A User That Is OK To Be Abused?

And when I say abuse I say it because of the people that borrow my knife. Not because I do it myself. I have had people cut a plastic sheet with my knife... the only thing was he was using the sidewalk as a cutting board which completely messed up my edge. Another incident is when they used the knife as a screwdriver... there was no edge to the tip after that as you can imagine. I know many of you will say to just not let them use my knife anymore but I actually am kind of curious to see how much each knife can take.

Best way to fix that is to say no. You have to respect your knife. Now you know what a knife will take, lesson learned. The only thing that is going to happen here is you get a nicer knife and all you do is borrow it for it to be destroyed. Makes no sense.

So buy yourself a knife and next time they ask just say no. Won't take them long to go buy their own and watch how quick they stop abusing knives.

OP, I completely understand what you are asking. I bought my Endura 4 for that exact reason, to abuse the shit out of it and see what the Spyderco hype train was about. The first 3 days I had it I chipped away at a deeply frosted freezer with it for a couple hours, took it to the junkyard and extracted 4 GM moonroof switches from plastic casings (because I forgot my Torx drivers at home), and then took it to my weekend job that has some of the toughest cardboard you've ever imagined (used to ship corrosive chemicals). It survived, but it now has blade play that isn't easily correctable.

I know a lot of people will scoff at this suggestion, but one of the toughest knives I've used in my weekend job is the CRKT Heiho. I know it's small, I know it's AUS8, I know it's a CRKT. I picked it up because it was designed to pierce tough media, and the price was so right and it has surpassed my expectations. Another knife I find myself recommending for hard use due to its high quality is the EnZo Birk. The lockup and rock solid construction on the Birk is as good as knives I've used that are triple the price. The style and size are certainly not for everyone, but if you want a hard-work knife an EnZO Birk in S30V is tough to beat if the size/shape work for you.

Get a boker pry mate. My buddy puts his through hell for weeks then brings it to me to sharpen. Tough knife. That n690bo take a nasty, aggressive low grit edge.

I was doing some light batoning to start a fire... And while I was doing it the lockback bar broke right where it makes a 90 deg. angle to lock the knife...

In that case, I agree with the others on a fixed blade, a small one, non stainless.
I beat on some of my folders too, but very carefully :)

Pics of the broken lock...

The little piece of metal you see on the knife handle is the broken part from the lock bar...

If you are going to use a folder like that, try out a Cold Steel Voyager. Probably still able to find some AUS8 versions out there, should hold up better than folders twice its cost.

Agree on the Rat knives being good. You might also check out the Utillitacs, the tough Buck folders (CSAR-T type) and certainly the Cold Steels.

It sounds to me like you're on the edge of breaking anything you buy anyway. I don't know that brand or model is going to help. Either get a small fixed blade or just be resigned to buying new knives. The plus is look at all the different knives you'll get to own over the years.

You opened a can of worms here buddy.

Use your knives the way you want to its your money. Just please be safe. Many opportunities to get injured when using knives in such a manner. More people here have done silly things with their knives than would like to admit it. That's where their opinions come from I'd wager.

So to the point everyone's suggestion is good and I agree. It's wood! hatchets and axes are meant to split that. A large fixed blade works too but not as well IMHO. If you insist on using a folder this way definitely the cold steel line. The tri-ad lock is no joke. You will however break that eventually if you baton with the lock engaged. Good luck.

I've been "abusing". Really? Abusing? Knives for 30 yrs. and have not broken one. Is it so hard to figure out how far is to far? Obviously it is here at knife use for the challenged! You idiots do know that a knife doesn't have any feelings? Right?

My cousin has a RAT-1. Ive seen him do some SUPER hard prying with it.
I've watched him throw it.
I've watched him stab stuff with it.
I've watched him use it as a screwdriver.

It's still fine.
You'll be hard pressed to break a RAT-1.

The Rat 1 is very easy to break, I have done it...Good news is cheap to replace should you want a new one.

As for the op, Benchmade Adamas might suit your needs.

I value all of my fingers, the right tool for the right job and it ain't no folder for that work. I really enjoy using different tools so I look forward to different jobs needing different tools to accomplish the tasks. Good excuse to purchase more sharp instruments too.

i'd agree with the enzo recommendation but suggest the borka. designed to be a folding bush knife. no idea how well they hold up tho'. hell while you're at it just get one from each category you wrote about-that way you get two new knives.:)

I'd probably get a Cold Steel voyager. They're affordable and the triad lock is incredibly strong.

then you should look into the lower end kershaws. speedsafe is common ,decent enough steels, and a wide variety of configurations. plus they also have the emerson collabs. for an alternate method of rapid deployment,or even their non-assisted flippers are pretty quick and fun. oh yeah-blade shapes, lotsa them. hell the only pocket knife my wife ever took from me was my little scallion (which she loves and is quite possesive of,much to my inner glee).
