A new look at the clip & the pivot

It’s like someone looked at a deep carry clip and said “yeah, but can I do the exact opposite?”

Sure to be the hot gift of 2019 for dudes who open carry while mowing their suburban lawn on a riding lawnmower while wearing jorts and long socks + running shoes. You know how you eschew the obvious pocketability of your smartphone by putting a drop-proof case on it and clipping it to your belt? Now you can do with a folding knife!

If you live in a city where you ever have to be around crowds this thing will be a pick pocket’s delight.

Makes it 1000x easier.

Well I would consider using something like that at work, where it's easier to grab a knife life that instead of reaching into your pocket, especially on a ladder.

I'm confused... if you're going to have something hanging off of your belt why not just carry a fixed blade?

There are plenty of sucky attitudes too. Don't quote off my posts to make jerky nonconstructive comments, please.

You don't like it, be like me, don't buy it.

Jerky is nonconstructive by nature though. All wobbly and stuff. Sure, it doesn't get moldy, but you can't build anything with it.

I like the out of the box thinking and design... but it just replaces one problem for another in my case. Sure, it eliminates palm hot spots and pocket shredding... but so does a fixed blade in a belt sheath. A fixed blade would be my choice in any situation where this would be appropriate.

I think we will agree on most stuff.

I apologize. I should have prefaced my comment with that this new idea will not work for me, it will in fact suck in that capacity. If one can't carry a fixed blade I'm not sure a dangling folder is the answer. To each their own.

While new ideas are welcome, they aren't free from scrutiny.

While this device is something that I could not use I commend the OP for thinking outside the box and doing something different.

OP,

Focus your product around the workplace. This is actually a pretty neat innovation for someone who uses their knife on a job site regularly. I can see a legit use for this, but, it's very niche and probably not viable.

Also, pretty incredible solution to your problem. Impressive.

:) Hah ! This could become the newest fad . Consider all those weird ridiculous art "knives " on Instagram etc . How can they show them off if they're hidden in a pocket ? Is that any more far fetched than people wanting rings and studs implanted in their privates ?

Yup, fixed blade if didn't mind displaying.

I don't even like my clip showing so I AIWB carry with the clip hidden behind my belt. EDIT- also completely stabilizes the 7oz Cold Steel beasts I EDC.

I understand. Like all my jeans have destroyed pockets because of knives. Honestly virtually all the damage is from the clip being on rough g10 scales and far far worse, waving knives open.

Honestly to anyone trying to decide between the linerlock and framelock version of a knife but think “the framelock is too much more expensive;”

Just spring for the framelock. Any money you would have saved by getting the linerlock you will spend on getting new pants.

I remove my clips and just sand the G10 smooth under the friction point - no torn up pants. Oddly, most of the good flashlight manufacturers seem to have figured this out years ago.

Who knows--perhaps this will end up being the next big thing. But I'd simply caution that it's much safer to be married to the process of finding a solution to a problem than it is to be married to a specific idea itself. Any other path that you can take to solve the problem better than your current idea should be viewed not as a failure of the old idea, but as an improvement in a continuous and iterative process of problem-solving that will (hopefully) culminate in something truly useful. Off-the-beaten-path thinking is a great way to come up with truly remarkable ideas, but many of them are bound to be remarkably bad in the process. But often some of those ideas can serve as inspiration for great ideas, too. Keep on running through the ol' Deming cycle to get ever closer to your intended functional target. :)

I don't know why but pocket clips and "junk" jewelry don't really seem to be comparable ;)

Always interesting to see new ideas. Won't work for me.

I only have one knife with G-10 left, which will be replaced tomorrow with brown micarta. I'm not concerned about ripping pants, everything else I own has smooth scales.

I live near Chicago, where just the act of carrying a knife is frowned upon. Advertising like that will draw police like flies on :poop:.

I can see this as something for those who carry big heavy folders and don't want to pocket carry.
But,I think a belt sheath work just as well and is more discreet.

To each their own, good luck with the product.

Tell you what I would like to see on the topic of carry, though: pants with sub-pockets (pockets nested within the main pockets) that let me clip a knife in them so that they carry securely without jostling around, but without displaying that I have a knife on me. For work, that would make my life a bit less stressful.

I bet there's some sort of in-pocket sheath for folders out there that does exactly what I'm looking for.

A decent homebrew solution is to just stitch a line of thread vertically through both layers of the pocket to make a partition. :)

i don't think this fits me for edc - mine carries fine in my pocket and i dont have issues with tearign up my pockets

i can see a definite usefulness when working with a tool belt, where I can't reach my pockets or belt anyways. and a folder gets "lost" in one of the pockets with nails or screws, etc.

I'm a no. Mostly because if I was not going to just have it in my pocket I would get a leather slide in sheath for my belt. Also the thingy that slides into the holster thingy looks uncomfortable.

Hello!
After 5 months of use, I can say that this is the best way for me to carry a folding knife.
I have already designed a new clip with 100% fixation, but I was distracted by the development of a custom adjustable pivot for Strider)))
