A positive twist on a negative thread topic.

One does not simple post in a forum and mandate that everyone praise a specific company...

Forums are for discussion. If you have a knife you like that most people don't, that's fine, but there's no reason to try and push it on others. And if you really do like your knife, you shouldn't need validation from a select group of others that share the same opinion. Someone tried to do that a few months ago with Gerber, didn't turn out too well. This tends to be a touchy subject, so why stir the pot? There are a lot of people here who don't like Cold Steel, and I'm sure the alternative, a "post only negative opinions about CS" thread would be quite popular, but you don't see anyone bringing that up.
Some people would ruin a wet dream!! The op didn't mandate anything. He said please post only good or positive stuff toward Cold Steel. It's his thread. Out of respect to the op if you have nothing good to say then there's no need to post anything at all.

Exactly. Hey, I'm no fan of Cold Steel either, but at least try to act like you're civilized.

I have one on me right now

That is a VERY nice mod! If you could strip the black off of the blade, it would be perfect!

Well, they're one of those companies that "review comments before posting" on videos. If you get my drift.

That's not saying anything about the knives. A lot of their knives are truly beastly. A lot of the folders, the machetes, things like the TrailMaster and the Recon Scout, the Bushmans and the Pocket Bushman. All strong stuff especially for the price. They need to be, with that crummy warranty. Lol to recap, knives good, company bad.

Just what is "crummy" about their warranty?

Warranty: We stand behind our knives and swords 100%. We subject them to the highest standards in the industry and strive to make each as perfect as possible. We warrant that our folding knives, fixed blade sheath knives, and swords are free from defects in workmanship and materials.

This warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, re-sharpening of the blade, damage caused by misuse, lack of normal maintenance, or disassembly.

Remember any knife or sword can break or fail if subjected to sufficient abuse, so please do not use our knives and swords inappropriately and remember no knife or sword should be used as an axe, hatchet, screwdriver, or pry bar.

That's not really a positive twist so much as a gag order on anyone with a differing opinion. And that doesn't work in a forum where everyone is allowed to express their opinion. Cold Steel supporters seem to have this weird mentality that only their opinions should count and anyone who thinks differently should shut up. Look at the other recent CS thread: as soon as opinions started to turn mainly against CS, CS fans started calling for the thread to be closed. To extend your logic a little further, I doubt anyone would have "respect for the OP" if someone went to Whine and Cheese to start a thread calling for only positive opinions about Justin Bieber, or to use a much closer example, posted this exact thread about Mantis. Are we uncivilized for recommending a Smatchet to an OP who expressly asked that we not recommend it? Not everyone has the same opinion; flaunting yours on a public domain and then crying out for civility and order when anyone disagrees is just inviting trouble. And I haven't said anything negative about CS; I just disagree with the premise of this kind of thread. If the OP likes his knife I'm happy for him.

Way I see it, he wanted to hear some good stories people had about their CS products. Negative comments would just be plain "off topic". He wasn't asking for recommendations or anything

What DOES their warranty cover, exactly? And I believe it is only a five year warranty? In comparison to other companies with similar price points, it is a pretty weak warranty. That being said, I have yet to put a dent in my Voyager XL, or my Kukri Machete. Apples to oranges. But look at it this way. With an overbuilt knife, it is bound to last for years and years. Giving it a lifetime warranty is almost an afterthought if you know the knife is super tough. But giving it a short warranty ensures that when it finally does break, you'll be forced to buy another.

As for my CS knives...they are definitely worth the money of the original purchase. And I have had my eye on a Recon Scout for a very long time. I don't think most of this bad hype is product based, so much as it is based around presentation and customer service.

No, they changed it as can be read there is no time limit on it now.

First I've heard of this. Have they changed their customer service so they don't use a time limit, or did they just change the wording of the warranty? Have you heard of anyone sending in an older knife and getting warranty service?

Ive heard of this a few times.. didn't this just happen to bladeboss? With his old AK47?

I think originally it was 1 year for folders? And they fixed his folder from at least 3 years ago

Like I said there isn't a time limit now, they took that out.

If that's the case, then I applaud that move. I still find Lynn and Co. to be a little cheesy, but like I said no one can deny that they are serious knives, and a lot of their products fill niches that other companies do not. I'm a nerd at heart, got my start from crappy swords and knives, I watch anime, watch action movies. So yes, a part of me likes that they aren't afraid to give in to that fantasy side and make usable, "out there" weapons and tools. My actual purchases are usually based on how serious a knife is and if it actually has a place in my work load, but that's just my way of doing things.

Good, so now the bandwagon disinformation guys can hopefully remember this warranty development. I remember a few years back a guy was on here who happened to be a large animal veterinarian. He was called to do a necropsy (autopsy on dead animal?) and he used a CS Long Hunter to BATON through the breastbone of a cow. He posted pics of the mangled (knife wasn't broken!) edge and his story of CS customer service. They sent him a new knife. It was a clear case of gross abuse. I HIGHLY doubt some other praised companies around here would have done the same. So what it was a $14 dollar knife, they went above and beyond.
