Although they have been tapering out to a mere trickle lately,
the general dislike is still there on Cold Steel knives.
Well I'm here to try and change that!
Ive read some good stuff. Ive read some bad stuff.
But here. ONLY GOOD STUFF please! If you dont like them, thats fine :). Different companies for different people. Im not here to force your opinions towards them, Im trying to make a thread here for Cold Steel fans, or just people who carry them.
Not necessarily "fan-boys", because no-one is better than the other. This isnt a Cold Steel advertisement!
So, keeping it POSITIVE, lets see some pictures, and hear some "stories", of your Cold Steel knives!
Heres mine:

Not really much of a story, but here's how I became a cold steel fan. I used to buy only benchmades and spydercos, and trashed CS for reasons that other people said. Then I saw a Recon 1 (triad) for sale for pretty cheap on the sale boards here (maybe 35 or 40), and once I held that in my hand, I was dumbfounded by the excellent ergos and solid lockup. Upon using it, I realized how excellent AUS8 could be (which I previously trashed on this forum) and how great a well made hollow grind could be (which I had trashed as well). Now two years later, I own more CS than any other brand.

Lessons learned:
-don't bash something until you have tried it
-buy what you like, not what others like and what others say you should like

My (older version) ultra-lock AK47 has been my go-to knife for all the renovations on the our house and yard. Whether limbing out a branch or cutting insulation...it has never chipped out or let me down. Just apply edge to Sharpmaker and all is back to factory fresh.

well it's already negative so as of the second post this thread is exactly like all the others. Can't we go a single day without a Cold steel vs. every other knife company thread?

Cold steel...Whats not to like??....probably the best bang for buck knives on earth!!.....heres my fully bastardised GI.TANTO...ive probably abused this knife more than all my others in toatal.....cant praise it enough for the $20 it cost..........FES

I love my 2010 recon 1 clip point. Super smooth, very tight lock up, perfectly centered, very light. All in all a fantastic knife.

Cold Steel makes a good product. I have a CS Recon 1 folder. I have batoned it through a piece of firewood about 14 times, to make some kindling, just to see if i could do it. It held up, but was VERY loose. I tightened all the screws back up & it is like new & i still carry it to this day. I also have 2 CS Trail Masters, a few hawks & a Bushman Bowie. I have batoned with them as well. No issues. Their knives have all been razor sharp. My daughter has had a Large Lawman for a year & i still have not had to sharpen it. In fact, it just cut someone last night, pretty good i might add. He was supposed to be "experienced" with knives. I warned him over & over, that everything i own is razor sharp. He now knows i wasn't lying !!!

I like my CS knives and there are several others that I am interested in buying. I don't get into the company bashing.

I like their videos where they push their knives beyond normal limits. I don't know if I would do that with my knives or not but it is good to see what the knives are capable of. I have yet to see other companies doing the same testing.

How so? There was no "versus" comment made in the second post. The guy said he basically went with the drone mentality as to what to buy and what to talk s**t about, then when he got his hands on a CS knife he reversed his opinion.

I predict this to be a short-lived thread...

So far, the only negativity here is coming from you guys. Yes, I too am tired of the Cold Steel v. Everybody Else threads, but this isn't one of them. Yet. Let's not turn it into one, OK?

Do you work for Cold Steel or have stock in the company? lol. I was always interested in one of those trailmasters but its to expensive for my taste.

I've been pretty happy with all of my Cold Steel products. So far I've got several of their Sure Strike throwing stars, which are great fun to use. Light ones stick way more easily than the heavy ones, which I was surprised by. Got a couple hawks (pipe and spike), the kobun, which is nice and slicy, and worth the paltry amount I paid for it easily. Love my Peacekeeper 1, which is my favorite CS to date, until I get a Tai Pan (if I can find one at a price that doesn't make me just want to buy a custom knife instead), and a long assegai, which I need to sharpen, because it came dull. Still great value though. Good quality spears that are any kind of durable are hard to come by from any other company. The only product I regret buying is whatever that little boot dagger is (hold out 2, maybe? Can't remember what it's called). Wasn't a big fan of the grind. It's just kinda weird. It's still well made, but I just don't like the grind. Did I mention those throwing stars are very entertaining? Definitely recommend.

Just wondering...if all "knifemakers" are allowed on this forum, (providing membership) or whatever it calls for, why hasn't Lynn "uncommonly strong hands" Thompson, or partners have been here to stick up for all the hate that this forum provides. Just a thought? Just seems kinda ridiculous that we wait for "fanboys" to start/defend any topic about them....seems kinda like an uphill battle to me, but for an acctual COLD STEAL employee to chime in might bring some much needed light.

Well, they're one of those companies that "review comments before posting" on videos. If you get my drift.

That's not saying anything about the knives. A lot of their knives are truly beastly. A lot of the folders, the machetes, things like the TrailMaster and the Recon Scout, the Bushmans and the Pocket Bushman. All strong stuff especially for the price. They need to be, with that crummy warranty. Lol to recap, knives good, company bad.

One does not simple post in a forum and mandate that everyone praise a specific company...

Forums are for discussion. If you have a knife you like that most people don't, that's fine, but there's no reason to try and push it on others. And if you really do like your knife, you shouldn't need validation from a select group of others that share the same opinion. Someone tried to do that a few months ago with Gerber, didn't turn out too well. This tends to be a touchy subject, so why stir the pot? There are a lot of people here who don't like Cold Steel, and I'm sure the alternative, a "post only negative opinions about CS" thread would be quite popular, but you don't see anyone bringing that up.

A funny thing, I used to like their older Tuff lites better than the new ones. I'm sure the new ones are better, but I like the looks of the older stuff more.

I confess that I have nothing bad to say about Cold Steel knives. Here are my current favourites:

I've owned many of their folders going back to the mid-90s & have never had any issues with them. They tend to be well-made, overbuilt, things. I (& plenty of others) can't stand the black stuff they put on the Recon 1 & AKs. Here's some pics of my buddy's folders after I removed the black stuff & polished them up with Flitz: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jeffphansen77/ My pics suck. They look better in person (or with better pics, as Mika's shots show). Plenty of folks wish they'd offer satin finishes on more models. He carries the Recon 1 as his main work knife. He tends to be real hard on everything he owns but it's still going strong with no play.

They've really stepped it up since Demko got on board & drug a lot of people off the fence or converted them. The anti-CS sentiment was once worse than it is. They have gimmicky marketing designed to appeal to non-knife nerds & it turns a few people off around here. Not using higher-end steels puts them beyond the pale for a few as well. The marketing worked for them & the knives are good, so I'm all for it. They have their own forum if you're that big of a fan. I'm currently waiting on a couple of Voyagers I sent out to have rescaled. The new Voyagers are a steal at $40 & I alternate yet another Voyager with my Byrd Cara-Cara as my work knife.

And FYI: Fans of companies you don't like are "fanboys". People who don't like the companies you do are "haters". Ignore the rudeness & negativity & don't waste time trying to convince people who have made their mind up & aren't asking for other's opinions. It's a hobby we do for fun & nothing hinges on differences of opinion here.
