Photos A Walk in Nature

Looking at the aerial view, that seems nice, too.

Of course where I am is just 125 miles from the mouth. The sheer size of the Mississippi always amazes me.
The Mississippi near St Cloud is not all that wide. Most places are not that deep either. That is unless a lot of snow fell in the winter and run-off was fast.
The further south one travels on the Mississippi it widens out

Poorly worded on my part, I guess. What I meant was, the Mississippi, at some 1200 miles from its mouth (as the crow flies), looks to be about the same size as the Potomac is at just 125 miles from its mouth (actual distance along the river bed).

Understand what you mean.

Nice to see you post Dan, been thinking of you :) Blimey, you really took the kitchen sink! :D Great pics, as always, and I hope you all had a wonderful time my friend :)

Hello Dan, so glad you can all get out together once more time. I'm taking notes on your gear. AND - I notice that Mother is working while healthy young daughters are sitting and chatting and checking out the cell phone. Nice to see that life is back to normal. ;) I love it that you can and do all get out together so often as a family. You are living life right my brother.

My getting out recently is limited to walking in the nature preserve or along the shore or a blustery sail on the bay.
Not a bad place to be.

Thank you Jack 😊

I remember in 2020 when we started going to the Rideau to escape from the covid curse someone telling us we had ONLY forgotten the kitchen sink 😄

Gracias Ray 😊
Nice stag on that puukko. Is that bark as well on the handle ?
Also, what model sailboat you sail ⛵️?

Yes, Diana is feeling so much better now than chemo is over thank God. Surgery in 10 days after which we hope and pray the worst will be over.

And as you say, good to see teenagers acting normal 😄 I’ve been told that my oldest has a“special friend “ that she met at summer camp. Seems like “special friends “ need to be texted every 5 min 😂

Hope to show you this very same area we camping today in person soon 😎

Thank you my friend 😊

Earlier today I went kayaking and exploring a bit.
Brought my fishing tackle but did not catch anything .

Instead I caught a couple of young deer by the water with my iphone 😎
Of course, by the time I pulled my BF 2020 knife out of my pocket in that wobbly kayak the deer were long gone … still I took a pic of it to mark the spot 😊

To answer your questions Dan ~

The knife handle includes - teak, birch bark, white tail antler on a Puronvarsi YP Bullnose 120mm blade. Maybe someday the two little ones you saw today will contribute sheds to someone's knife handle.

The sail boat is a CAPE DORY TYPHOON 18' from the late 60s.

Our own adventure will soon be upon us. Very eager I am. :)

Me too Dan- you and me both. Thank you.

The knife was made by my friend from Spain, José Herreros of Artesanía Herreros. He had quite a following here on BF among the Traditional group. We were his AMBASSADORS. Sadly he developed some health issues which prevented him from continuing his custom knife making. I see his web site is still going though and that you can still purchase knives. The last several times I contacted him it was his son who replied so I'm guessing that the son is now running the business.
In any case - this was a "sailor's" knife made for me using some old boat teak I had obtained in my days in the boat yards. It is in fact my BOAT KNIFE. You, most likely, will see it soon.

Here from my walk today ~ a FERN at the end of a fine season. Still lovely if a bit freckled.
