A perhaps timely reminder to long time members and new folks.

Scammer or jackass, that is the question.

In the general population (France or elsewhere), I estimate that the number of jackasses is probably 50 times the number of scammers. After all, you have to work at being a scammer, plan for it, think about tactics, take the time to do it right. Being a jackass, however, comes naturally to many people. You can be born a jackass, but you have to decide to become a scammer. Beyond that, one can say that every scammer is also a jackass, whereas not every jackass is a scammer. Thus, the 50 to 1 ratio seems about right. I'm willing to admit that it might be 30 to 1, or even 20 to 1. Perhaps Steve Tall can do the research for us. In any case jackasses far outnumber scammers in any large population. And France does have a large population, whatever one might think of the country.

For those reasons alone, the guy is more likely an ordinary, run of the mill jackass.

Add in the fact that he did all this over a 12" Sirupati and threatened to spent even more time making Youtube videos, flying from France to the U.S., and so forth. Even if it was just bluff and bluster, it seems more effort than a scammer is likely to invest. A true scammer will just move on to the next scam. After all, he has to support himself, and a free knife here and there won't pay for his rent or drug habit.

It appears Mr France has laid down his sword. Admitted his threats and outburst were caused by anger.

He seems to have found reason, or as Yangdu suggested perhaps he visited the forum and read this thread.

At any rate it appears the situation is over and I'm glad of it.

I'll still continue to check youtube to make sure the anger doesn't rekindle but I think for now we're good.

Glad everything found peace!

Hanlon's razor is an aphorism expressed in various ways including "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity," or "Don't assume bad intentions over neglect and misunderstanding." It recommends a way of eliminating unlikely explanations for a phenomenon (a philosophical razor).

I resemble that remark. Glad this thing is being put to bed. I'm plumb tuckered out from being all rabidy and foamy at the mouth. Guess I'll go do a Bar Mitzvah or something.

He is keeping quiet now.
Still have to keep eyes on U tube post.
Thank you all for your concern and supports to HI and kamis

I'm just one small voice. I went online to look at kukri knives. I stumbled onto Himalayan Imports website. I got totally sucked into it. I enjoyed the history, the designs, the stories. I fell in love with uncle Bill and Yangdu's storied history. I was extremely saddened that he passed before I found their website. I purchased my first kukri, and a blem to abuse/play with. Since then I found this forum, and have purchased a few more kukri knives to boot, including an U.B. Special With more to follow. I have personally spoken with Yangdu on more than one occasion. She has always been the best I could imagine. I love and respect her for the person she is. As I said when started this, I'm just one small voice but it only speaks respectfully of HI and Yangdu!

Congrats Fat one! You came to the right place. Hope you enjoy your blades and welcome to the forum. HI built a company based on human decency, dignity, and tribal wellness at the forefront at all expenses. Welcome to the tribe and feel free to post any questions or concerns you have and by all means we love pics of your new toys and experiences!

Trying to answer questions and concerns on Youtube.
Linked a few to HI website.

edited to clarify:
there has been a lot of people interested about and wondering about HI on youtube. I pointed them in the right direction to find the web store and all the HI info.

Thank you bawanna for your stand, with your help I have spoken with Yangdu when I had a minor issue and I can't believe how eager to please Yangdu is. I got my order plus a free 9 inch kukri on top of it as an unnecessary gift. I wish most vendors of fine goods were as dedicated to their customers. She needs to understand there are people out there who have evil in their hearts and cannot be made happy! I have nothing but love for Yangdu and will order a new Kukri very soon just to show support. Give her my best!

Much like life, your always going to find someone that is impossible to please no matter what you do. All you can do is try. If that fails and you still have someone not happy then that's ok. Your cup is "half full" I think so you just have to keep that chin up and get back at it. The largest Train that ever derailed still , in time, got put back on the rails and proceeded !

I learned the truth about Himalayan Imports (and Auntie Yangdu herself especially) when there was a problem with the shipping on my CAK and she sent another one before the first one even got found. Turned out to be USPS's fault and not hers, but she went out of her way to make it right. I doubt many companies/dealers/makers would ever offer to go that far for a customer when the fault was not theirs.

