A Question About Your Collection

Hey all!

So, I was sitting at my desk doing a little sharpening and looking at my knife collection. My whole set lives on the upper shelf of my desk, and it's not very extensive. However, behind the small size, I realized something else today: there isn't any theme or cohesion, either.

It's a mixed bag of fixed and folders. Carbon and stainless. Wood, G10, micarta and frn handles. Everything from 5 inches to 9 inches.

I don't see this as a problem or anything, as I really love all of them, perhaps in part because they're all so different. But it made me wonder what other people's collections look like. Do you stick to a theme, style, manufacturer or anything else? Or do you just acquire on a whim?

Let me know! Pics welcome! I'll try to post a pic of my whole collection tomorrow.

Over the years my collection has changed. I've settled into three primary areas. 1) Mammoth scaled/handled 2) Stag scaled/handled 3) Folding modern tactical. I also have a few fixed blades. I am also partial to Wharncliffe blades.

I have a cool 7-drawer case next to my easy chair so I can fool with them and sharpen them. I also have a shop area and more knives there and my belt drive.

Lots of GEC stuff there EyeDog. Looks like you're a regular KSF customer with their Northwoods mammoth and fossil ivory.

I would simply not concern myself about your "collection" and simply call it your knife accumulation. Just have fun and get what you like.

My accumulation is quite varied, but I tend to like 4-4.25" traditionals (closed) and generally Trapper or Jack knife patterns, moderns with up to about a 3.5" blade, and fixed blades of varied lengths. I tend to like to use fixed blades in the 4-5" blade length range, but I own stuff both larger and smaller.

Mike,

What's that next to the Wall Street button? White scale with the six brass fasteners.

Op, I too have a bit of an odd collection. I seem to just buy things that I think are interesting or just plain good looking. Here recently I've been gravitating toward a more fashion conscious trend I guess. Having accessories, like knives, pens, lights, jewelry that not only compliment eachother but my wardrobe as well.

I wouldn't recommend it though. Pain in the ass.

Most of my collection is like yours, more of an Accumulation of knives and bladed items of every sort.
But within the large Accumulation are small mini-collections of various brands that I found appealing and wanted more of.
And outside of the Accumulation is a serious and significant, although incomplete, set of original USA made Old Timer pocketknives, a true Collection.

Despite the incomplete Collection and mini-collections that could be added to at any time, most of my purchases are further Accumulating. :)

EyeDog...nice collection.

I don't have any pics, but I still have a few nice fixed blades...Alan Davis, SurviveKnives, and a couple more.
Folders? mixed bag...CRK's, lots of Spyderco, some BenchMades, usually a ZT, Strider, Gareth Bull, Jim Burke Rockstar..plus..

Almost all my stuff is black G10, bead blasted Titanium liners, and an uncoated, blasted ATS-34 blade. There's a couple blades in high polish damascus. Everything's a liner locked manual folder with the occasional front opening automatic here and there. I like the older stuff.

I have a pretty random set myself, but I do have a collection of Kershaw Blurs, as well as little cheap lady leg folders, and been keeping my eye out lately for vintage traditionals made in Germany or USA, and also seriously considering the Boker 145th anniversary limited series, (just bought my 1st one the other day)

There really is not a theme to my collection. It's not really a collection. Maybe someday it will be, but for now it is mostly just an accumulation of knives I find useful. For the most part, knives that are not sentimentally important to me, or are not used get given away. The one theme thus far is probably a predilection for knives designed by Bill Harsey, I've got four of them. I also have two Lone Wolf knives and two made by Fantoni, but one of those knives fits into both categories ;)

Apologies for the crappy cell phone pic, the real cameras are packed.

Edit: Oh yeah, another mini-theme, two of the knives are from Eyedog :)

I have a few modern style folders (one Spyderco, two Kershaw, three Boker) but my collection theme is predominantly folding slipjoint knives made in traditional styles and patterns. Within that I don't have a narrow theme (like "only carbon steel" or "just stockman patterns"). The majority are Case knives, with GEC and Victorinox being the next most prevalent brands, and a few other brands. Sorry, no pics of them all to share.

Yes, I try to keep Derrick, Jason, Tyler and the crew happy. [emoji51]

I dig that collection, EyeDog. Solid theme, yet all of the pieces are different and have their own identity.

Is that a brass bolster on that Barlow?
