A sad day...

My sympathies, I'll drink one to the late feline.
My wifes cat got sick and quit eating, the vet ran some tests and said she had histoplasmosis (a fungal infection) after several weeks of e-tube feeding and drug treatment she was so sick we decided to put her to sleep. Since she wasn't going to live we quit giving her meds; within 24 hours she made a miraculous recovery. The vet said, "hhmmm, thats strange...but she will die if you don't treat her". We decided that we weren't going to listen to any advice the vet gave. Now a month later she is fatter than she has ever been. Luckily my wifes mother owns a horse ranch and has a running account at this particular University teaching vet clinic, we could never have afforded the bill for treatment that she probably didn't even need and was in fact making her deathly ill.
I am loosing all faith in modern medicine, veterinary and human.

My condolences on the lose of your friend.

I have a 17 year old cat, never sure what to expect when I get home from work anymore, but she's outlived 2 dog's and outlasted 2 wives.

Most loyal dog ;) (pet) I've ever owned, I'm never out of her site.

Sorry to hear about your cat. Had to have mine put down a couple of years ago...she'd been with me for 19 years. But keep the memories and they're still with you

Pets are a part of our families, and like it or not they pass on just like we all do. Enjoy the memories that you shared while your cat was with you. I had my last cat cremated and Charlie's urn sits next to my computer alongside his photo. I found 3 kittens behind my shed after the mother got taken by a coyote last Fall. All 3 bums are now living the high life in the house by night, playing outside all day *if* the weather is good. There is always a cat looking for a home....one will walk right into your life...and that will be your next one. You did everything you could it was'nt to be.

My sincere condolences. I have a cat that's going on 15 years old. He has just started to show signs of his age. A little weight loss and he doesn't move quite as well as he used to. This animal has been a great friend and has seen me through some very tough times over the last 14+ years. I know it's inevitable sooner or later I just can't stand to think about the day when that will happen. I am sure you are suffering terribly and I can only offer prayers and some smoke for you, your family, and your cat. R.I.P friend. -DT

condolences to your beloved friend. Keep in good spirits through this transition and maybe after awhile you could expand your love and friendship with another furry friend.

Not much I can say or add.I know that no matter what we all say you would still feel the loss. Time would make it less painfulle ... I know how you feel My pup died close to 14 years ago and i still cant bring my self to have another pup in my house. Im very sorry for your loss.

As some one who has lots of animals in my life I have felt this hurt before. It never gets easer, but my life has been made better for sharing it with the critters.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I really feel for ya bro, most of the time I prefer the company of animals to people. Someone once commented how cruel this world is that a dog should live such a short life and someone said that this was gods way of sparing us some of the heartache we would feel at their loss should we have their companionship even longer. I guess this also applies to cats. In other words if we feel this attached after 10-15 years how would we feel if we lost them after 50 years !!!:(

Sketch,

Truly sorry for your loss. Have been there many a time, and it never gets easier.

..someone said that this was gods way of sparing us some of the heartache we would feel at their loss should we have their companionship even longer.

Truly spoken. We miss them all forever.

My condolences on the lose of your friend.
Although, I was never a cat person I have lost good dogs as companions. Hope you and the family heal quickly.

Sorry for your loss, I've had my share of cats and dogs. My all time favorite was my gray tomcat named Smokey. Awsome cat, I had him for about 6 years, but he was a lot older than that. Before my family moved in 2000, he was just the "neighborhood bully" of the cats nearby. I befriended him and we took him with us. After a near death experience (bad fight with another male in our new neighborhood), I had him taken to the vet and he was patched up. I had to keep him locked in my bathroom for three weeks so he could heal properly without going outside. After that he was always with me. I even took him riding in the car a few times, he loved it. The pain in the ass even made me turn the sink on so he could drink "fresh" water. He refused to drink out of a bowl!!! Not to mention we always have a set of those christmas bells hanging on the front door handle, he would "ring" the bells with his paw to let us know that he needed to go outside. The longer we took, the louder and longer he rang the bells. Good cat, he died the month before I had to leave for college. Now I'm kind of glad he went out before I left. I wouldn't want him to lose his buddy so quickly, me gone and him stuck at the house by himself all of the sudden. Just remember the funny things your cat did and I'm sure it'll make you laugh no matter how long or recent it's been.

Sorry for your loss.
I remember when my first cat, Whiskey, died. She'd gone off alone (As cats often do) to die under a neighbours hedge. She was missing for 3 days before my neighbour found her.

Sorry for your loss bro. We lost a cat a few months back who had been with us for 12 years. It was very upsetting for us all.

Condolences to you. its always hard to lose a furry pal.
A buddy of mines dog recently passed on. Hes also still adjusting to the loss.

Sorry to hear this bro. Its really tough to loose a pet. Cats live for so long too. Damn.

Keep your head up though. Sounds like he had a good friend in you.

Sorry about your cat...I have a 20 year old cat. She sleeps next to the wood stove 23 out of 24 hours a day. In her younger years she was a great hunter and rarely came inside. I know the day will come...it will be hard.
