar pretty soon. It was just discontinued... There may even be some good discounts on it around!

I just added the ZT0551 yesterday. I also got my STR lowrider clip for my G10 CB JYDII on the same day.

First off the ZT0551 is a most interesting knife. I like it but of all my ZT's and one Kershaw (I didn't keep the Rake and so I'm down to the JYD), I'm still most delighted with the JYD. This must mean a custom from Tim is in my future! :)

EDIT: I have two Kershaws...forgot the Tyrade in orange G10.

Have bought the Blur in all the different steel combinations just to have them all.

I've never been unhappy with any Kershaw product.

Also you may want to look at their lockbacks - absolutely beautiful as well as functional.

My first Kershaw was the Coral Creek lockback - still have it and I still marvel over its quality every time I use it.

I just gave the my 1st Kershaw, a Chive I bought in 2000, to my wife for her "purse knife". Since then I've acquired:
ET
Lahar
Outcast
Blur blem in s60v
Tyrade in black G10 config
Mini Cyclone (gave to bro in law)

Of all I'd have to say my favorite is the Blur, followed a close 2nd by the Tyrade. Seeing that the Lahar is disco'd I might have to find another because they are such an unbelievable value. I think my Lahar cost around $45, where else can you get VG10 & G10 in a 3.75" blade for that kind of money? I have other knives by other brands but my Kershaws get the most use. None of them are drawer queens.

I love them! The Nerve too. I'm waiting on the Asset, Compound, Tremor, Turbulence II and a bunch of others to become available.

I love the ZT's and Kershaws with the palm swell rounded handles. That's the way a handle is suppose to be IMO.

I love my leek, but I have to say that although they felt solid, the ZT knives have never appealed to me. They just feel big and cumbersome, not sure what their intended use is but it seems like there are a lot of other knives out there that are less overbuilt feeling that could get the job done in a more precise manner.

I've been wondering if that SV30 blur would fit that bill..

I feel ya on that note. I never have claimed to be a Kershaw guy but when I look at my pile of knives the number of Kershaws are getting larger all the time. Just plain outstanding knives. Very innovative designs and some great quality and strength for my needs!!!;) Nice herd you got their "Flatlander1963" those ZT's are second to none IMHO....:D

:)

What model ZT is that on the right third one down?

Kershaw is the best bang for the buck when it comes to folders IMO. Unfortunately all of the ZT line have had recurve blades until this 0550 so I will probably have to pick one of those up at some point.

The tip down carry is a deal breaker for me on the JYDs and I am not a huge fan of the large gap on the blade between the cutting edge and the handle, giving you less control and making the knife longer. It seems its a poor design that could easily be avoided as seen on their ZT line.
