A positive twist on a negative thread topic.

I'm carrying my first Cold Steel knife - a Micro Recon 1. This was my first go at a keychain knife, and it was cheaper than the Ladybug 3. Quick, one-handed deployment, especially if it's on the key ring so my ring and pinky fingers can grasp the ring - just a flick of my thumb.

(only pic I have of it, below my BM Mini Rukus and Nathan kit knife)

Funny story - I was at a kid's birthday party last Saturday, and I pulled out my Micro Recon to cut something open. One of the kids running around stops in front of me, looks at my knife, and whips open this thing:

II have owned ‘more than many but not as much as some’ Cold Steel and have been happy with there products. There isn’t anything magical about them and there isn’t anything totally horrible about them either. Only one ever failed but what can you expect when you use a Bird and Trout Knife as a Thrower? Like any Company that has it manufacturing done physically half way round the world from their headquarters there can be problems with QC and Communications.

I will give them props on the Latest Catalog and the Apparent New Direction in Print Marketing. It is Much less Braggadocios than in the past. Now my biggest problem is that as a Company they are the first to ballyhoo their successes and triumphs (even before the eggs have hatched) and the last to admit a misstep (and there have been a few). They are keeping pretty hush hush about delayed product deliveries and material

Hopefully they will continue to mend their Broken Cooperate Image. They have gotten to the size where LCT’s Warrior Lifestyle and the way it pervaded Customer Service became more of a liability than an assist. Cold Steel was guilty of letting the “Sizzle” of the Warrior Lifestyle become more important then they “Steak” in the Customers real life experience and use.

As far as their Web and YouTube stuff? If they want to push the Zombie go Boom and the Car Hood go Boom stuff that’s fine with me, It harms no one. But I don’t think it sells real well to the more serious knife buyer.

If anything this years line up from Cold Steel has been too influenced by outside forces. How many Micro and Mini knives does the world need? How much kitchen grade steel needs to be made into fighting or camp knives? IMHO when it come to the knives themselves Cold Steel does make some real value but they just lose focus sometimes.

I have nothing specifically against cold steel, they just aren't my thing. I like clean lines and top quality materials and construction. There really just aren't any cs models that fit those requirements. I guess they just usually look too much like weapons for me to carry one on a day to day basis. With that said, they make excellent around the house/yard beater knives. Sturdy and strong and cheap enough that you can literally thump on them til they break and throw them away.

Some people would ruin a wet dream!! The op didn't mandate anything. He said please post only good or positive stuff toward Cold Steel. It's his thread. Out of respect to the op if you have nothing good to say then there's no need to post anything at all.
Thank you. :)

That's not really a positive twist so much as a gag order on anyone with a differing opinion. And that doesn't work in a forum where everyone is allowed to express their opinion. Cold Steel supporters seem to have this weird mentality that only their opinions should count and anyone who thinks differently should shut up. Look at the other recent CS thread: as soon as opinions started to turn mainly against CS, CS fans started calling for the thread to be closed. To extend your logic a little further, I doubt anyone would have "respect for the OP" if someone went to Whine and Cheese to start a thread calling for only positive opinions about Justin Bieber, or to use a much closer example, posted this exact thread about Mantis. Are we uncivilized for recommending a Smatchet to an OP who expressly asked that we not recommend it? Not everyone has the same opinion; flaunting yours on a public domain and then crying out for civility and order when anyone disagrees is just inviting trouble. And I haven't said anything negative about CS; I just disagree with the premise of this kind of thread. If the OP likes his knife I'm happy for him.
Im not doing anything. Im not pushing anything. Im not saying "screw anyone who hates CS. I get it. Im not trying to make anyone like them. Im seeing alot of civility here. Alot more people like CS than i think. If you dont like them, why are you on this thread? you seem to be trying to muck it up.

Ive heard of this a few times.. didn't this just happen to bladeboss? With his old AK47?

I think originally it was 1 year for folders? And they fixed his folder from at least 3 years ago
:) nope. It was a new Mini AK-47. My new one is excellent. They were very friendly on the phone, and worked fast. :D

my mistake then. For some reason I thought I remembered it being an axis style lock then.

Again, I am glad it worked out good for you

Shhh. Let the big boys worry about that. Not your problem.

(I just had a nice chat with Spark about this thread.)

I've got a laredo bowie and several of the hawks. The bowie is well balanced and holds a good edge. The hawks are one of the best bangs for the bucks around. Great fun and very useful. I've had a couple of the folders that didn't do anything for me but they were cheap. For the most part I like some of the lineup and don't like some of it. Pretty much like any other company with a broad product base.

FSS, you got a nice collection going on there, but what is that POS "TACTICAL SERIES" doing in the bottom left? :p

Bladeboss,

Thank you.

I like large folding knives. I grew up using large blades for work; sometimes folders and sometimes large Fixed Blades provided by the Boss.

I never think of a knife as a weapon.

CS makes more large bladed folders than any other company that I know of.

I own more than 10 Cold Steel knives. They are always sharp out of the box.

I have used many of these knives for hard work. I know nothing about their warranty, because I have never had a Cold Steel knife fail.

I would like to have seen more pictures of the newer large models because I have not kept up with their new releases.

Nice try for civil discourse.

Mike H.

LOL! I think we went down this path in another forum before didn't we?? That was given to my by a guy that was in the Special Forces in Nam. You are Right it is a POS knife (same knife as the one just to the left of the Pocket Bushman) but it was the thought that counted and part of the money that it's sale generated goes to support vets (SOA??). I met him in Texas when my son was fencing in the Junior Olympics. He was married to one of my wife's HS classmates. Great stories, photos and scrapbooks. He was the genuine article so I keep the knife unopened in honor of the service he gave our country even though the knife truly is crap.

Thank goodness for this thread. There was too much whining, moaning and sniveling about CS.

Cold Steel products are well made, well engineered knives at a good price. Lots of good choices for the serious knife junkie.
