A RAT Pack reward idea

RAT cutelry has great customer service, and its really easy to get a hold of them. I certainly hope collectively as consumers and users of their product we respect the effort it takes to be available to us, and not wear out our collective, proverbial welcome.

I want RAT to make Rowen heat treated and polished 1095 mud flap girls, then personally ingrave my RAT pack number on her buttocks. Yeah, when can that happen :D. (making light hearted jokes no offence to anyone)
 
Sounds like a great idea but truly a headache to execute. It'd be just a big hassle. Though it'd be very cool to have a set with matching numbers but I don't think it's needed, they are tough working knives, not really collectibles.
It'd pretty much need a whole different person to organize the whole thing, other mods seem to be pretty packed with tasks.
There would also have to be a zero tolerance procedure, for example like this:
The first batch of 100 is made, RPers from 1-100 would be contacted via email to provide the shipping address and make a payment within a week to claim it, the knives that haven't been claimed within the given time, will be released to the open market.

1. I would imagine they understand not all our talk is too serious, and you never know where ideas may go. I am new here, but know there was recently a small out of the blue thread that might just lead to a wonderful folder someday. As business owners small ideas regardless of how crazy sometimes lead to bigger and better ideas. I really doubt this idea has caused more than a mili-second chuckle on anyone's part that matters. I just felt like sharing my early morning crazy with the forum.

2. Now you're talking..... We can build on this.

I'm all about ideas, unfortunately, many of them sound llike "hey can you double your expences on a product and offer me the same knife at the same cost?" Its such a rare thing to truely get a undisputed warranty (even against our own stupidity), and get a great product at an awesome price range. How could anyone reasonably feel that the company should actually do more? Are they not watching the world around us, and the horrific dis-service done to consumers daily by large corporations. Singularly an idea is great, but what does its impact have on the company mission? (little to none for the most part) And this isn't a singular occurance, this happens often, and rarely are they feasible and profitable thoughts IMO. I think you slightly underestimate the levels of intelligence in the masses, and you don't account for the number of rediculous internet borne "cunsumers/trolls" out there. Good customer service and sales numbers require that they approach all contact with reasonable tact, requiring that they learn the hard way who is a serious consumer, and who is blowing smoke. I am tired of it, and i only watch the show (what little they share with us).

The philosophy of the RAT company (my personal statement/interpretation) is pretty centered around simplicity and fuction. so much of what has been discussed in the past has NOTHING to do with that mission. Every RAt product I have used fits this mission spot on, and the number on the tang or the script on the blade never slowed em down one bit.

just my $.02. I would rather, RAT cutlery, make no more knives at all after the machete, and brute junglas, and keep things the way they are. :D
 
The complication was not the project itself. The complication was the people who failed to read the rules. It really was a simple process that turned into a CF b/c of people not reading the rules that were clearly stated on the website.
 
I understand where the O.P. is coming from, however I understand it from another perspective. Asking RAT to put more work in for the same money when they seem to be doing well with an OUTSTANDING product, isn't feasible. The Shotgunners are NOT going to do the CF again (tried, tested, and too much headache). Therefore, this is a ball we can pick up ourselves. In another thread I started yesterday, I proposed a brand for the Micarta Handles that we could pass around and Include numerical brands that would enable us to put our own numbers on as well. Something like that would probably be OK with the powers that be and any success/failure on our part would be ours to enjoy. This could be something other than a brand, but still allows for personalization. Since the concept seems to be wide spread, let us entertain other ideas and get something workable going.

I agree. Should we start another thread where members can put out their requests to see if someone has a certain numbered knife? For instance I would just post that I'm looking for #317 Izula and see if anyone speaks up.

Even in theory that wont work. The likelihood that people will have each other's numbers is low. I wouldn't want to send mine to someone only to have them send a random one back to me or better yet, nothing.
 
Yeah if something like that were to happen it would be a community thing that isn't directly linked to RAT Cutlery. I could see all kinds of future lawsuits if someone decides to be an idiot (and it was shown during the RP knife project that some people are indeed idiots).

And as stated, the likelihood of someone in the RP having your # on their knife is pretty slim. And besides it's just a number, I'm sorry but I'm more interested in knives.

No doubt the likelihood is low but people buy and sell knives on BF all the time. If someone wants to make a deal I don't see why it couldn't happen. I guess it really is more trouble than it's worth, just dreaming. :D Now I wonder what color #317 was.

Okay, imagine this possibility if you will then. You have #656 and someone is RP #656 and so you trade him for his #444 even though you are RP #345. Now you have #345 and SOMEONE ELSE with RP #345 pops up and wants it so you trade again and end up with number 42 which STILL isn't your number, ad infinitum and you're just juggling knives. It wouldn't work really. :(

yeah a lot could go wrong.
 
Here's an idea, RAT can either stop numbering the knives or you can just have your own number engraved on your knife, total cluster f@#$ averted!
 
Doing custom numbers would run extra cash even if they wanted to do it. Sounds like a CF to me.
