A "Thank You Porch" GAW: Boats !! WINNER

It looks like a nice time fishing
Anytime the kids can get excitement from real life instead of a screen is a good day.
Gotcha entered.

Nice canoe, looks wide and stable.
Are you "in" on this? Looks like it :) I just wanna make sure.

Sure, I'm in.

The canoe is not the most "stable" as it is setup now. It is a white water canoe....and really, meant to be equipped with a double kneeling saddle. It has 3 inches of rocker, and a round belly. I got it with a small twisty waterway in mind. It is not fast, or great for long open water paddles.

Great thread, I love boats of all kinds!! Lovely boat and great build Pinemoon! Beautiful work and photo of the roof framing!
Great looking fishing boat OH!
CelloDan, beautiful build, great looking boat!
I really like that Reelfoot, Henry Beige!
Chuck4570, I would love to do some jet boating on the Yukon River. I have seen a lot of the Yukon R., but never boated on it. I have spent a lot of time jet boating on Alberta rivers.
Jack Black, I have walked along those canals wishing for a chance to putter along in one of those great narrow boats!
Below is my boat, getting fairly old, but still running well. I used to have 3 old style wood and canvas covered canoes. I sold a freighter as I could no longer carry it by myself and lost a very nice prospector in a forest fire, so now down to one 16', but, I do not have any pictures.

Greetings Porch Dwellers,
I've been meaning to offer up a GAW for a while now.
Since joining The Porch about a year and a half ago I've been the lucky recipient of two GAWs. This place has impressed me a lot. You are a great group of folks and I want to keep the "Porch Magic" going.

It's winter up here in Maine right now and I really miss my boat.
I bet I'm not alone.
To enter, say "I'm in" then post a pic of your boat, a boat you used to own, or a boat you'd like to own :)
And maybe there's a story related to it you'd like to share.

Here's mine:

I launched Moonrise in '09 after working on it for about 4 years. It's my home away from home in the summer. I bought a used pontoon boat and started building. People's reactions were mixed. They were either fascinated, or thought I'd lost my mind. There was very little middle ground! In fact, my wife said it would probably sink o_O

Anyway, she's proven seaworthy

This coming summer will mark her 11th season cruising the waters of Southern Maine on Sebago Lake.

Let's see (and hear) what other knife nuts have, have had, or want for watercrafts.

~Don

Hey Don! No picture because mine is under a pile of snow. Greetings from your neighbor in Bridgton!

If I win, please pass on to Vince Prester John Prester John
I don't own a boat, but we do usually rent a pontoon wherever we go camping. Here is a lake we go to quite frequently...

They also have a great buffalo enclosure to hike around...

And me in the boat...

Thank you, Sir
It was a large undertaking and taught me the power of perseverance.
Are you entering? Thanks

Hey, hello there
Bridgton is a great community!
Post a picture of the boat under the snow and I'll get you entered :)

Not an entry Don, Pinemoon Pinemoon - just sharing in the 200 anniversary of Maine Statehood. ;)

Nice craft Ray
We'll be back on the water someday, right?

If I win, please p
Ok Dennis
Will do on forwarding any winnings to Prester John. That makes two knife nuts who are forwarding to him :)

Hello from Gorham!
Hey there!
Looks like there are 4 Mainahs here on this GAW so far.
Ain't that sumthin wicked!?
o_Oo_O :p

I dig the GAWs, there's always new ideas! I live a bit far of the sea and even if i loved to perform the winter trainings aboard a 9m Kelt when younger, I never owned a boat, ship or whatever you name things on the water.
Except this one, I miss her a lot, the perfect Xmas gift when I was 9/10...

I'll stay out, even if that soddie is lovely!

That's a great old toy you have there
I think a boat is probably one of the most exciting toys a kid can get!
That one is pretty special. Not a lot of those around, I'm guessing. Thanks for sharing :)

Unfortunately this is not mine, mine once was hurricaned by my Grand'ma to be given to other children (who probbaly did not enjoy) while I was away, thinking I was too aged to play with toys...:( (this included norevs, solidos, french and GB dinkies, corgies...)
Indeed, the Jep Ruban Bleu was a wonderful toy!

I should have read your post more carefully. Thanks for clarifying.

I'm in (thanks for the opportunity)

Me & Dad out in the boat on Lake ontario (Chaumont Bay) years ago heading out for some bigtime smallie fishing at its best ... not many days up there when the water is like glass

Nice fishing boat
Yes, calm days are a gift sometimes. May you have many more :)
Gotcha entered.

Never owned much more than a canoe, but I've had a few of those. I do ride these boats every now and then:

And I spend a lot of time on ones like this:

or this:

Neat!
Some serious vessels there. I wonder at what point we cease to describe a watercraft as a boat and switch to the term vessel? At any rate, it looks like an interesting job.
Gotcha entered.

Great giveaway, but no, I am not entering.

This is not my boat, however, I have spent a lot of time in it.

Ok thanks for clarifying.

This has been fun to host, guys :)
Seeing boats large and small in all kinds of places helps during the long winter up here.
I'm going to draw the winner on Sunday evening after I get back from a trip where I'll be offline for a couple of days.
We have 20 entries so far. Good luck, knife nuts o_Oo_O :p:p

And the winner is....
Prester John!
And since he forwarded to JohnDF, it looks like JohnDF is getting the knife

Congratulations John!

It was pretty cool how the winner was selected
I assigned each entry a playing card selected randomly from the deck. There were 20 entries, so 20 cards were picked. I wrote the names of the entrants, then wrote the corresponding card next to each name. Shuffling 20 cards over and over, the 4 of diamonds was picked. What I find really interesting is what was on the card. The deck is a Route 66 theme with a little write-up about various spots along the way. The drawn card has "Texas." This is really cool because that was Prester John's card and he lives in Texas!! :p
Coincidence, or "Porch Magic?"

At any rate, this was great fun.
A big thank you to The Porch!
You have all enriched my knife obsession in many ways. I have learned a lot sice pulling up a chair
Thank you :)
