I wanted him to have the knife so we talked about it and we decided that I would send it to his Mom with instructions for her to give it to him if she felt it was appropriate.

That worked pretty good. A well spoken, very mature young man got a free knife & I was able to avoid the potential of any problems with sending a knife to a minor.

And again, I wasn't saying anything about skateboards, just from my standpoint on the maturity levels and ages that accompany them most. that's one of the things I've taken away from skateboarding.

I think you're right "response" might of been the wrong word, maybe partially influenced by this thread would be better, because you know he had to see this thread. I think it's because of the very end of his post where he states that he needs the parents interaction.

So do I, this thread has been a learning experience for me, a lot of the information in here will be implemented if I ever get around to doing a give away. :)
 
Thank you all for your responses and suggestions. This question arises periodicly in its various fprms throughout all the forums and the answers posted are as varied as the personalities of the members themselves. One common denominator has surfaced time and time again:
If you do decide you want to give or send a minor a knife make sure that you AND the recipient ARE legal to do so.
