A New Folder from CRK

I heard from Neil at Truenorthknives that the protos will cost 1500.00. The other will start to come out in October and maybe cost like the Sebenza

I like it. Got to admit I thought it would be quite a bit different than the Seb but it really is a new and improved version of the Seb. In the back of my mind I thought it would be a perfect Strider SMF if you know what I mean.

Any bets on pricing?

I say $395.

I'll say up and over $425. That blade has much more ergonomics and detail...
not too mention the new lugs, spacers, and cut grooves.

:DTHANK YOU for posting the pix!!!!:thumbup: I of course want one!! It is bigger than I was hoping for too. But, I STILL want one. I LOVE the looks of it.

I talked with Chris Reeve last night and got to handle the new folder (1/20 marked on the handle!) and it didn't seem much bigger than a large Sebenza to me. He said Harsey didn't have any input in this one so maybe another folder is in the works down the road. It definitely seemed stout and the checkering was nice and didn't get in the way (wasn't sharp). From the pics Dave posted it really isn't much larger than an Regular Large Sebbie and it felt great in my hands.

Also, I know this will be good news, Chris said he is working on a new umfaan (no date yet) but he has a good list of improvements to it that will make it even better, so all those holding their breath that it will be re-introduced, just keep holding and your time will come :)

Not sure if you read this, so just in case that you haven`t.......according to the CRK flyer they are numbered, and also sport the model name. Thats what will set them apart from the "regular" models.

Just taking a quick break before the start of show.

The first 20 protos are truly our first attempt at this design, and they are largely handmade knives. All of you in product development know that as a result of a true first prototype run, you discover all sorts of refinements to make, and the Umnumzaan development process is no exception. Chris and I both carry one, and we're getting a lot of feedback from that experience, as well as reactions from the show. All of this input will be considered for the production version.

BTW, with 1 hr to the official opening of the Blade Show, there are only 2 prototypes left -- they're flying off the shelf at $1020 (Yes, the production price will be considerably less than this amount . . .). We are quite honored by the positive response.

I absolutely love the new blade shape, but I'm not a big fan of the huge pivot. I guess I'll have to wait until I can handle one before I make up my mind for sure. doubt it'd ever win me over from my classic, though. fooj, if you get a second to answer: how easy will disassembly be, and how easy is the opening action with the thumbstud that close to the pivot?

Size-wise it does seem roughly equivalent to the large Seb. I will not speak to the lock changes as I'm sure Chris has made sure the new design is at least as good as the Sebbie.

I've never cared for double stud blades (of course my bad experience was with a CRKT knife, not a Sebbie) and the new ones seem to protrude a bit but, on balance, appear to be rounded.

I find the milled handle grid a bit busy but then I prefer the plain Seb to the decorated ones too.

Will I need a special tool to take down the knife? Is the raised pivot screw a design element? Couldn't it have been recessed a bit or something?

Not sure if I like the blade shape or not . . . have we gone from utility to fashion?

All in all, well made but not to my taste but it opens up a "tactical" market for CRK

Been waiting for this. Two questions - how soon? how much?
The thicker blade, the studs, the extra large pivot:thumbup::thumbup:
The blade shape, well:confused::confused:

It seems to me that Mr. Reeve listened to his customers. The design on both sides look like they'll definitely add to the "grippiness" of the knife & this one looks like it's more of a "hard use" folder than the previous ones (Not that a classic or reg. Seb. wasn't durable). I don't know why the need for the glass breaker, but it can be useful & if I'm not mistaken, aren't thumb-studs acting as stop pins aid in the stability of the blade if lateral pressure is put on the blade? With the thumb-studs acting as stabalizers & being wider, doesn't that assist in "prying", not that any of us would do that.

Me likes! Very cool how the lanyard doesn't ride above the scale. It looks like your thumb will land right on the checkering when you go to pull it from your pocket.

Anyone know if partial serrations will be available like on a Sebenza?
