Winners announced - post 65!

UPDATE: Thanks for all the complements, pics, stories and guesses of my favorite player. I've enjoyed seeing old gloves, memorabilia, beautiful places and wonderful faces. Keep them coming, and please enter! Even if you don't/want a wallet, enter for a knife or just give away the prize to someone who would enjoy it. It's fun and we all need more of that! Plus, it's fun for me to share something with all of you. Hint #2 is below is just before the pics. Have a great day everyone!

For the past few weeks I have been piddling with and trying to make an everyday carry item in my spare time. I have a few made at the moment and a few more in the works and wanted to offer a couple in a GAW here in the traditional section. If I don't some of these away everyone I know will be getting one for Christmas! These are simple wallets made from old baseball gloves. I have bought most of the gloves at a relatively low price, taken them apart (it is amazing how much dirt can be inside one of these), cleaned them, flattened them (as much as I am able) and shaped them into wallets. They each hold 4-6 cards and a little cash (either folded in thirds and placed inside, or tucked behind the little strap across the front/back of the wallet) right now, but will stretch with time. The leather on most of them is ridiculously soft and supple. They are minimal and are not in any way fancy or meant to be. They are my trial runs and hopefully with time I will get a lot better - I have a long way to go!

Here are a few rules:
1. If you post in the traditional forum regularly, you are eligible.
2. If you can post a picture of your favorite knife with your favorite baseball glove you can enter twice.
3. If you are a moderator here and would like a chance, you may enter three times.
4. There are 12 items here for you to look at. You may pick one you'd like to have if you win. If you are eligible to post more than once, you may choose different items in each post.
5. I will ship anywhere and consider delivering in person if you live in a tropical paradise!
Knowing all that, if you'd like a chance at winning one of these, just say you're in and you're in. And be sure to give the number of the item you'd like to have if you are chosen. If you'd like to add any pics, I would love to see them. My daughter and I often browse these threads in the early morning while we wait on everyone else to get up and she is always fascinated by the pictures she sees - well, so am I.

*If you aren't interested in the wallets, and some of you might not be, that's not a problem. There are a few knives posted in this GAW as well. You might wish to enter for one of those.

***If you are the first person to guess my favorite baseball player in your post I will send you a mystery gift even if you don't win the GAW. I'll give a hint each day. You may take one guess per day. Look here each day if interested in seeing another hint!***
Hint #1. He played for two MLB teams during his career as a pitcher.
No correct guesses yet, although the players named were great and some of my favorites, I'm still waiting for someone to guess THE favorite.
Hint #2. He was a 6 ft (or taller) lefty who swung the bat right handed.
Hint #3. Made his MLB debut in the '80s. His pitching career wasn't long and some people may not even remember his career.

Well we have a winner with the correct answer! Thanks to Cory Hess, you all know who my favorite player is now - Dave Dravecky. Please send me your mailing info so I can out your prize for winning my trivia challenge. Thanks to everyone for some great guesses!

I will select a winner for the GAW by RNG on Sunday evening!

Thanks for taking a look.

#1. The first one I made. The stitching on the back is not straight. I learned a lot from this one!

#2. An older Spalding model. First attempt without a flap.

#3. Wilson catcher's mitt was used to make this one.

#4. Rawlings Don Money autograph model. The leather on this one is so soft it is crazy.

#5. The remainder of the Wilson Catcher's mitt

#6. This one came from the inside of the catcher's mitt. Some of the most beautiful leather I had was buried deep inside a catcher's mitt.

#7. Mystery wallet. A different style I'm working on.

#8. Another mystery wallet. Another different style.

Now for the knives…
#9. Used Opinel I modified. Now it is essentially a razor sharp box cutter. This is small but still has locking ring and is pretty cool. Has kind of a sheepsfoot blade. Bottom knife in second pic.

#10. Another used Opinel I modified. Great little knife with a neat and natural patina forming.

#11. New Opinel #6 Carbon

#12. Mystery knife - just a clue - not an Opinel or modern folder!

Not an entry (not yet at least) but those look great! Are you thinking of making more edc pocket leather in the future? Please do. Maybe a pen/slipjoint carrier...? Or a cardholder with a small slot for knives? :D

What a great idea, Jennifer! Thank you. This isn't an entry but I reserve the right to change my mind.
This is what really caught my eye.
If you'd like to add any pics, I would love to see them. My daughter and I often browse these threads in the early morning while we wait on everyone else to get up and she is always fascinated by the pictures she sees - well, so am I.
That's what this is all about to me.
Here's a picture for your daughter.