I'm a believer and a fan for life. The knife is, of course, wicked. Mr. French, poor show on your part fella

This was a post I made back around Christmas of 2007. I still have the little Grand Baby Chitlangi, and it's kind of a tradition here to use it around Christmas time. (It's a great walnut cracker. Works on Filberts too. ) I know it wasn't necessarily a high-dollar item, but the her gesture of gifting me that knife was a show of kindness that I felt gratefully humbled by. I try to pay it forward every once in a while here on BF.

Auntie Yangdu has always been the nicest, most pleasant vendor I've ever dealt with.

*******************

Part I: Ordered a grand baby chitlangi on Friday, it shipped Saturday, and got it today! It's my 2nd HI khuk, and boy, what a piece. This thing is everything that H.I. has been made out to be. The spine of the blade is at least 5/16"+, so it's a real worker. I especially like the way it makes my little knife drawer smell - can't beat that nice wood & leather smell of a new knife.

Part II: Included with the knife was a postcard, showing a Nepalese (sherpa?) on top of a mountain. I assume Everest, maybe? Anyway, I turn the card over, and there's a note from Yangdu, saying that the Yahoo site couldn't process my card, and to keep the knife as a Christmas present! Well, I called the bank, raised he!! over it, and they said they couldn't see any problems. They also don't see any of my other online purchases over the last several days, so no one knows what's going on. Figures.

So, I call Yangdu, and tell her that I can go ahead and send a money order today. She insists that everything is ok, to go ahead and keep the knife as a Christmas present from HI. She said it may an issue with Yahoo, and she was glad to just let me have the knife. I told that her that in that spirit, I'd accept it as a gift from her and HI, and that I was very grateful for her gesture.

I tell you, guys, if there were more folks like Yangdu in the world, it would sure be a much better place! After dealing with the twits & trolls at the bank for twenty (fruitless) minutes, talking with Yangdu was such a pleasant experience.

H.I. won a customer for life today, and I'm sure I'll more than make up for this one in the next year.

thx - cpr

She's definitely a class act but no need to tell most folks here that. Pretty common knowledge. Thanks for sharing your story though, many of us no doubt have similar stories. Several in my case.

Many several in my case too, I doubt we the only ones.

he might be a parisian. a french friend i worked with once told me that the french, in general, do not like foreigners, and the parisians even more so. .

Hmm, wish they had told us that when our troops died to save them from Hitler.

Gently, gently. We don't need embittered political comments.
Anyway, would you rather we fought the war over there or over here?

How about when French troops came to America during our Revolutoon and some of them died to help us fight King George?

When stumbling across HI for the first time I think there are a lot of questions one might ask themselves. This is ordinary for online purchases when the buyer ha not seen or used the product. Dare I compare it to gun buying, where you are forced to make a gamble based off what you know about it rather than experience, unless of course you've used the same model before the purchase. Knowing exactly what your getting before you et it can be tricky. But as mentioned, all needed information is written through out HI.
It is unfortunate that someone will go such great lengths to prove something such as our friend Mr France (as banawa calls him) did. Such an ugly thing to do to a close knit community and especially Yangdu. It true, I can see there is at least one time auntie helped each one of us. She's done more than enough for me without wanting in return. My first phone conversation with her told me a lot about her phyche. A couple years later here I am viewing all this as if it's still new (seems as if it may as well be). I'm sure mr France got caught up and ruined himself more than anything else, jeopardizing his own well being. I'm not sticking up for him whatsoever, I'm merely proclaiming who really came out on top here and how important it is to not ruin our own health from one who seeks disruptions.

As for the subject topic of France in general, Gaul have Rome a hell of a time at certain points in history. Not so much in others. Full of celts, an eventually Germans to form Francis, and pillaged and settled by the Normans. Perhaps even more, charlamaignes france stopped Islam from entering any further into Europe from the Iberian peninsula, and did what they could in the Great War.
Which is so far from topic in going to wrap it up

I'm sorry to the smiths auntie and anyone else who tried to subdue the dumbjackasshole (excuse my French), even as it has nothing to do with me, only attempting to express the idea that the situation is bad but will allow it to be better off eventually I believe.
