A new look at the clip & the pivot

If you consider a 40 year old idea that the patent is about to run out on "innovation"...

Not a fan.
Whats this ''we?' Are you the designer/manufacturer/seller of this gadget?
If so, you might want to look into the membership rules.
Just FYI.
I can't just say "it's me".
This is me , an old folding knife user and my jeweler friend who helps me realize my crazy ideas)))

When I bought my first SNG CC 10 years ago, I ripped my pocket to shreds in two months on new jeans and have hated the clips ever since.
Now I feel the maximum satisfaction.
And I'll replace the clips on all the folding knives I have.

To close the topic of sales, if I have the idea to sell "bolts" for folding knives, I will provide it to professional sellers.
In this case, it's just a demonstration of an new idea that, in some form, may continue to develop.

And more.
Of course, I myself have a feeling that the clip lacks a locking pin that prevents the knife from being taken out in any position. But I took as a basis the commercially available clip, which is time-tested.
Basically, a stop pin is not very difficult to integrate, but it is the next step.

For now I will limit myself to tests for loss of a knife from fastening at different angles with loading.
I'll publish the tests.

I can see this for those who want to publicly display their knife as jewelry , but I prefer a low profile / CC .

Might as well go whole hog with a "Charlie Mike" style inverted carry BA fixed blade if you're going to open carry for show .:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Interesting idea. may appeal to the Spanish speaking individuals in my neck of the woods as they are usually seen clipping their knives to the outside of their pocket.

Here is the simplest stop pin, which stops the rotation of the "bolt" in the mount (thanks to the beveled hat) and, thus, completely fixes the knife in the mount.

I like having a clip. On most of my knives it helps me get some purchase on the knife to make deployment easier. Plus I like not having an extra piece I have to carry in order to carry my knife. I just clip it in my pocket and go about my business.

If it works for you I can appreciate finding a solution to a problem you had. Not something for me personally though. I don't like the idea of the knife dangling around outside (Same reason I never had a belt phone case or anything like that. My stuff needs to disappear in my pockets and move as little as possible. No pun intended)

Well, it's not a replacement for all the clips on all the knives.
It's just an alternative.

Honestly it looks like a neat way to carry in waist band down the pants.

But if you need to flip the knife to take it out you’re going to need some baggy pants.

Also even though the button won’t come out of the clip that captures it without turning upside down the exposed knife could easily push on something, (in the pic you showed maybe by sitting down) and then push the actual spring clip right off your belt/waistband.

It’s a neat idea, especially if I want to carry a heavy folder and have no pockets but I think the regular pocket clip is a far more elegant solution.

The prototype was designed for a heavy folder with a very tight clip that didn't go through the edge of the pocket at all. This has become the main driving force for innovation :D

The possibility of jumping off this clip from the belt, when pressing on the knife from the bottom - there is and I even partially caught once such a situation, in the near future I will make a plastic (3d printing) insert on this particular clip, which will not allow the belt to slip.

I understand. Like all my jeans have destroyed pockets because of knives. Honestly virtually all the damage is from the clip being on rough g10 scales and far far worse, waving knives open.

Honestly to anyone trying to decide between the linerlock and framelock version of a knife but think “the framelock is too much more expensive;”

Just spring for the framelock. Any money you would have saved by getting the linerlock you will spend on getting new pants.

If you live in a city where you ever have to be around crowds this thing will be a pick pocket’s delight.

Makes it 1000x easier.

And if I have time, I will certainly make my own clip (for bolt fastening), which will be finalized taking into account all the strict requirements of the owner of the folding knife.
With stop pin and other things))

My largest concern with this is the greatly increased possibility of the knife jostling itself open if not in the pocket itself, and at that point you might as well just put a clip on a slip case and call it a day. It'd be safer, have the same carry options, and protect the knife from scuffs. But it's always nice seeing folks trying to innovate in a mature market space.

That’s an excellent point.

I would hate to run or jump with a knife hanging on me like that. You’d have to really trust the detent.

Okay, so, not only am I going to see a 1000% increase in accidentally bumping into stuff with my knife, I’m also advertising exactly what I’m carrying, can’t jump without potentially opening the knife, and can’t sit down.

It’s a neat idea mechanically, but it seems entirely impractical. There’s the ghost of an actually viable product in there.
