I found some milled 2x4 cedar I've had kicking around for awhile, and some tongue and groove kiln dried fir so it looks like I'll only be $30 out of pocket for fasteners.
got the plates all cleaned up, now that I know I can make em work now that I know how I'ma build it. Everything's laid out and it's time to start drilling holes. While using a hand drill on 12mm thick steel is something I'd think to describe as being unpleasant, it actually is. And now you know.
