it may be worth emailing jerry/amy-o and asking if there okay with the images being posted here.

[EDIT] don't email them, as per this thread: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=665999

I'm waiting to hear the Boss weigh in on this. I can't believe this is listed. So sad. The integrity is one of the things I love/value about this forum and the HOGS, this bothers me, really bothers me.

Out of courtesy to Jerry. Assuming that this is legit (undetermined at this point) we can't put the genie back in the bottle, but we can do our part to respect Jerry's initial wishes for confidentiality.

I think Jerry realized how much of a PITA it is to make a folder vs. a fixed blade. The Swamp Folders were only out for a limited time. Never to be made again. Too much headache, IIRC.

Looks hollow-ground. Has Jerry ever made a hollow-ground knife???

Has Jerry ever made a hollow ground knife???? ...Um, I think that you need another cup of coffee! ;):D

Here's one:

Yes, the Off Duty and the Inactive Duty are a couple I can think of quickly.

As far as the original agreement with those who received them, I would think it still would be enforce until Jerry said different. I would also think that now since the Patent has been granted, it wouldn't be as big of a deal now to see actual pictures.

The design is interesting, it would of course be nice to handle it to see how well it works and how it feels in the hand.

Apparently, this dude's honor expires after approximately 4.5 years.

If the knife in those photos is the real Busse folder, then I believe Jerry has made the right decision to not produce it. That thing is flat-out ugly. The lock is very interesting, but the rest of the knife has some serious design problems.

It's a proto, Moonie. And that's why you produce a proto ... to winkle out all the bits that are wrong. Some subtle, some not-so-subtle.

Also the Porky Parkway's, the Key Lardo's, my Drunken Duty, and the Shiv Warden.

there is a difference between functional design and aesthetic design. if you have any functional design arguments against it, i'd be interested in hearing them. o

The grind lines on the pictured knife are quite uneven. My comments about the grind were not so much about the tip design, but about the overall "wavy" nature of the piece. It doesn't look up to the usual Busse standards of production, especially for such an important, custom, prototype piece.

My arguments against the functional design are numerous. First of all, as you have noted, the handle looks quite slippery and uncomfortable. Second, the grind looks extremely obtuse, and will make for piss-poor slicing. The grind doesn't even start until half way down the blade- and that thing looks crazy thick. The handle projects out over the blade near the lock, and will obviously get in the way when slicing. The handle bolts are oddly placed- it's difficult to tell how the thing is held together. Is it pinned like a SS Spyderco, or is that tiny little bolt and the pivot all that's holding the thing together? Doesn't look terribly robust to me in either event, unless the whole thing is milled from a solid piece of steel- in which case, the knife would be very, very heavy. The location of the blade pivot is way off center, meaning that when the blade is closed, the overall package will be very wide and un-pocket-friendly. Etc.

My assumption is that a limited number of proto folders were given or sold to very good customers/friends of Busse, for the purpose of real world testing. As protos, they would not necesarrily have the level of fit and finish we are used to today from the shop. There may have been differences among them, ie blade design, scales, maybe even the lock mechanism. Jerry likely asked them to use the knives hard and report back the results.

It should not be for sale.
Honor is something that some are willing to sell. These kinds of people are lower than whale crap in my opinion. If I was starving to death or needed a transplant I would still call Jerry and sell the knife back to him. I would NOT sell it on the open market like this. I wouldn't sell this soul-less pond scum the sweat from my B***s if he was dying of thirst:mad:
I'll take the infraction for this...it's worth it if I do.

Unless of course, this thing is a fake, or has been posted on Ebay at Jerry's request. There's no telling what's going on in his head. Machiavellian machinations may be at work. From my observations, they frequently are, in Busse land. Dude knows a thing or two about marketing.
