Winners announced - post 65!
UPDATE: Thanks for all the complements, pics, stories and guesses of my favorite player. I've enjoyed seeing old gloves, memorabilia, beautiful places and wonderful faces. Keep them coming, and please enter! Even if you don't/want a wallet, enter for a knife or just give away the prize to someone who would enjoy it. It's fun and we all need more of that! Plus, it's fun for me to share something with all of you. Hint #2 is below is just before the pics. Have a great day everyone!
For the past few weeks I have been piddling with and trying to make an everyday carry item in my spare time. I have a few made at the moment and a few more in the works and wanted to offer a couple in a GAW here in the traditional section. If I don't some of these away everyone I know will be getting one for Christmas!
These are simple wallets made from old baseball gloves. I have bought most of the gloves at a relatively low price, taken them apart (it is amazing how much dirt can be inside one of these), cleaned them, flattened them (as much as I am able) and shaped them into wallets. They each hold 4-6 cards and a little cash (either folded in thirds and placed inside, or tucked behind the little strap across the front/back of the wallet) right now, but will stretch with time. The leather on most of them is ridiculously soft and supple. They are minimal and are not in any way fancy or meant to be. They are my trial runs and hopefully with time I will get a lot better - I have a long way to go!
Here are a few rules:
1. If you post in the traditional forum regularly, you are eligible.
2. If you can post a picture of your favorite knife with your favorite baseball glove you can enter twice.
3. If you are a moderator here and would like a chance, you may enter three times.
4. There are 12 items here for you to look at. You may pick one you'd like to have if you win. If you are eligible to post more than once, you may choose different items in each post.
5. I will ship anywhere and consider delivering in person if you live in a tropical paradise!
Knowing all that, if you'd like a chance at winning one of these, just say you're in and you're in. And be sure to give the number of the item you'd like to have if you are chosen. If you'd like to add any pics, I would love to see them. My daughter and I often browse these threads in the early morning while we wait on everyone else to get up and she is always fascinated by the pictures she sees - well, so am I.
*If you aren't interested in the wallets, and some of you might not be, that's not a problem. There are a few knives posted in this GAW as well. You might wish to enter for one of those.
***If you are the first person to guess my favorite baseball player in your post I will send you a mystery gift even if you don't win the GAW. I'll give a hint each day. You may take one guess per day. Look here each day if interested in seeing another hint!***
Hint #1. He played for two MLB teams during his career as a pitcher.
No correct guesses yet, although the players named were great and some of my favorites, I'm still waiting for someone to guess THE favorite.
Hint #2. He was a 6 ft (or taller) lefty who swung the bat right handed.
Hint #3. Made his MLB debut in the '80s. His pitching career wasn't long and some people may not even remember his career.
Well we have a winner with the correct answer! Thanks to Cory Hess, you all know who my favorite player is now - Dave Dravecky. Please send me your mailing info so I can out your prize for winning my trivia challenge. Thanks to everyone for some great guesses!
I will select a winner for the GAW by RNG on Sunday evening!
Thanks for taking a look.
#1. The first one I made. The stitching on the back is not straight. I learned a lot from this one!

#2. An older Spalding model. First attempt without a flap.

#3. Wilson catcher's mitt was used to make this one.

#4. Rawlings Don Money autograph model. The leather on this one is so soft it is crazy.

#5. The remainder of the Wilson Catcher's mitt

#6. This one came from the inside of the catcher's mitt. Some of the most beautiful leather I had was buried deep inside a catcher's mitt.

#7. Mystery wallet. A different style I'm working on.

#8. Another mystery wallet. Another different style.

Now for the knives…
#9. Used Opinel I modified. Now it is essentially a razor sharp box cutter. This is small but still has locking ring and is pretty cool. Has kind of a sheepsfoot blade. Bottom knife in second pic.

#10. Another used Opinel I modified. Great little knife with a neat and natural patina forming.

#11. New Opinel #6 Carbon

#12. Mystery knife - just a clue - not an Opinel or modern folder!
