Ever since my car accident, I started carrying this hard-disc recorder by Sony. I had short-term memory issues, and I referred to it as "my brain." I've always been an advocate of journaling, and I find that my thoughts outpace my ability to type them out, so I lost many ideas. By having this with me at all times, I can hit record and blabber out my ideas, load the recordings onto my laptop, and then transcribe them.

I also find it's great for recording all sorts of sounds in the wilderness for later identification and/or study. It's one of my major tools for continuing learning. Does anyone else do the same?

I think faster than I type, too. I don't use one for the same application as you, but I use one to speak a paper for school. Then I just go back and type what I said. My papers come out a lot better this way.

I was looking at those HD recorders so I can "sample" daily life sounds and transfer them to my PC
For music creation
And so I can remember things I have to look up on the net:eek:
I would say there is at least 5 items/ideas/questions a day which I have to look up on the net
"Note to self===>Look up on Snopes.com about the scuba diver swept up by a fire fighting plane while he was snorkeling "

"Note to self===>Feed the tuna mayonnaise!!"
Bill: What if you mix the mayonnaise in the can, WITH the tunafish? Or... hold it! Chuck! I got it! Take LIVE tuna fish, and FEED 'em mayonnaise! Oh this is great.
[speaks into tape recorder]
Bill: Call Starkist!

Bill: Wanna know why I carry this tape recorder? To tape things. See, I'm an idea man, Chuck. I got ideas coming at me all day... I couldn't even fight 'em off if I wanted. Wait a second... hold the phone! Hold the phone!
[speaking into tape recorder]
Bill: Idea to eliminate garbage. Edible paper. You eat it, it's gone! You eat it, it's outta there! No more garbage!
Night Shift
Hehehehhehee

Does it save it as a ".wav" file??
Is there a jack for an external mike??
It looks nice and small and lightweight....

Not a bad idea. It's tough for anyone to remember exactly what happened especially in a time of crisis.

Now you just have to remember where you put it :)

I think faster than I type, too.

This is fortunate, because so many have it the opposite way and thus many internet forums get filled with thoughtless typing....

Thankfully most folks in WSS opted out of typing class :)

I don't go as far as to carry a dedicated tool for this, but I use my cell phone's recording function to achieve some of the same. It's pretty primitive, and the quality isn't the best in the world, but it's certainly enough for making quick notes and such.

Myright, it has a long lanyard and goes around my neck fir safekeeping. kgd, LOL!

Ya need to git yur ass to a doctor, your brain is small and rectangular and even has buttons on it. WTF? ;)

I have a very faulty memory and my wife bought me a digital recorder of some type. I forget where she put it. Mac

I had a usb port surgically installed in my head. ;) :)

Dude, when I finally get my SG, can I plug directly into your head? You got 1/4" jack or just 1/8"? I bet you'd rock with a Boss Distortion and a Dunlop CryBaby Wah-Wah in-line! :D

Don, I'd be too afraid to have my brain connected to ANYTHING you might control... :D

My mother told me once that if they cut my head open, little triangles would fall out all over the place...hmmm...a certain type of triangle she was referring to.

LOL!! You guys are funny.

Brian, I carry an olympus recorder EVERY WHERE I go. i use it for therapy on days when i feel low. Journaling is a wonderful method of both recording your thoughts and dealing with issues.
