A New Folder from CRK

I haven't posted for ages but I have to say I'm quite disappointed by this new folder.

CRK had a style, now they lost it. It looks like the "others".

Not for too long, I hope.

It will be very interesting to see how the feedback they receive impacts what the final version actually looks like.

The only downside is the tools to take it apart or sold separately. Price according to Mrs Reeve around $400.00. Knives should ship around September and Left Hand knives sometime after that. Larry

Whoa whoa whoa. Wait a second. Really? $400 for the tool. That better be one hellva tool. So I'm guessing that this knives is not designed for the military/LEO because not many of them can spend $400 for just the tool. The knife must be twice that or closer to the BLADE price of $1000+, right?

It's inevitable but I still think it's funny, that we get such strong expressions from people who haven't held the knife yet. And this version may see changes once they get some feedback on what works best.

Even as probably definite aspects like the glassbreaker and grid may be changed in later models. After all, look at the varieties of Sebenza we can choose from.

I would have liked to have seen a 4.0" blade and maybe a little thicker titanium handles, but I can live with what is there and I really like it, a lot! I have already emailed NGK about a preorder on this. Will be looking forward to this Fall! I'm sorta like you RL, as I like the glass breaker.

I am disappointed.

Now that T.K.C. is on board I don't feel as bad about my negative viewpoint.

I mean if the knife is designed as a rescue tool, fine, but don't add in the fact that you need a special tool to take it apart or tighten it, if there is no pivot bushing. Add on top of the price the stated $400 for the tool and the military/LEO/EMT/Fire will not buy it...they will most likely have to use a coat hanger or paper clip when they don't have the tool with them.

Basically, something just doesn't add up. If the tool is $400 and the knife is twice that (for example) then pffff order yourself a custom. Or three classic 21 Sebbies. Or....you get the idea.

no disrespect, but i think the glass breaker is a gimick, how times would you really use it. if i needed to break a car window i would use the butt of my sebenza. hopefully they'll leave it off...

Xcel, ease up on the price of the tool. Read the lines again and you'll see the $400 is the price of the knife. The price of the tool is unstated. He just ran it all together, as many people do, writing quickly and not separating their points clearly.

I handled the knife yesterday. Handle ego's and blade our very nice. I could do without the checkering on the handles.

Now...do you really think Chris Reeves would price the tool (to take it apart )at $400.00 and the knife at $800.00

I was looking forward to a new folder too-not that I`d need to buy yet another CRK folder just yet...... . ;)

That being said, I`m not too overwhelmed by the new one. I`m not much of a fan of the look of the blade spine-it just looks a bit weird to me. I wonder if there is some reason for it, or if its just for looks. I don`t like the glassbreaker either-it just doesn`t look appealing to me.

I`m not sure if I will get one of them......... .

I pretty much left my current opinion in the other thread. It no doubt will appeal to some, that's fine with me.

It does seem kinda puzzling to me. We have been offering suggestions for what we, the bread-n-butter customers who buy several sebs a year, would like to see for years, and then we get, well honestly, nothing of what we wanted.

That makes sense, thanks for pointing it out!
The tool at $400 would have been suicidal from a business point of view ;)

I have mixed feelings about the glass breaker, but it might come in as a useful tool.

It reminds me of a time when this lady in an SUV crashed into a row of cars and was knocked unconscious in her car. The doors were locked so a couple of us tried to break a window to make sure she was breathing. We picked up a rock nearby and began to bang on the rear side window.... when that didn't work we went to a larger rock... and a larger.... it finally took like a 5 lb rock 6 or 7 tries to break that glass (the car was a mercedes - don't know if that was a factor)..

The butt of a sebenza will NOT break automotive glass, your keys will not break automotive glass... it takes a LOT of pressure to break that stuff which means a high amount of force at a very small point and that's where the glass breaker comes in.

its been said by so many others but I too would like to chime in.

I don't like it, it deviates from the elegant simplicity and practicality of maintenance that the sebenza is famous for. It goes against many of the reasons people pay so much for a sebenza.

I have 10+ Chris Reeve knives (fixed and seb.) and I will not be adding this one to my collection. This makes the discontinuation of the regular seb. even more of a tragedy.

a) tool is included, I can almost guarantee that! C'mon, enough about the tool.
b) it is catering to an ODD segment - tactical, high end, expensive. Not sure it'll work.
c) Too fidgety - o-rings, ceramic here, ceramic there, all I can see are issues. Sure you can "replace" the o-rings, but why?
d) it doesn't flow, it doesn't look like CRK, it doesn't look right.
e) I won't buy one, and I am not sure it will compete with the Sebenza, if that's the goal.

Add another name to the disappointed list.

I do hope they come out with a smaller version.
I do like the checkering on the handle from what i see in the pics but will have to handle one to know for sure. I also really like the way the knife looks and the clean lines of the handle.

I think I'm ok with the rubber o-rings on the thumb studs.

I don't like the glass breaker.

I do like innovation Chris is employing on this new folder. I'm really looking forward to seeing how the ceramic ball bearing works with the lock.

Well, I am unsure what I think yet, I think I need to FF this one for a while before I can say anything.

I guess, I could always buy the 21 if I don't like it.;)