For my first entry I would love #4. I think that may be the coolest wallet I have seen since my duck tape wallet from college. Now, I gotta go find my glove. Thanks for the chance Jennifer.

Till I get my glove here is a pic for the early a.m. viewing. It is one of the seven Van Gough paintings spread across the world. This one is located in Kansas. My wife is about 80 yrds from the painting in this pic.

Awesome give away. I have an old mitt that my parents bought me for little league when I was about 7. My parents were the "grow into it" type. They bought me a full sized softball mitt, so my fingers didn't even get past the palm of the mitt. I still remember my coach yelling at me to open my mitt up to catch the ball. I couldn't open it because the fingers of the mitt were empty. I went digging for that mitt to take a picture. I didn't find it, but I did find a little box full of cool old memorabilia from my past. Here's a picture of some of what I found (sorry for the cell phone quality):

The knife is my new 23 Pioneer in pioneer bone.

The ball is the game ball from our little league championship game when I was 10. I was never a star player, but in the championship game I nailed a clutch double that scored a couple of runs and made a big catch in the outfield that robbed the other team of what would probably have been a triple. We lost the championship, but I got the game ball. The coach had the whole team sign it for me. The years have faded the names quite a bit, but I still remember that game.

The beer steins are shot glasses that my sister brought home for me from Berlin and Paris when she went on a European trip after college. Not too sentimental, but pretty cool little "mugs".

The Zippo is engraved with my name and was given to me for standing up in my oldest sister's wedding. I found it still in the box, where it's been since 1992.

The coins are my unit coins from my time in the Army. The one on the right is from my Basic Training unit and the one on the left is from the unit I served in. And of course there's my dog tags.

I'll have my wife look for my old mitt when she gets home. She's the one that knows where things like that are.

I don't know who your favorite player would be, but I have a little bit of trivia for you. On May 30, 1922 the Cubs and Cardinals played a double header. In between games the teams traded Max Flack from the Cubs for Clifton E. Heathcote of the Cardinals. So, Max Flack played for the Cubs against the Cardinals in a morning game and then played for the Cardinals against the Cubs in the late game. Clifton E. Heathcote did the opposite.

I'd like to enter for mystery wallet #7, please.

Teaching the young one well Jennifer!!!:D

Here is a picture that I took of one of my favorite spots - for the daughter - or you :D :

My guess for the player is: Tom "Terrific" Seaver - NY Mets and Cincinnati Reds

Great give-away - by the way. ;)

I will get my glove out and give it a try for a second chance, when I find a little time.

For my second entry, and going for # 4 one more time, my high school glove. After 17 years it fits even better.

And a second pic for your daughter. My 18 month old lil girl picked this pic as her fav. We just had a litter of Coton de Tulears 8 wks ago.

I'm in, I'll go for 12 the mystery knife. Awesome GAW, never played baseball but here's my current favourite.

I'm in. Thanks for a great GAW. I don't use a wallet much but I love Sheepsfoot blades so I'm going for #9. I really like what you've done to the Opinels in #9 and 10 - I might have to try it sometime if I don't win one of yours.
Here's a holiday pic when we were in San Francisco Dec last year.

I'll play! I don't have anything baseball related but these are the gloves I use the most, together with what is fast becoming my go to hard-work-knife

Any of the leather pouches would be grand, be it mystery or otherwise. I think they look fantastic Jone!

Many thanks,

Paul

Nothing fancy, but te one I carry the most. Gifted to me by a forum member..(which makes it even more special to me). Plus, it is perfect centered and great snap!

I would like to go for #7 "mystery wallet.

Very interesting. I grew up in Chicago. Knowing the cubs I bet Max Flack lost them the morning game and then want ahead and beat them in the afternoon. They have a track record of that sort of thing.

I'm in. Thank you for the chance!

Lucky #7 for me! That opinel and all your wallets look awesome.

This is one of those amazing fun and interesting giveaways I have no power to resist.
I'm in for #8 and #6. Those wallets are fab and my sons were showing great interest.
In this pic you will see that the sport of Cricket takes precedence over Baseball in this country.
My youngest went and dug this old mitt out of the shed for a pic and that's an old old cricket bat that my grandad gave me when I first landed on these shores back in 72.
